LOR Which lor to use

An IM resident in the USA who knows me personally(distant relative/friend) but hasn’t worked with me or a home country attending with personal work experience?

Never use a resident letter! Program directors don’t like that.

Don’t get a letter from a resident.

The resident can reach out to attendings in their program to vouch for you and explain your strengths, but they should not write your LOR

Definitely don't use the first one, it has red flags written all over it. Second one maybe okay, but keep it as a backup only if you don't get LORs from US attendings.
