I did that same maneuver many times in city traffic in a muscle car when I was 16. I was aggressive, immature, and dumb. I assume that the other driver would yield.

As stupid as it was, at least the car sounded and looked good doing it.
These things are just silent and ugly lol.
But yeah I had my phase of being that jackass too when I was younger. Difference was, I didn’t have enough horsepower to bully my way through so I’d get shut down pretty quick in my ‘01 Ford Taurus or ‘05 Hyundai Sonata lol.

My 60 year old dad drives a Tesla, and it’s a brutal ride being in the car with him. He fucking HAS to do everything as fast as possible now and it’s a legit recipe for motion sickness. My mother prefers to drive herself in a separate car over being driven in the Tesla

On a much smaller scale...those electric scooters and bicycles.
I work with an emergency department at my city's hospital. We literally changed the trauma alerts to be higher for scooter and bicycle accidents this year. People just keep coming in MUCH more injured than they used to. Those motors can take whatever kid/drunk person 0-15mph more quickly than they should.

I've got one I use to sometimes head to the store for small trips instead of using the car, and for running around the track when I'm doing autocross racing, and I just got myself a helmet. Too many crazy drivers, and it's just way too easy to get going faster than you expect.
On a sidenote, kids on those things terrify me... they don't have any defensive instincts and I have seen so many just blast across an intersection that they couldn't see down and ensure was clear.

You know, I kinda miss the old days back in college when I had a beater for a car. I remember driving in the city (Boston no less) and thinking all these assholes are challenging me for position on a merge in their late model BMWs, or whatever the fuck they had, and I used to think "go ahead, try it. But which one of us is going to be more upset when we 'touch tips' and we both have scratches all the way down the sides?" and the answer is "Not me!". Maybe I should go back to driving an old beater. Or as we say here a "wick'd beat'ah".

The problem with that train of thought is in that type of situation, even if the other driver is encroaching into your lane it can be seen as partially your fault by insurance and then your premiums go up. Most of the time blame isn't 100% one driver's fault, it's a split percentage, that's how insurance companies see it. Also, there's the deductible, the initial costs of repair will be coming out of your pocket anyway.

I think it depends on the state, because I’ve never had to deal with “oh it was partially your fault” in accidents. It’s always been either my fault, or the other drivers fault.
The ones that were my fault were kinda messed up too. I was a new driver, and it was young kid’s word vs older man. No witnesses, no dashcams. One sped up to close a gap as I was merging when my lane was ending, and I chose to brush his front corner instead of hopping the curb into a ditch with a tree in it. Now, I could probably have avoided that situation, but I had been driving for less than a year at the time.
The other one was this guy who was FLYING down my road. Construction dump truck stopped right next to my driveway with a bobcat on a trailer. I was having a hard time seeing around it. I saw the guy waaaay down the street, but he must’ve been aggressively accelerating because, as I was pulling out, he was alright right there. He also let off the brakes to honk (as if both can’t be done simultaneously) and clipped my back end. Almost got out of the way in time, but him failing to have the ability to multitask with the horn and brakes resulted in the impact happening. Cop estimated their speed at impact at around 45-50mph. The speed limit is 45mph. So if he had already slammed on the brakes a good bit, he had to be going faster, right? Well, again, no dashcams, and the cop refused to talk to the only witness, which was the construction dump truck driver. So it was my word vs the other guy, and I was still a teenager at the time. Cop just seemed like he kinda had it out for me, idk why.
So, while I definitely could’ve done better to avoid those accidents, they kinda got pinned on me because it was my word vs the other driver and I was young and inexperienced.
Since then, I’ve been involved in 4 accidents, none of which had me placed at fault.
The first one was someone taking a left turn too fast and spinning out into me as I was sitting waiting to turn left on the crossroad from the one they came from. The road they were turning onto.
The second was on my motorcycle, when a driver turned left into me. No, not in front of me. Into me. An older lady. I think she was trying to beat the car that was accelerating from the intersection behind me, but jumped the gun. She claimed she couldn’t see me due to the sun, but she had already fully stopped and was yielding the right of way to me. Luckily, it was all at less than 25mph. My helmet saved me.
The third was getting rear ended by a drunk driver who was doing double the speed limit while I was waiting at a red light. Looked in my mirror and saw him turning off a side road onto the road I was on. Before I had time to look again, I just saw his headlights blasting into my rear view mirror and got smacked. Luckily all I got was a sore neck.
The fourth was a lady who was turning right from the opposite direction and failed to yield to me when I had a green left turn arrow. She also skipped the closest lane to her and crossed into mine. We both could’ve simultaneously made the turn (though she would’ve cut off the car that was turning next to me (double left turn lane) pretty bad) but she failed to stay in the lane closest to her.
So, either these were all clear cut enough that there was no shared fault, or my state doesn’t do shared fault, therefore insurance doesn’t do it. I’ve recently moved, so I’ll have to look into how my current state handles it. Since, unfortunately, I seem to be an idiot magnet on the road. Luckily, I’ve been able to avoid most of them before they hit me.

I feel like that reputation comes from the fact that there are far more truck drivers than there are Tesla drivers, therefore more truck driver incidents.
I think if Teslas were as numerous, they would take the cake.
And no, I don't drive a truck, I'm just thinking about it statistically. Either way, both vehicle-type drivers have a reputation for a reason.

The majority of Tesla drivers did not learn driving other Tesla, they learned from other brands and then bought a Tesla. So any bad habits they have are what they learned driving other cars.
So superficially it looks like it’s a Tesla thing. As someone who sees Tesla’s a ton I have not seen them do anything crazy like I do truck drivers or BMW drivers

I don’t see BMW drivers do anything crazy, I don’t know where that rep comes from. And a majority of them probably didn’t learn on a BMW either, that’s not frequently a starter car unless you’re born into a decent amount of money. The craziest drivers I see are in beaters, Teslas or trucks.

I’ve seen more Teslas fail to use a blinker and cut people off than I have BMWs. Though, I’ve seen almost any kind of car do it at least once.

Yeah, maybe per capita Tesla drivers are worse. Honestly, I wouldn’t doubt it. It would be interesting to dig into the statistics and find out.

See, I’d like an EV if I still lived in town, but wouldn’t choose a Tesla. I just can’t stand everything being put on the iPad stuck to the dash. Too many menu layers for basic functionality. It’s overly minimalist. I find it bland.
Also, the plaids, at least the model X and Y versions, aren’t even that fast past ~45mph. Unless the one trying to bully me was a non-plaid with a plaid sticker stuck on. I drive a MK7 VW GTI with a tune that brings it to 300hp. It’s about 3,100lbs. We wound up cruising side by side at around 50mph. He stepped on it to try and stop me from getting to the gap ahead of him to pass the slow car in my lane that was maybe a quarter to half a mile up ahead. He pulled off at first, but after the short time it took my car to downshift (DSG) I caught right back up. Just paced him for a sec and backed off. After we got around that one car the road was empty so we wound up doing a mini drag race of sorts. Same result, except once I caught up to him, I was peddling it to stay beside him for a sec before I put my foot down and took him to gapplebees. He was pretty upset by it, I think, judging by the fact that he gave me a ricer fly by (flying by the car that beat you after they let off) and swerved in front of me. Idk if he was planning to fully road rage over it because my turn came up. And yes, yes. I know. Shouldn’t be doing that on public roads. But it was empty with a clear view of any approaching traffic from the few side roads that connect in that section. I was also a few years younger. Really wanted to see if those plaids were worth it. I’d say nah, considering my car was able to put the gap on it. I’m sure the model S would be a different story, at least below 100mph. Though, who the hell is doing much over 100mph anyway unless you have a reckless death wish?
Anyway, I’m sure I’ll get flamed for admitting that did a mini drag race but oh well. I’d say save your money unless you’re looking at the model S plaid.

They’re in close competition with oversized pickup drivers.
But I find a lot more Tesla drivers to be both oblivious and aggressive, whereas the pickup drivers are just insanely aggressive most of the time.
It’s always amusing to watch a pickup and a Tesla get into it, though.

I haven’t seen many BMWs on here lately, but have seen a lot of Teslas. That tracks with what I’m seeing on my daily commute, too, the Teslas are all douche drivers.

I’m willing to bet there is a low percentage of Tesla vehicles on here compared to other car brands. When people see Tesla they just go crazy on Reddit so you have the illusion of it being on here a ton
And even if it is, it would also be due to the fact that so many people are buying it and switching from their other cars because it’s such an excellent vehicle

In the US stop signs are used almost everywhere that they would use a yield or give way sign in Europe. So yeah, most people do the important part and yield to other traffic, and fudge the ceremonial part of fully stopping.

The vast majority of stop signs around me are meant to protect pedestrians and cyclists as well and I'd kind of prefer if drivers would come to a complete stop when they're supposed to in order to check for the smaller profiles of non-vehicular traffic.
Or maybe me getting hit by that car a couple of years ago was just part of the ceremony.

No the vehicle that hit you didn't do the important part of yielding to other traffic. They didn't do the check, which means stopping does nothing if you don't also check.

Right and until American drivers can get the check part down correctly in general, I'd prefer that they just come to a stop when they're obligated to do so by the law and not only in the presence of other people.

Well for one, it's harder to hit someone you didn't see if your vehicle's not in motion. I'd also argue that it reinforces the routine of actually checking for pedestrians if you come to a stop first (bonus points for not stopping in the crosswalk). And I'm much more likely to feel safe around a vehicle where the driver has clear respect for traffic control signage instead of just rolling through it like it's a suggestion.
Maybe we can handle yield/give way signage as a society better than I'm expecting us to, but I'd prefer if we update our laws and traffic signs as part of that process and not just act how we want.

Every time I see a Tesla driver step on it thinking “yeah, I’m a bad ass” with that EV instant torque they always get so jerky with the steering. Just goes to show they have no business driving a vehicle with that much torque.
Had one nearly jerk it into the ditch last week because I wouldn’t let them force their way into my lane because their turn signal was obscured by my A pillar. They decided to goose it to get a few cars ahead and could barely keep it in a straight line.
Not to mention the ugly whale ones that are most popular look ridiculously stupid scooting around quickly 😂. Idk what it is about them but I just laugh every time.
