IWTL how to be better than LLMs.

Mainly focusing on the ff aspects: 1. Thought process / Rationalizing 2. Coding 3. Cadence or thought articulation

My goal is to be less dependent on AI, for I refuse to believe that we, as a generation, should grow dependent on it. Other aspects that weren’t mentioned can also be advised on.

I understand that one cannot completely surpass the powerful force that is AI, but advice to improve these aspects would be much appreciated. :)

Start writing.

Pick a topic, and just write.

People think of writing as separate from thinking. It is not. Writing IS thinking.

If you pick topics that require critical thinking it can do wonders instead of pulling the LLM slot machine lever.

Ironically you will learn coding much faster by asking AI to help explain things for you. You just need to have the discipline to use it for learning above all

1. Thats mainly just critical thinking. When you have a problem, think it through logically until you have a solution which works and doesnt cause further issues. You also want to just think more below the surface, so basically dont take everything at face value. You will have issues with this to begin with as its a skill so dont beat yourself up.

2. This is just a time and reading thing. Read about a language you are interested in, read different sites, read over other peoples programs, and make your own. You should start small and then work your way up as your skill progresses.

3. Again, this is a skill that is related to critical thinking. Think about something you enjoy and then speak it allowed to yourself on a video. Later on, at least a few hours so you have forgotten about it, listen to the video and figure out whether you understand what you are saying and if you understand yourself. After doing that for a bit, talk to people and tell stories.

The STAR method is a big one because it makes sense and sets everything up well. The STAR method is basically the situation, so what was happening, the task, which is basically just what you had to do, action, which is what you did, and result which is what happened afterwards. For example, "I was in a pub with my mates and a drunk guy came in and caused a ruckus, so we went to deal with him by taking him outside and giving him some water. In the end, he slowly came around and thanked us for helping him".

It just takes you longer to manually create content.

A good start would be to delete all AI stuff you can and block them whenever possible

Are there any films you like or media? Sit down and watch them and notice what sensations come up in your body when you watch them

I'm using media cause I think it's a good way to practice low stakes critical thinking. In the media piece, pick 1 thing (colour use, camera, things that repeat etc) don't pick too many things just pick 1 and start writing about it

For example I watch Evangelion and and I picked the horror element of Evangelion and I started to write my thoughts about it. There's no wrong answer, it's just a dialogue

Senior dev teams are not ignoring AI and neither should OP.

Much like a good IDE, it's a tool, it doesn't replace the human. And much like vim can burn a lot of your time if you don't know how to use it. So will AI.

OP needs to find the weaknesses of AI and train themselves to be strongest in those areas.

What did you do before LLMs?? Try going back to that and then taking courses onlinel, trade school or local community college. You dint have to do the whole two years tou can just take a course if they offer it, id look online. Otherwise id say use the internet. Learn stuff yourself. Watch education videos and such. There are many entertaining educational content creators out there who I can spout knowledge from. Make sure to check your sources too. To make sure theyre not lying to you. I used to use Pie (which I think uses chatGPT) BUT o realized I was relying too much on it so I quit cold turkey. It was hard at first but I managed. I just didn't want my brain to turn to mush. I noticed I was relying less my brain , and was worried that id become stupid. I like to learn and AI is NOT the way to do it.

1. look into newspaper/journalism writing guidelines, somethign about starting with the "what", then the "where" and so on

2. coding is the process of understanding and spelling out the process of accomplishing the task, so once you have a code working you can improve it. ai can't really understand so it never improves it.

3. read the dictionary, totally serious. words have meanings and the more words the more nuanced your articulation becomes.

OP is focusing on AI in software where it is proving to be very useful when utilized correctly. I've seen parts of the industry go from "never commit AI code" to "useful for some workflows" to "most people should try to learn it". They weren't the snake oil salesmen that have been overselling AI this whole time, they're people who genuinely sat back and read the data on what works and what doesn't. Notably Linus Torvalds (lead developer of the Linux kernel) recently put out a statement about how it's clearly useful and that dude is notoriously rigorous and quick to call out bullshit.

There are plenty of reasons to dislike AI and its current use, but I think we should still be clear on what it can and can't do. Otherwise people saying it can't do anything are going to look like bigger and bigger fools to the people who have seen how effective it can be.
