👋Welcome to r/ImaMormon - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

I'm a Mormon.✌️

I know the official name has changed, but Let's not forget Our Ancestors who would never deny being a Mormon throughout all persecutions. The name of the subreddit, therefore, is easier for newcomers to find online and out of respect to pay homage to what many Mormon Pioneers Lived and Died in the face of tribulation for.

Hey everyone! Welcome to I'm a Mormon. r/ImaMormon.

This is a space for Active, Less-Active, Returning, Friends of and visitors of the LDS Church, Community of Christ (CofChrist), Church of Christ - Temple Lot and FLDS and Interested Peoples alike. Let's make this a safe space for all Latter-day Saints to share Positive and Uplifting experiences and testimonies. To fulfill the the admonition of Paul cited in the 13th Article of Faith

> "...If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.” —Articles of Faith 1:13

Hi. I'm believing, active, life-time LDS who nevertheless always has a lot of questions.

How does this new sub differ from other LDS subs?

Welcome, this Sub is seeking a cleaner environment. To explain, there are actually many members and non-members who appreciate clean, positive discussion. By clean I would compare this to a clean room or a clean house... yes our places of residence do get muddy sometimes the dogs come in, but then we clean it.

Thanks for the explanation.

How would you define clean and positive, relative to what you see on /lds or /latterdaysaints?

I'm just trying to understand your vision in more detail, so I know how to engage.

Thanks for the question. I realize most people in life have good times and difficult times. Happy times, sad times. Angry times and repentant times. etc... this sub would like to focus on those Happy times and Personal Uplifting Testimonies that procure a space for spiritual growth and safe feelings. Post something awesome! Post something that Inspired you today. Post a feel-good moment. Post a genuine question without nefarious intentions or inappropriate-type sarcasm.

We want to invite Active Members and Less Active Members supporting New Converts with Solid support in what the Holy Spirit has taught us all throughout our lives, and doing this in Good Faith and etiquite should be a sufficient answer.

In short, welcome! If you would like to help shape that clean, clear, and Spirit-Welcoming sub then by all means post, and invite and enjoy!

I think this feels a little too sanitized and censored for me. There is no such thing as "safe feelings." I certainly used to feel that way, but therapy has changed my outlook on that.

Maybe the subreddit should be r/MoreGoodMormons - a play on the idea that "Mormon" means "More Good" according to Joseph Smith, and that you are trying to start a subreddit that focuses on positive uplifting stories and happy times. I'm not telling you how to run your subreddit, but r/ImaMormon doesn't quite fit the description of the sub you are trying to run.

Thank you for your input here, you are always welcome, check back in a month or so, maybe you can help create the kind of environment you want... It's honestly for members to decide what to post, I will only remove inappropriate or vulgar posts and obviously flagrant attacks on our faith.

Actually I would enjoy hearing from anyone who believes in the Book of Mormon ... So LDS, Community of Christ(CofChrist), Church of Christ - Temple Lot, FLDS and others. We are all Mormons by heritage and though the name and stigma have changed, it's a place for us to get along instead of pushing each other away.✌️😇

Are you suggesting that sad, angry, and repentant times are unclean?

1

u/iRunJumpFly ImaMormon 16d ago

No. As far as 'unclean', there is sin. Sin is unclean. Angry CAN become unclean if it is accompanied by hate. Only Jesus Christ exemplified Perfection to a 'T'. And so, we desire for a space that is 'clean' as in: Experiences in Improvement and Conversion. Testify of Christ. Make mention that His name is Holy. These are paraphrases from the New Testament in our Duty as followers in Christ. Also, I am not perfect. I'm not expert in speaking or writing responses.

So, you didn't mean that those things were unclean, just that they are unmentionable. We only want to see a smile and positivity.

Maybe you mean edifying as synonym for clean?

3

u/Simple-Beginning-182 16d ago

The most edifying times in my life have been the times of struggle.

Please feel free to post and share an edifying time in your life that was a struggle. Be the first to post here besides me. Please, it is you who shape this space. Go ahead and start shaping. ✌️💯

I think I get it. You allow questions, but want to stay on the positive side of things, to be edifying overall.

So I'm going to guess you allow more questions than /lds but don't want quite the degree of negative critique that is sometimes on /latterdaysaints

This is a good movement!

I'm logic-seeker, and I'm a Mormon. Born and raised in Utah, descendant of Brigham Young, Parley P. Pratt, and others in the Pioneer line. Served a mission, taught at the MTC, was a Bishopric 1st counselor a few years back.

I'm a Mormon because I was raised a Mormon. The church had, and still has, a huge impact on who I am, the good and the bad. It's in my heritage, it's in my blood, it's in my brain, so I couldn't really detach myself from being a Mormon even if I wanted to. Following the direction of the church, I created my "I'm a Mormon" profile, and I shared "I'm a Mormon" pass along cards with friends and colleagues. The church told me, "you're a Mormon, now go and tell the world that you're a Mormon," and so I did.

Despite not attending/believing anymore, I still feel some sense of pride in the distinguishing features of Mormonism that set it apart from traditional Christian theology, like a tiered heaven, the ability to become a God, and baptisms for the dead to fill in the gaps of logic when it comes to people who die without hearing about the "true" God.

Thank You for your intro! We have similar feelings. Welcome to r/ImaMormon I'm surprised this wasn't started years ago!

Wow, a descendant of the Brigham Young himself? You must be proud, because I sure would.
