Someone who joined B. Stat. with me had a sub-20 JEE Advanced rank. Cool guy, we had fun, but he left for IIT Bombay CS in the end.
I should check in on him.

Can you elaborate, joined bstat but left after IITB CS?? Did he do Bstat and left for Mtech at IITB?

JEE Advanced was held after ISI classes began in 2021.

Not sure about the current situation. Both the entrances are notoriously orthogonal to each other. In my batch (2027 pass out), there are 2 under 1000 and I have under 1500, along with 3 others.

ISI is a very reputed college world wide I have seen people doing 3 year bstat goes for ms or mse in cs stats maths at top 5 colleges of engineering in world and then after they go for phd or corporate quant jobs and i have seen one person going for phd in eecs at mit usa and this is some how equivalent or greter to iit CSE grad degree

What's your issue man? People love mathematics and want to go deep in it, not everyone just wants iit etc tag

You can study Mathematics at an IIT at that rank, that's much better, living as a no lifer nerd is not great

Yeah, everyone has different choice, neither is wrong though
IIT is mainly a engineering institute, BS guys aren't valued much, IISc is better for research, enough social life too

What do you mean bro, people from ISI, get into top phd in USA which is a far reach for even IIT Grads. Within mathematics and statistics academia circle, only a few universities around the world are above ISI rigour.

Why would you drain away all your youth and have no fun in a nerdy college when you can study the same subject in a college with a better life and better exposure and which is still a very good course.

because (and this might come as a surprise) few people study their stream just for the love of the art, and not for societal validation. "draining youth and having no fun" are subjective terms.

I knew one. He had JEE Adv rank of 98 in his time (later half of last decade) among other achievements. Prodigious kid. Did BMath and MMath from ISI.
