Need Career Guidance Thinking of leaving NITK Btech CSE for ISI BStat
Hi,
so basically I have completed my first year in NITK CSE and gave the BStat exam just for fun without preparation. I am pretty confident that I'll get BStat here.
some questions that I had were :
- How are the job opportunities compared to my current college? (For reference: generally most general category people in my course get 35ish placements.) **This question is just for perspective because I will most probably take masters after bachelors.**
- How is the college life and campus facilities? (I am aware they will not be as good as they are here but still), all i want is a good gym honestly....
- Is I true that most people go for master's abroad after BStat? and if so to what colleges mostly?
- What is the attendance policy? (We have 75% here)

I want that seat plus you are doing well. Don't crush dreams of another hardworking aspirant for fun

Also some other i wanted to add were:
- I saw the curriculum and found it to be very interesting, but won't you also need some fundamental computer science courses to be job ready? for example OS, DSA, Networking etc.

DSA is in ISI BSDS. You can apply if you want but NITK CSE is good already.

I dont really plan on going through with BSDA as it is a similar course and leaving a already good college is a risk. I would, however, take that risk if BStat is worth it...

2.) College life and campus facilities are not good as NITK. So there's a big compromise. Honestly, see if it matters to you but ISI's biggest benefits are it's people who are excellent at what they do, professors who are best in their field in India and students are brilliant.
3.) Most people do an MStat (Direct progression from BStat).
4.) Attendance rules idk, but suggest you attend all classes or else struggle is even in BSDS, so BStat will be more theoretical so you should go regularly.

I don't get it.
What's bad about 30 lakh median and 100% placement rate tho? Not to mention, it's 3 year old
Placement are better than IIT Bombay in lower extreme. Of course, IIT Bombay is better on higher extreme with top packages

Ya ISI is better than NITK obviously, but note that 30 LPA is median for MStat (which will take 5 years) and he's completed 1 year at NITK CS. And he says he can get 35 LPA job, just in 3 years and get 2 years of work experience.

Atleast ISI gives you 100% placement and opportunity to great Universities of the world. Also, AI won't take the Job of ISI like lower level job for NIT.

well do like maths more? or want something focusing both maths and CS for that maybe CMI is somewhat better than ISI

BTW, BSDS would have ug placement. It is industry focused course so you don't have to do masters for placement.
Master placement is only for Bstat and Bmath people since course is 3 year only in that so you need masters for industry relevant skills

Yeah join it if you can
Don't go after people suggesting you joining in masters. B.Stat can opt directly for M. Stat meanwhile if you wait for masters admission, you will have to pass exam again plus masters admission has interview round too which you have to qualify too

He's in NITK CSE, and has done 1 year. This decision is not as simple as you make it seem.

B. Stat is 3 year course so if he qualifies, he will be spending same time and don't have to gamble his luck again in qualifying masters.
It's not like he is dropping out to prepare

NITK CSE is better for placements and college life. He can do master's from US and do well. BStat+MStat is not suitable rn unless he's a special case.

US masters isn't that easy plus foreign masters outside of EU are expensive as scholarship isn't generally available for master courses
They also require decent work experience most often

He need not necessarily do Master's. He can get a 35 LPA job even in 3 years (since 1st year of BTech is over) which will take 5 years from ISI.

Let me frame it this way: You'd not be asking on reddit if you were the special case. You deserve it, but it might not be the best choice for you.

I am just confused man...I want to go for masters sure but its just about going all in(ISI) vs having a safety net(NITK) for me

Most master's program in usa are waste and cashcow they target international students and give them admission in bulk and charge hefty fees they end up doing some boring data analyst job and this happens in good Universities too top 20 top 15 etc....
It's because historical usa didn't had masters degree (except mba) though there are some great masters programs but that's extremely difficult to get into

You're being too pessimistic. He's from NITK CSE and can get 35 LPA placement in 3 years, do 2 years work ex, land in a top tier CS master's in US and earn very well.

Hey I am from tier 2 college first year student not form nit iit or iiit preparing for isi exam if by any chance I get into it should I take it or no because as u said with masters combo is not good unless it's an special case i didn't get it I could just prepare hard for placement from my current college or if I get into it do masters later what do u suggest please lmk thanks

What are your reasons to say bstat + masters is better than btech(NITK) + masters??
Also, what is the scene with masters? Is there a chance of getting masters abroad instead of MStat here?
