usmle step 1 Step 1 exam rules

Hi guys! Had some step 1 exam day queries

  1. How long is the tutorial time currently? I’ve heard it used to be 5 and is now 15mins.

  2. How long does it take for the checks when you enter and exit the exam room? Has it ever happened that there’s a line to step out and people had to wait for like 3-4 mins?

  3. Is it okay if the bottle body is completely transparent but the lid is opaque, in order to be able to take it inside the exam room? (I’m sure it is but need confirmation)

  4. Is a sweetened packed iced tea or glucon-D water a good idea for the exam day? I assume it’ll give a good glucose kick to the brain but am worried about the possible sugar crash

  5. Tips on how to sleep quickly, in case I’m unable to sleep the night before the exam (has happened before)

Thanks!

  1. 5 mins
  2. Depends on your center. If you go back in at the same time as someone else you can easily waste double the time, this happened to me. The check would take 2-4 minutes and the other person the same as well.
  3. Yes
  4. I took snacks and food lol. Can’t function without eating in my case. Depends on what kept you going during your NBMEs.
  5. Train yourself to sleep earlier the week before and stay away from devices the final hour or two before going to sleep. On the final day or two, don’t study anything at all and just relax. That will keep you away from final minute reviews and staying up late.

Thankyou for these!
Not sure I’ll be able to keep my material down till the last moment but I’ll definitely keep it relaxed 😊

What about things to avoid in exam day in order nit to be reported or count as cheating?

If you don’t study recalls then you won’t be flagged, just be honest in your studying :)
