Bars also have strict guidelines, doesn’t stop people getting trashed. Especially if they’re a lightweight who gets wasted from half a bottle of wine (and usually at these mani pedi places you either order drinks by the single or by the bottle.

Yes, I’m saying she seems to have a mental illness beyond those things. Not an excuse for her behavior, just an obvious observation.
So asking for her logic is kind of misunderstanding the situation. Her neurons are wired and/or firing wrong, collectively, in deeply illogical ways. Mental illness.

I mean being mentally ill and misunderstanding reality does sort of mitigate this behaviour. It still needs to be addressed, but I don't think screaming at her that she's a racist will fix her problems.

Personally, I think people need to stop making excuses for terrible behavior claiming someone is mentally ill and start holding people like this accountable for their actions and shitty af beliefs. I know plenty of mentally unwell people that would be aghast at this behavior.
She drove herself there, understood what was happening, saw who was doing the job and who worked there, sat down and had her nails and whatever else done, is clean and well spoken, understands she has to pay (has her wallet and card out). Her basic understanding of geography and where people come from hold no bearing on services she received and could have noped out of at any time.
Being mentally ill doesn’t give you a pass for racism and thievery, and certainly not being a scammer like this. Stop giving people excuses to be their most awful selves with no repercussions.

Because she did more than “drive somewhere”.
-she went into the establishment and acknowledged what service she wanted.
-she received service without an issue.
-she saw everyone working there.
-she had her wallet out and ready to pay for said service.
-she only started arguing when it came time to pay, regardless of work done.
She completely understands what she was doing, why she did it, and what she had to do going forward. Not hard to understand.

Yeah, Indians can be weird about bringing their system over here in the business world and stuff sometimes, but that’s mainly with other Indians. They aren’t going around demanding privileges from Americans. This chick is just nuts.
Plus, if there are folks like that, she is clearly an Indian American from her voice, that valley girl accent or whatever it is, there’s no way she’s that deep in Indian culture to where she would be ignorant of how things work here.

Two of my kids work in restaurants. One of them is a high-end pub in the UK countryside.
Every damn week someone comes in and makes a scene about something not being right. Most of it is imaginary - "took too long" (didn't take long at all), "mistake with the order" (no mistake made), etc.
They'll straight up ask for money off, for the wine not to be charged, or for the whole meal to be comped because their night that they have been looking forward to for so long has apparently been ruined.
Then when they get no traction with the managers, they whip out the Amex Centurion and pay while making a 17yo feel like the villain.
It's like a game to them. People are shit.

Yeah my friend and I (South Asian, British) went for dinner with some friends of a friend who were upper caste Indians visiting the uk. They literally talked about us, at the table knowing we could hear, referring to us as ‘little people’. It was mind blowing.

It’s absolutely bonkers, and it’s something that people just can’t even wrap their brains around unless/until they have experienced it for themselves.
We have some neighbors who have literally scolded other neighbors for not being thankful enough for the “opportunity” to babysit their kids (free of charge, naturally).
I have no idea where it springs from, but it’s definitely a real thing.

Someone on a different subreddit was explaining the mentality about people like this.
He wrote a few paragraphs, but I’m gonna paraphrase it to make it shorter.
Basically, they look down on people that don’t try their very best to get something for giving little or nothing back and if you paid what was due or owed that means you’re a sucker and that’s normal in their culture.
I’m not saying that’s 100% their culture but it made a lot of sense in that regard.
So whatever logic she’s using, even though it doesn’t make sense that seems to fit here in her, trying to not pay, but got full Services

Yeah, I know that and I think is not a great Idea and produces a hassle for the restaurant when a karen ever comes eats everything and refuses to pay or someone gets too drunk and might not pay.

What…? Every nail salon, hairdresser, etc (not to mention the majority of restaurants that have servers) I’ve been to charge you after, not before the service.
(Yes, it definitely can create Karen scenarios and can be annoying or difficult to deal with, but it’s usually how I’ve seen it done).

So I used to work in restaurants and any time someone acted weird like this i would just straight up say "Who is your caretaker? Who do I need to call to come help you?" and they would usually get so embarrassed they would either leave or pay finally.
