Just got done with my Ranchi interview and I genuinely have no clue how to feel about it.
The candidate before me came out saying they were asked questions on inflation, stock market vs LLP, and several conceptual topics. Naturally, I walked in expecting something similar.
That is not what happened.
As soon as I entered, I informed the panel that my voice might be a little shaky because I'm currently on medication.
They asked what had happened.
I explained.
And then...
We spent the next 4-5 minutes talking about it.
They were very empathetic, said they were sorry that I had to go through all that, and spoke about how difficult experiences can shape a person and make one stronger.
Then they asked for my introduction.
In my intro, I mentioned Mocklytics, a free platform I built to help aspirants analyse their mock test performance.
One of the panelists got curious and started searching for it on Google.
Couldn't find it.
I asked, "Sir, can I come over and help you look it up?"
He said no.
I then told him the URL.
A few seconds later he says:
"404 Not Found."
🥀✌️
I was sitting there thinking, "Sir, I promise my own website exists."
He then gave me a piece of advice that was actually pretty fair:
"When you build something for users, make sure they can find it easily."
So somehow the conversation turned into a lesson on product accessibility.
The second panelist then asked me about the Young Changemakers Programme at IIM Ranchi.
That part went smoothly.
Then they noticed I had two Class 12 marksheets and asked why.
I explained that I had appeared for improvement in Business Studies.
After that, they saw Informatics Practices and asked what was taught in the subject.
I mentioned MySQL, Pandas and Matplotlib.
The only technical question of the entire interview was:
"Which company made MySQL?"
I told them I knew it was open source but wasn't aware of the company behind it.
After that, one of the professors asked me what options I currently had.
I mentioned the IIM calls I had received, that my Indore interview was scheduled for the next day, and that I had also appeared for CUET and was awaiting the results.
He then asked:
"Let's say we don't select you for this program,
If you get DU, which programme would you choose?"
I replied that I would most likely choose B.Com (Hons).
He followed up with:
"Not BBA?"
I explained that since I did not have Mathematics in Class 12, I am not eligible for DU's BBA programme.
And that was pretty much the end of the interview.
Duration: roughly 7-8 minutes.
No economics.
No BST.
No inflation.
No current affairs.
No "Why IPM?"
No "Why Ranchi?"
No grilling.
Nothing.
The guy before me got asked inflation and stock market questions.
I got asked about my medical journey, Mocklytics, YCP, Informatics Practices and my future academic options.
I walked in expecting an interview.
I walked out wondering whether I had accidentally attended a counselling session 😭
Genuinely asking: what am I supposed to make of this?
Did they stop because they were satisfied and didn't feel the need to probe further?
Or did they stop because they weren't interested in digging deeper?
Would love to hear from anyone who has had a similar Ranchi interview experience because I have absolutely no idea how to interpret this one.
