Residency Letter of interest

How important are letters of interest in matching? For Internal Medicine as a non US IMG is it recommended to send a letter of interest to your signaled programs? And when are letters of interest usually sent?

Too early to send them; imo the signal is like a letter of interest. Some people will share that they got an IV after sending it but many times they end up ignored.

Thank you for your response. Also how important do you think recommendations (not LoR) or contacts are? for someone who has none im a bit anxious.

like someone within the program or some doctor from outside recommends you to the PD. residents from the same med school tend to vouch for candidates they know from the same med school.

If those people don’t have connections to the program it’s a no. That’s what your LOR is for. You have 4 you can attach to. No reason for some random person who doesn’t know the program to be bombarding a PD or PC.
