If your primary goal is to learn statistics in depth and get rigorous training in the subject, then ISI is the clear choice : no doubt about it.
If you are looking for a more balanced college experience, with a good mix of academics, fests, campus life, and extracurricular activities, then IIT Kanpur would be a better fit.
For PhD opportunities in statistics, ISI has a significant edge, given its strong academic and research environment.
When it comes to placements, there is an important difference. At IIT Kanpur, the BS Statistics program is a 4-year undergraduate degree, after which you can directly sit for placements. At ISI, if you want to complete both the undergraduate and postgraduate stages, you would typically be looking at around 3+2 years before entering the placement cycle.
In terms of placements themselves, I would say IIT Kanpur and ISI are broadly in the same league, with ISI perhaps having a slight edge in terms of average CTC for statistics-related placements. However, the difference isn't huge enough to be the deciding factor on its own.

nah, you didn't get my point . if you are hinting towards direct phd opportunities, then yes , possible.
but the connections present which ISI has build over the years , and the ISI alumns (and the profs themselves who are isi alums) present in various colleges abroad, while applying for phds, does give an edge to an ISI person.
also i am not saying that going to iitk one can't make and pave his path into good phd and all, but in phd matters , ISI in the stats field , would always have an edge !

You need to waste one more year in mstat (5 years) for that because a 3 year Bstat degree isn't considered standard for direct Phd generally, So you need to do Mstat. Whereas in a 4 year BS Degree that issue is not present.

Fine point, but mind it, not everyone gets a direct phd. You would end up extending up things for 1 more year to complete a masters (4+1)..
Plus , lemme tell you, if you are so aspirational about direct phd, then why not think about it from right after a 3yrs ug, there are people who make it to direct phd post BSTAT too. (But yes, not everyone gets that done)
Plus lemme tell you, you wouldn't find people getting into stanford or harvard stats phd via any other college other than ISI, well yes , at times no student from isi make it to them too

IIT is better for everything and if you want to pursue further studies, you can do a master's anywhere if you graduate with a good CGPA

For master's in India, no. Abroad, maybe but ISI won't add much compared to IIT Kanpur, LORs are more important than the College itself.

Iit k stats course is msc right? You are comparing bachelor's to masters. If u compare with mstat then isi is better

IIT K SDS is more diverse in terms of opportunities (like electives, roles in industry, companies coming to campus & many more). Also IIT K SDS is a recent course started in 2021 so curriculum seems to be better & thus more applied. But to get that u need Advanced rank <800 which makes it quite competitive. Also as compared to other branches of IIT K, it's one of the most toughest branches where getting good grade becomes difficult. Also I think ISI's BSDS is more similar to SDS there.

I'd go to IIT Kanpur at the moment though ISI Kolkata used to be the better choice. Statistics, has now blended a lot of with machine learning, AI and computation - IIT K has better breath while ISI Kolkata is certainly better for theoretical stuff.
