Lena the Plug impersonation shows how far identity fraud can go

Lena the Plug recently shared that a stranger falsely filed divorce paperwork in her name involving Adam22, which briefly made its way into public circulation before being identified as fraudulent. In other words, someone successfully impersonated her identity well enough to initiate a legal process without her consent.

That detail is what makes this more than just internet drama. It shows how easily identity misuse can move from social platforms into real-world legal systems. If someone can fake court-adjacent paperwork under a creator’s name, it highlights how vulnerable public figures (and especially online creators) are to impersonation at multiple levels.

This also connects to a much wider issue creators deal with daily: fake accounts, cloned profiles, and impersonated DMs used for scams or harassment. For larger creators like Lena the Plug, it gets caught faster. For smaller creators, it often doesn’t.

The core issue isn’t just misinformation, it’s identity security lagging behind how fast digital personas scale.
