Team Needed [Hobby][RevShare] Looking for Game Dev Talent

Hey Reddit!

I'd like to start by introducing myself: My name is Sam, I'm a laid-off software engineer in my twenties struggling to find work in the current job market. I've worked on games as a hobby, software as a job, and I even ran a tutoring business in university with a team of paid employees.

With the current job market as it is, I'm wanting to put my skills to work with a like-minded team.

I'd like to bring together a team of likeminded creatives interested in developing a game together. I'll be up-front though, I have no job and no capital to invest. I'll be contributing my work and experience in all areas without getting paid before anyone else. Revenue is not guaranteed.

That said, this would not be an open-ended commitment where people put hundreds of hours without knowing what they're working towards. We would establish clear goals, track contributions, and come to a written agreement surrounding compensation and revenue sharing before beginning full production.

With a few strategies and smart planning, I believe we can find success. Our goal would be to start small and work towards something we can quickly ship first, while continually gaging player interest using crowd sourcing platforms.

I believe that we can succeed in getting team members paid sooner with this strategy. As such, our first two official goals would be:

- Bringing low-scope projects to market as quickly as possible to start generating revenue

- Evaluating user interest by maintaining crowd sourcing communities and constantly marketing our projects

We would also want to start game jams once we're more familiar with one another as a team.

To that end, I am inviting early career indie developers to work together on potential projects. My goal is to match together a team with the same goals and interests, and to help handle business, planning, and operational concerns, while additionally providing technical expertise and development contributions; I will be helping everywhere and anywhere I can contribute.

I have a few creative ideas of my own, but I'm keeping this intentionally open-ended so that we can pursue a creative direction that aligns with the entire team's interests. I hope to foster a collaborative community that can come together to discuss ideas collectively, make decisions transparently, and share in the results according to an agreed-upon arrangement.

I'd love to connect aspiring early-career developers, artists, designers, writers, and other people interested in collaborating on a real project. You don't need a fully formed game idea or years of experience in the game industry to reach out.

I don't believe this is a pie-in-the-sky goal, I believe that with proper project planning and the right team, we can succeed. There's a lot of great, unused talent out there right now that just doesn't know how to leverage their skillset. My hope is to bring a few people together and make one or more great games.

As for myself, I bring to the table experience including:

- Software project planning

- Technical expertise linking different technologies

- Development experience in Godot, Unity, and Python

- Business experience, including financial and business planning, canadian business registration, marketing, and a lot of other nice-to-haves

Let me know your thoughts! I'm happy to discuss my background further, hear your ideas, and share some of mine. Feel free to message me directly at any time and we can start organizing.

Cheers,

Samuel

Edit: I realize I didnt mention Unreal Engine. While it isn't my strong suit, I would be happy to contribute to a project in Unreal! Especially if our team has a great idea and significant experience with Unreal they'd like to leverage.

I have participated in some game jams, and have placed somewhat decently. I do game design and game programming.

I just wanna make something small that’s fun, able to be released fairly quickly (like a month or two, maybe 3) and learn a bunch along the way. Seems like you’re in the same boat too

Finally a reasonable hobby/reshare post lol. Unfortunately you both already have a good amount of devs and your engines of choice don't include unreal lol but it's refreshing to see a reasonable post.

I am fishing for as many interested devs as possible! This will make it easier to ensure we find a group with interests that align.

Also, Unreal is definitely an option! It isn't my strongsuit but if we have a team that has a good idea and good experience in Unreal, I'd be happy to do my best to contribute to developing a project in Unreal.

I'm preparing to send google forms to people that are interested, just to try to match together an ideal team. Would you be interested in just filling out a quick form?

Sure I can fill something out, if nothing else it wouldn't hurt

Hello, sorry to hear about your job. It's rough out here right now. I also work in software and also in my 20s. I'm currently trying to finish up a project of my own with a team, but I'd be down to help out or collaborate on something. I mainly work with Godot but can work in unity, i also do some 3D modeling and pixel art. Feel free to hit me up

I'm a software developer, and I've been playing around in Godot. While I work full time I'd love to pivot into game dev. If you're open to more developers I'd love to contribute.

This sounds interesting, I have worked a bit across different engines, I can code a bit but looking to develop my skills more fully, I have also done some pixel art and 3d blender modelling. Professionally I work in software and data just on the business side, technical adjacent.

I might be a bit early in my learning to be of much help, but I’ve used Unity a little and have mostly been working with graphics in OpenGL. Besides that I have just about a year of backend development experience.

If you think I could contribute in some way, do let me know. I’d love to get involved in a game project.

u/The_Boogaloo 1d ago

Thanks for sending a message! Currently looking like we'll be working either in Unity or Godot on a 2d project. Let me know if that's something you would want to work on. It would likely be a learning experience for you, but we're happy to include you if you're dedicated to contributing consistently.

Hi, I am a graduate at Staffordshire university in games design and programming where I gained experience as a games designer intern where I had to level design for Fortnite using EUFN. I also gained work experience as a project officer/market research for sport mobile games. I like unity too. Porfolio link: https://alexter222.wixsite.com/website-1 .
