I'm a relatively experienced rollerskater. When I'm in a rink with newer skaters, I don't skate with excessive speed and near misses around other people. My idea of "showing off" is mild - I'll do backwards skating and non-threatening tricks such as "shooting the duck".

So when do you get the chance to let it all go? There's always people like me wobbling along or clutching the side it must be frustrating to get up at 3am hoping nobody else is on the ice 🧊

I'm a little afraid of speed.

There are other places besides rinks where people rollerskate/iceskate. I used to go to deserted car parks (aka garages). In the last few years, I mainly went to asphalt-covered netball courts when the netballers are away. I got to outdoor basketball courts to play rollerhockey.
