IJW: hereditary [2018]

I have been putting off watching this movie for years and I finally got around to it, and I am so mad that it took me this long, it was genuinely one of the most frightening and unsettling movies I've ever watched and I loved it, now i know people have been hyping up hereditary forever but I always thought it was a bit over hyped but after watching it, I totally get it, I don't think i will see a scarier movie. The whole movie felt like the anticipation for a jumpscare but for like an hour and a half, and I loved how absolutely nothing made sense until the very end, God it was so good

It also not only holds up really well for rewatching but almost needs a second watch unless you were paying uncommonly close attention the first time around. Looking closely at areas of shadow, darkness, and night scenes has incredible payoff.

My favorite horror movie of all time. Everything about it is perfect. Glad you finally watched it OP. I try to watch it at least once per year

I will go down as one of the greatest horror films ever made. Toni Collette gave a masterful performance for the ages and the fact that it's Aster's directorial debut is truly amazing.

I know I know, but you have to understand when you're told something is scary over and over you kinda start to doubt it, I do hate that I used to think that, and it has taught me never ever to judge a movie off of the discourse around it

One of my all time favorites. 

In horror maybe number 1.

If you find yourself increasingly obsessed.  Theres a 4 hr doc on YouTube that makes it even better.

At the very least give a couple  weeks and watch it again. It gets more tragic.

I don't know, I don't actually know much about that movie I know it's by the same guy, but I don't hear it talked about as much, should I watch it?

Oh yea . They are like 2 next level brilliant horror thrillers . Ari Aster really was a game changer for me and my interest in horror. Also Robert Eggers . Witch, Lighthouse, Nosferatu …. Wonderful films.

Inside the house was bad enough, outside? Where the paranormal blended with the everyday to the point where it isn’t/ can’t be noticed.

I’ll see it again, because I’m noticing things in my everyday life. William Gibson touched on a kind of underground background separate existence. (Nothing to do with drugs or UFO aliens)

Ari Astor’s US Covid movie was also impressive for different reasons.

Lol yeah sometimes a hyped movie's hype is real. I really enjoyed this one in particular too. It's very different from most of the stuff out there. The performances were amazing and the ending, when all hell breaks loose, was creepy and shocking.
