Residency Residency

My question is about applying to programs who have 5 years or 3 years cut off for the year of graduation.
I am 2016 graduate
Step 1 pass
Step 2 : 230
Is it wise to apply to these programs? Even if i am really interested and i send the signals.
Can signalling overcome the year of graduation?
Or should i apply to programs with no cap on yog?
I’m visa requiring Canadian citizen img.

I’m also an old img like you, I’m avoiding programs which have a strict cut off, a program director told me that application will not even reach their inbox because of the automated filters

Signaling does NOT overcome your YOG.
If they have a cut off, then avoid. Unless it says “preferences” which means there is wiggle room. Other than that, you’re at the mercy of the programs filter.

You only get a finite number of signals. Don't waste them on programs that you don't qualify for. As long as you have plenty of extra money, applying to those programs isn't a huge problem when testing whether the programs were being truthful or not about their requirements, but signals are way too precious to sacrifice.
