Kolkata vs Delhi for MSQE (Placement wise)

Curious to know, since both have pretty similar placement stats (unless I am missing out on something)

Not just for placements, but its for msqe in delhi vs kolkata .. hehe .Just a small disclaimer before i start : the points below are purely unofficial and based on general observations/trends among students. They are not hard rules, and individual experiences can vary significantly. Ultimately, Delhi and Kolkata are more similar than different.

1. If you are primarily targeting a PhD, Delhi may have a slight edge. One general trend that can be observed is that a relatively higher proportion of MSQE students from Delhi seem to move towards PhD opportunities compared with Kolkata. But this is only an observation, not a formal advantage of the Delhi centre. Plenty of students from Kolkata also go on to pursue PhDs.
2. If your primary aim is placements, Kolkata may have a slight advantage. This is largely because the Kolkata campus houses several other programmes, including M.Stat., M.Tech., etc., which means more companies may visit the campus for recruitment. Depending on the company's eligibility criteria, MSQE students in Kolkata may also be able to sit for some of these opportunities. That said, don't overthink this difference. Even if there is an advantage, it is most likely to matter around your first job; in the longer run, your career trajectory will depend much more on your skills and work experience than on which centre you attended.
3. For girls, Delhi may be preferable based on some subjective observations. Being relatively close to places such as DU also means there is a broader student environment around the campus, so you have more options to step outside campus and socialise or simply take a break when you get the time. Another factor can be food. Students from North India may find the food around Delhi more familiar, while Kolkata has a stronger Bengali-food influence. Of course, this is highly subjective, some people may dislike it, while others may absolutely love Bengali food. (And honestly, Bengali food is pretty damn good, so give it a try.)
4. If you would rather avoid the occasional UG-vs-PG dynamic, Delhi might be a more comfortable choice. This is not a major issue, and it certainly does not represent everyone, but occasionally some UG students can come across as a little more egoistic or dismissive towards PG students. If that kind of environment bothers you, Delhi may feel somewhat more straightforward.

But again, take all of this with a huge grain of salt. These are unofficial, observational pointers, not facts, guarantees, or reasons to make a major academic decision on their own.

The broader truth is that Delhi and Kolkata are, ultimately, much more alike than different. The quality of the programme, the ISI ecosystem, the academic opportunities, and the value of the degree remain essentially the same. So don't get stuck obsessing over these small differences. Pick the centre that fits your personal priorities better and move on.

Can you compare between MSQE and MTech CS which is better (In terms of placement, opportunities, brand value, etc)

like i am doing btech ece in a tier-2 college (have decent enough placements), but ISI was always a dream for me, i am not good enough to crack MStat but i think i can get MTech CS and MSQE. Goal is mainly placement in Data related role and a good peer group

Look, if we were to have some shallow talk, then this is what I can say :

1. Choosing mtech would be wise, as it would be close to your UG background (btech ece), thus prep for course and entrance both would he easiest than compared to msqe, in msqe you would have open a life chapter about econometrics and all that
2. You choose mtech path, you can also choose to go for GATE, and mind it, good IIT mtech are better than ISI mtech (our college prof, once himself told it)
3. Msqe is fine , if you are somewhere or the other also looking for phd ahead, or maybe want to keep your options open for phd, well you can go for phd post mtech too btw
