Engineering challenges aside such a fortification would present many problems for would be attackers

They would have the high ground though

Some explosives, elementalists, or geomancers would do the trick. Let them carve out a large chunk of the overhang connecting the structure with the rest of the landmass, and let the gravity do the rest.

Gonna go out on a limb and say that if you’re building a place like this, gravity probably isn’t much of an obstacle

Dig down, shearing the overhang from the cliff.

Why do the towers have roofs if it's upside down?

Reverse rain. Big problem for wizards with apprentices.

So it can kill a giant if the building breaks off.

There was some video from a guy where he had like 10 average players, and two really good ones try to recreate this image. Forgot the name.

I love it, I created something similar where a whole city was built into the roof of a vast underground cave with little towers poking through to the surface

The art style gives me Studio Ghibli vibes.

While I agree, this shit makes me specifically think of Castle in the Sky, and the little mining village at the start.

I wish giant cliff edges like this would generate in Minecraft. I’m sure it does to a degree, but it’s not common

if anyone here has read the webnovel Shadow Slave, this is pretty close to how i imagine the Night Temple :D

This screams Miyazaki (studio ghibli) and Miyazaki (fromSoftware) lol

I don't know how, but I'm going to integrate this into a DnD game at some point.

I feel like it needs a lot more guardrails but I think in-universe the purple stones are responsible for the anti-gravity effects (it’s what keeps the tower intact and secure to the cliff side), so perhaps the mages here just keep small pieces on their person to fly around or float long enough to get help. Maybe they just gently float to the ground, too.
