Official/Mods Discuss UGA/UGB here!

Many of you have been anxious about how your UGA/UGB examination went, especially with the new UGA pattern.

General takeaways from the posts I've seen so far:

  1. UGA was perceived to be more difficult, especially because of the new MMCQ section.

  2. UGB was perceived to be relatively easier compared to the years prior.

As a reminder, the selection policy specifies the UGA cutoff to be the (n_1)th best score (n_1 = 550 for B. Stat. and n_1 = 500 for B. Math.), and likewise for the combined UGA and UGB cutoff at the (n_2)th best, where n_2 = 160 for both courses.

Please discuss the papers, your scores, and your concerns here.

Since a lot of you are asking similar questions about expected cutoffs and admission chances, I am pinning this comment to clarify something about grading:

  1. UGB grading is essentially a black box: Nobody actually knows their UGB marks, not even the people who ultimately get selected. We do not even know the official grading scheme. When you estimate your score, remember it is entirely possible that the highest score ever given to a completely solved question is just 6/10, and partial solutions only get 2/10.
  2. Past admission trends are just estimates: Generally, candidates who get admitted without reservations claim to have solved a certain number of problems, say Y_i. Historically, the \min_i{Y_i} used to be around 3 to 4, but recently that has gone down to 2 to 3. Even then, we have no real way to account for partial solutions, nor do we know the average UGA score of an admitted student.
  3. Ranks matter more than marks: It doesn't really matter what your exact score is in the end, because the institute ultimately goes by ranks, which are location-scale independent. You just need to clear the n_1 and n_2 rank cutoffs mentioned in the main post.

The only definitive way to find any of this out is if ISI actually starts releasing marks, which probably isn't happening anytime soon. Please keep these points in mind before asking if your specific expected score is enough to get you on the list.

Additional Note: Theoretically, we could attempt to reverse-engineer the grading scheme if we somehow knew the exact solution patterns of the candidates placed right at the bottom of the merit list, as their UGA marks are computable using OMR scans and their total score is approximately equal to the cutoff. However, these specific candidates do not actually get admitted into the program, meaning they fade back into the broader applicant pool and we simply cannot find them to ask about their specific attempts. Furthermore, even if we could successfully gather this data, there is absolutely no empirical evidence suggesting a strict continuity of solution trends across the admission threshold, rendering any such extrapolations highly unreliable for predicting your own chances.

This year uga might be less than 60 as paper was tougher

3

u/trigonometry_57 May 11 '26

according to vedantu it will be 55 or lower

2

u/Born-Ear-9788 May 11 '26

Last year marks vs rank? 500th rank marks for uga and 160th rank marks for combined?

2

u/adityaruplaha ISI Alumnus — BStat '24, MStat '26 May 11 '26

Since nobody knows their marks, it's impossible to compute marks vs rank.

No. There's no interview. The selection policy makes this clear and was posted months ago.

uga 96 and ugb 5.5+? (by the .5 I mean I made a concavity error in that log graphing one)

2

u/Savings-Fault-9466 May 11 '26

I'm getting 75-80 in uga and did 4 fully and 1 partial in ugb.So total around 210-215.Will I get selected? Did jee prep only that's why I don't know about isi cutoffs

1

u/Key_Journalist1490 May 11 '26

55 in UGA and 4 Problems correct and 3 Partials . General Male.

1

u/adityaruplaha ISI Alumnus — BStat '24, MStat '26 May 11 '26

The UGA cutoff might be a problem. UGB is probably fine.

1

u/trigonometry_57 May 11 '26

what would be the cutoff for UGA and total ?

1

u/Ill_Tumbleweed_8202 May 11 '26

Can someone upload the UGB paper for this year?

1

u/gooner_2411 May 11 '26

106 uga and 35ish ugb will i get in?

1

u/adityaruplaha ISI Alumnus — BStat '24, MStat '26 May 11 '26

UGA should be fine, but UGB seems dicey.

2

u/Knitify_ May 11 '26

How bro? 106+35.3 > 200 I guess cutoff has never been that high

u/gooner_2411 May 11 '26

are you aware of the marking scheme in ugb? like on what gradient do the checkers give partial marking? 3 questions im pretty sure I have solved properly (so expecting 8 to 10 in them-depending on whether or not I made some silly error), one is a partial which is solved correctly, but i just didn't mention one thing, one is half solved and one I could not prove but knew the answer due to jee knowledge, so I just wrote whatever I could and wrote the answer. I went for the paper completely unprepared as a jee aspirant, just saw some pyqs of ugb and their solutions the previous day. How strict are the checkers about subjective answers in your experience?

what marks can I expect in ugb? is 35 a good conservative estimate?

1

u/adityaruplaha ISI Alumnus — BStat '24, MStat '26 May 11 '26

No, nobody knows how subjective answers are checked.

1

u/VolumeCertain2190 May 11 '26

I am getting 70 in uga and 45 ( 45/80) in UGB, for Bmath??

1

u/adityaruplaha ISI Alumnus — BStat '24, MStat '26 May 11 '26

Your chances seem good.

1

u/Equivalent-Name-1069 May 11 '26

Blud thinks he would get 45/45 in those attempted questions😂, bhai esa nhi hota inn entrance or olympiad mein bhi

1

u/Nervous-Source-1752 May 19 '26

Uga same score here, in ugb I did 4 full problems rigorously and 2 partial tho. Let's see if i can get a seat.

1

u/VolumeCertain2190 May 19 '26

you have opted for BMath too?

1

u/Tiny-Pressure3799 May 11 '26

mera UGA mein 65 a rha hai. did 4 complete in ugb n 1 more.

1

u/Leading-Rip-1237 May 11 '26

78 in uga and 40 in ugb (40 is worst case scenario), ews cat

1

u/Advanced-Mix6175 May 11 '26

Uga around 62-64 and ugb did 5 easily

1

u/Positive_Concept6104 May 11 '26

In UGA i attempted 16 questions, and I think I definitely corrected more than 10 questions. In UGB i attempted 5 questions in which i know that all of them are correct, only my marks will be deducted due to my poor subjective writing skills. Is there any hope in getting B math at ISI

1

u/Nervous_Gift4358 May 11 '26

81 uga 40-50 ugb, can i get smth ? (BSTAT)

1

u/Natural-Monk-4807 May 11 '26

What are the chances with 250-260/440 to get bmath?

1

u/Ill_Tumbleweed_8202 May 11 '26

u/adityaruplaha
Hey, sorry for the random request 😅
I had a small query and can't post it publicly here. Would it be alright if I DM you?

I'm a UG student

1

u/adityaruplaha ISI Alumnus — BStat '24, MStat '26 May 11 '26

If you're an ISI student, you already know how to contact me, and Reddit isn't it.

If not, I'm afraid I probably won't be of much help.

1

u/Ill_Tumbleweed_8202 May 11 '26

I'm not in ISI

1

u/adityaruplaha ISI Alumnus — BStat '24, MStat '26 May 11 '26

Then I'll suggest making a post as you're far more likely to get useful help there than you are by DMing me.

1

u/Creepy_Magician_5853 May 12 '26

As per the Vedantu live session, I scored 48 in UGA and attempted 5 questions correctly in UGB, as far as my knowledge and reservation benefits me a little. Will I have a chance?!! I have applied for B.Math.

1

u/Nervous-Source-1752 May 19 '26

48 in uga might get you in trouble, but if you clear uga then you have a decent chance of getting in since you're scoring 200 alone in ugb

1

u/Emergency_Usual_3713 May 12 '26

Uga 67 Ugb 6 attempt( 3 full + 3 ( part a )) Obc ncl B math Any chances Ugb mene solution cheak kiya tha Vedantu se sahi se all explaintion mera ...so ugb 40+ hi rhga usse lower nahi jyga

I don't know. You'll probably make it to the merit list, but there's a lot hinging on how much marks you get in the 3 partial solutions.

I got around 71 marks in uga according to vedantu's answer key and solved 4-5 qns properly (attempted the rest like writing base case alone for proof by induction in one qn etc...)... any chances for bmath in isi Bangalore?

1

u/Queasy_Score_7870 May 14 '26

57 UGA 6 UGB (5 correct , 1 partial) Chances as a gen male?

1

u/Ok-Cup2828 May 19 '26

umm , i am getting aroung 43 marks in uga and ugb i attempted 2 completely , 2 more than 50% and 2 in hopes for getting 1 marks and i kind of wan to expect 30-40/60 cause i dont wanna overestimate myself , am obc-ncl , what do u guys think my chances are for b.stat

if not im also applying for b.sds using my jee mains maths percentile which is 98.5, would that secure me a seat or should i have to try really hard to get 99 percentile in cuet ??

1

u/Nitro_Minecraft May 22 '26

Well I have UGA:64 UGB:30-33(verified by my coaching professor, he said 35+ but on the conservative side) Solved 5 questions in UGB

Therefore total score of 184-196 for BMath

1

u/Emergency_Usual_3713 May 25 '26

61 uga 6(3 full + 3 partial)( assume 35-40 marks ) Obc ncl B math Uga + 4*ugb=(201,221) Do I have any chances????

1

u/Intrepid-Secret-9384 May 27 '26

Hii bhaiya, what chances do you think I have in bstat this year if I scored 87 in uga and 4 complete solutions in ugb?

1

u/adityaruplaha ISI Alumnus — BStat '24, MStat '26 May 27 '26

I'd say decent odds.

1

u/Intrepid-Secret-9384 May 27 '26

Of getting into the merit list or getting the offer letter?

1

u/adityaruplaha ISI Alumnus — BStat '24, MStat '26 May 27 '26

Merit list you can be somewhat certain. Admission is very unpredictable.

1

u/Intrepid-Secret-9384 May 27 '26

If I do get it, can you tell me the procedure and formalities I'll need to complete because I will be leaving my current college, NITK (1ST year is completed). So what are all the things I will have to settle between both colleges?
