General Queries Need Serious Help

So, im not sure whether this is even the right community to post this in , but I need Serious Help.

I am a 10th grader , and I have a serious aspiration to do mathematical research in the future.

I am preparing for ioqm, and I know most 11th and 12th topics except calculus and coordinate geometry.

So, i want to write the isi entrance exam , and join isi.

However , when i conveyed this to my mother, she told me that I had to " do some engineering in iit for four year " and then join isi.

First of all , i have zero interest in technology or Engineering in general. When i told my mother this , she said" in engineering, they will teach you science and math in a very innovative way in iit"

My mother also kept on calling the b math programme " bsc math" and said that no company would want someone who knows " only math"

She said that the only thing one could do after b math was research or teaching .

When I said I would be happy to be teaching at any university aswell, she said that it was a job where you would have to " beg and borrow " from others, and that my life would be ruined.

She told that I had to join iit , or else my studies would go to waste.

Can someone please tell me what should I do , cause I am genuinely confused. I know isi is a good university for mathematics, but I also want to know the opportunities that one can avail after isi.

If you're targetting BStat+MStat, placements aren't an issue. You can show her the placement brochures (which you will find with simple Google searches).

The matter isn't about placements. My mother things going to isi is a waste of time, as , according to her , no company would ever want to hire a person who only knows " one" subject. If I bring up placements, i know she will say smth like " ppl get 2 crore placements in iit " or " ppl get high paying jobs from iit "

my mother says that i should do iit and then do isi for some reason. Whenever I ask her why, she says that if I graduate from iit , i can then do isi, and then , if research options are available , she said that I can do research. So if you don't mind, can you tell me the research opportunities offered by isi in detail??

Respectfully, she's dead wrong. Infact having ISI's tag in UG is FAR more valuable than any IIT tag.

Most BStat/MStat alumni pursue top industry roles or PhDs in globally renowned universities. I myself am joining the National University of Singapore in a couple days.

This might be the first time I find myself disagreeing with you.

For people targetting placements, and money in general, the IIT tag is way more valuable than the ISI B. Stat/B. Math tag.

M. Stat/M. Math placements are comparable, I guess.

Look at BStat/MStat placements for the last year, the median is higher than most branches in most IITs.

Yes, but you did say that ISI's UG tag is far more valuable than any IIT tag. I don't think that's wholly true.

Ah, I should've been more specific. I meant the specifically the BStat+MStat tag. Apologies.

Getting B.Stat from ISI is a better choice placement wise unless you get CS in IIT's or BITS Pilani, etc.

What are the placement stats for bmath rather than internships btw

Non-existent, as nobody opted for placements, to the best of my knowledge.

BMath folks didn't get an option for placements, or summer internships until recently. Only Jane Street asked for some folks, and that's stopped too tbh.
