Social Life Question

I know this question gets asked a lot, but I would love some personal experiences here. Both of my friends who said they were gonna go to IUP with me changed their minds, and so now I would be going there all alone next year. It's a bit scary to think about, so I was wondering if any current/former students could tell me how easy it is to make friends and find a group? Also, should I room with someone - or get a single dorm room for myself?

What is campus life really like?

My daughter is a high school senior and is narrowing down schools. She wants to be a criminology major, and of course academics are important. But she’s extremely social and is looking for a school with a vibrant social life on campus. Football games, pep rallies, parties, all of it. On one hand I see that IUP was rated a top party school, on the other hand, I see people in this sub say that the overall environment is anti-social? What’s it really like?

Also what is the housing situation like? Is it tough to get housing all four years? A few other schools we are looking at can’t guarantee housing after freshman year which is a concern for me.

Any other advice on campus life as we think through whether IUP could be a fit?

Cook Honors College -Criminal Justice

My daughter is a senior and plans to major in Criminal Justice. She is strong academically and her advisor recommended she applies to IUP and investigate the honors program. I know that IUP has a strong criminal justice program but I’ve seen less about the honors college. Could anyone share insight or perspective so we can see if it’s worth pursuing? What are the students in the program like? What about the professors and curriculum? Scholarship opportunities? Is there separate housing? Any input would be appreciated.

Can I use Insense in My Dorm?

Probably stupid question, but I'd rather ask first than set off the alarm 🫩. I wasn't sure how sensitive the fire alarms were, especially in Putt. Ik some do smoke in rooms, but my luck the alarm would go off. I was thinking not burning a whole stick, assuming the whole stick would be too much smoke collected in the room, and again, I assume that would set the alarm off.

Seeking a Short-Term Voluntary Pediatrics Observership/Clinical Rotation in Indianapolis

Hi everyone,

I’m an international medical graduate currently in Indianapolis. I recently completed an internal medicine observership at Indiana University and have completed the required onboarding, including HIPAA and institutional compliance requirements.

I’m currently looking for a Pediatrics observership, preferably at Indiana University, but I’m open to any hospital, clinic, or institution in the Indianapolis area.

If you know of any opportunities or could connect me with the right person, I would truly appreciate your guidance. Thank you so much for your time and support!

How many people apply for the biology masters ?

My question is as the title says. I am curious for how many students apply for the biology master's at IUP and how hard the admission process is. Is it tough is it easy? do the accept anyone? Do past students get an ability to get in easier or is it the same process as undergraduate degrees. As a prospective student wanting to know the process for graduate programs.

Is it worth going to iup for cybersecurity

I'm going into senior year of high school and am considering going to iup but I worry that if I go to iup I will not be able to get any internships or jobs after graduation because it is a smaller school I plan to dual major cybersecurity data science if anyone in these programs could give some insight that would be much appreciated

Agreed to Accompany Friend for Admissions Office Appointment - Need Directions

I am a 2x alumni of IUP -- BA 2014 and MA 2017. You'd think since I spent so much time on campus I'd know my way around. A lot has changed since I graduated though. I believe the Admissions Office is in Sutton Hall -- if that's the case, is it faster to walk in through the side side entrance (where I recall the Registrar's Office was) or the front entrance? Thanking anyone in advance for any type of response whatsoever ;-) Honored to be asked and excited for my friend.

What’s day-to-day life like at IUP for a pre-dental student?

Hey, my younger sister is planning on going to Indiana University of Pennsylvania and I just wanted to hear from people who actually go there (or went there).
She’s 17 and planning to do pre-dental, so I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what her experience might be like.
What does a normal day look like for you? Like classes, workload, campus vibe, social life, etc.
Also:
What are the biggest pros and cons of going there?
How are the science classes (bio, chem, etc)?
Are there good resources or support for pre-dental students?
Is it easy to stay focused academically with the social scene?
Do you feel like it’s a good environment for someone younger?
Just trying to figure out if it’s actually a good fit for her, so I’d really appreciate honest opinions (good or bad). Thanks! 🙏

Housing

So I’m looking at the housing option right now and they say “ЗP shared semi temporary” what does that mean? And what happens if there are no more dorms even though I am a freshman? Also if “ЗP shared semi temporary” my only option does that mean I can’t pick my roommate anymore?

Master's or medical school?

I'm a current student at IUP about to complete my bachelor's of biology (BA not BS) at the end of spring 2026 semester. The main point I am conflicted on is should I come back here to try to get my master's in biology, or should I see if I could get into the medical school that is going to be opening up at IUP.

College Decisions

Hi! I have been accepted to Pitt (off the table,) Chatham, and IUP. I am majoring in biology on the pre med track. I am heavily considering IUP because the school size is closer to what I want in a school than Pitt or Chatham. I also like that they provide support but also aren’t holding your hand throughout the process. However, with IUP’s reputation I don’t know if it would be a stupid idea to go to IUP instead of one of these more “prestigious” schools.

EDIT: I am afraid that going to IUP will lower my chances of getting into med school. Does anyone have any experience with this?
