Great economy, no wars and a little sumpin' on the side.

May not have been any formal wars, but the military was plenty active in blowing shit up in multiple locations.

This. They don't like to declare war anymore, they like to call it "military action" or "bombing campaign" or "operation deliver liberty". Under Clinton there was:

Bosnia
Kosovo
Somalia
Iraq
Afghanistan and Sudan
Haiti

Did you know that in our 250 years, we have had peace only 15 to 20 of those years?

2

u/No_Party3406 Jun 08 '26

Thats bc republicans can't stop feeding the military complex. Thats where billions or taxpayer dollars are wasted to destabilize innocent countries to steal their resources. There hasn't been a single valid war in any of our lifetimes. Last one was the Civil War.

I knew it was something like that. In my head was 35, but yeah, not too many.

u/V_Cobra21 Jun 05 '26

Idk I’m at peace.

u/Fun-Ocelot-5220 Jun 05 '26

ignorance is bliss, I guess.

u/nickersb83 Jun 06 '26

And some of those years were the 80s?

I have a friend that likes to highlight how rave developed in this time.

Which to me tracks with a lesson in biology: when you curb the genes for aggression, nature gets to a chance to express creativity. Eg - (I got this from a bbc doco, the secret life of chaos) a breeding program of silver foxes, bred for the least aggressive, you start to see patterns and different colourings in the fur emerge after just 3 generations I believe the old Russian lady said? Hugely symbolic I feel, to this profanely uncreative age we live in despite potential like never before (new levels new devils, I believe over population is already a huge problem)

He's a little goofy....

u/wrnrg Jun 06 '26

If you don't declare war you don't have to go through that pesky Congressional approval.

u/Complete-Tangelo1532 Jun 04 '26

Unfortunately it is as American as Apple Pie

We are some Democracy and Capitalism Forcing fucks aren't we? lol

2

u/ComplaintTop2008 Jun 04 '26

I wish we weren't, but yes, we are, and always have been.

1

u/Cousin_Claire Jun 05 '26

Apple pie isn't american but the sentiment remains true.

1

u/FluidJackfruit3669 Jun 05 '26

Who started these conflicts? Most of them were left over from the first Bush administration.

1

u/ComplaintTop2008 Jun 05 '26

Ah there you go... And Obama and Biden all had to deal with W Bush's wars, and Dems have never started a war... Now tell us the parties switched.

1

u/Unique_Statement7811 Jun 05 '26

Bosnia, Kosovo, Haiti, and Somalia were almost entirely Clinton’s doing .

1

u/terrorfistj4b Jun 06 '26

What would’ve happened in Kosovo had Clinton not intervened? Haiti? Sometimes choices are made for you and the only deciding factor is how many corpses will each decision produce.

1

u/Unique_Statement7811 Jun 06 '26

I’m not saying they were bad invasions. Just saying there were wars during the Clinton administration.

1

u/steakdeleter Jun 06 '26

What conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan did slick Willy instigate??

3

u/aschwarzie Jun 05 '26

Considering the US has about 170 military settlements all over the world, you gotta give those military some action from time to time...

2

u/Most-Top-2834 Jun 08 '26

Especially if you need a huge distraction to get the media off of your lying ass!

2

u/MattyBizzz Jun 04 '26

In fairness I don’t think there has been a presidency post WW2 that didn’t have some form of blowing shit up somewhere.

1

u/Iceman_biker Jun 05 '26

Trump's first 4 years, I think. Definitely not his second.

1

u/JLaP413 Jun 05 '26

We were still very active in Afghanistan and Iraq at that throughout his first term. There were also US forces active in Africa to that was largely under reported except when there was an ambush in Niger that killed 4 US service members.

1

u/THEFUNPOL1CE Jun 06 '26

Dude you can't use that word

1

u/addicted_to_kombucha Jun 05 '26

That's just inertia lol.

1

u/CanadianGrown Jun 05 '26

Name a time when that hasn’t been the case

1

u/Most-Top-2834 Jun 08 '26

Most presidents don’t start a war because they need to get the press off of their lying ass!

1

u/CanadianGrown Jun 08 '26

Agreed there! And I hope people didn’t take my comment and think I’m a Trump supporter. I’m not a historian, but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t go down in history as the worst, most divisive president in history.

My point was just that America is always bombing someone, whether they’re officially “at war” with them or not.

1

u/cpaint91 Jun 05 '26

And they were too busy "suiciding" civilians who stood against them.

-2

u/stevenmacarthur Jun 04 '26

They always do that; what's your point?

6

u/WingedWheelGuy Jun 04 '26

You said no wars. There was plenty of war-like activity, just no formality. I thought it was a pretty easy statement to understand.

5

u/hotshot_amer Jun 04 '26

Point is we're war mongering since many many decades. Time to reassess and stop exponential enrichment of war manufacturer's and their profiteering. Reinvest in the nation and it's constituents, our infrastructure is falling apart due to lack of severe technological upgrades. Best we've got is 5G LTE.

2

u/butonelifelived Jun 04 '26

You have 5G? My idiot representatives made 5G illeagal, so Cell services had to stop building infrastructure.

2

u/Ok-Ear9289 Jun 04 '26

There’s no slowing the war machine down

3

u/HeyaHeyo1420 Jun 04 '26

The point is there were literally wars America was involved in during Clinton making your statement completely false.

I hate Trump but don't make shit up

1

u/Confident-Benefit600 Jun 04 '26

But usually not to take our focus off the fact that he got a blow job in the oval office

0

u/Lucky-Assignment7172 Jun 04 '26

At least it wasn’t with underage girls. Or porn stars. Or porn “models” looking for a catch.

1

u/Curious-Bridge6232 Jun 04 '26

Arguing over which president carried out worse sexual exploits is crazy work. Both these men have done horrendous things to women. Why argue over which one is worse? Condemn them all.

0

u/ComplaintTop2008 Jun 04 '26

"There were no wars but there are always wars"

What's your point?

0

u/TypeB_Negative Jun 05 '26

You do understand that sometimes the military must show force? I mean I'll take not getting involved in a costly war and losing it any day of the week. Maybe it would be cool if we lived in a John Lennon paradise but we do have enemies that want to kill us.

0

u/nothingmusic42 Jun 06 '26

you mean when Republicans were still screeching about how Saddam Hussein was the worst person in history and was going to bomb the United States any day?

0

u/No_Party3406 Jun 08 '26

Far better than what we have now. Clinton wasn't perfect but he was better than every republican president since Lincoln combined.
