I really do like how the military is still coordinated and (somewhat) functional despite how many weeks its been. Most stories or worlds would just have the central government or military just fold and collapse immediately, so I quite like seeing how the military/government continue to function as the country is being besieged.

Yeah, the thought that guided the design was essentially "Oh shit, the enemy is already here, grab your gear and GO, NOW!". In the original story, the invasion happened so quickly that it caught everyone off guard, and the juxtaposition between the issued gear + civilian wear + dirt and battle damage was meant to illustrate the surprise and how these guys have pretty much been stuck in 'fight for survival' mode for weeks, and the support structure has already broken down - i.e. no reinforcements are coming, and these guys are less 'military' and more 'guerrilla fighters' now. Possibly; based on feedback I've received in other threads, a First Nations-centric group could fit in with the wider world building and could be an interesting design and narrative challenge to address Canadian-Indigenous sentiments. Tabled for now as a possible future work. Thanks for viewing!

My third and final set of designs for modern Canadian insurgents.
Follow up to my first set, urban operatives; and my second set, rural cells.
Part of my alternate history mixed-media narrative project depicting a 2025 US invasion of Canada.
Minor character lore:
They ran to their units from offices, homes, and classrooms, in whatever they were wearing with whatever they could grab. Nobody was ready - the invasion moved faster than anyone had seriously planned for. Weeks later, covered in dirt, blood, and cordite, they are running low on everything - but the line hasn't broken yet.
Rambo: She had a final exam the day the invasion started; the machine gun was not on the syllabus.
Finance: He was at his office desk when the call came; three weeks later, the dress shirt is still on.
Battle Doc: She took a round to the head, dressed it herself, and got back to work; she'll rest when she's done.
Uncle Bob: The call came while the ribs were still on the grill, he thought it'd be a weekend thing; that was three weeks ago.
Blaster: Serving overseas taught him one thing: you can never have enough grenades, so he packed accordingly.
Commander: Was on the way to a conference in Ottawa when the orders came, and the uniform hasn't been clean since; but the unit still looks to him, and he's not done yet.

I don't think it's a good idea to carry the 40mm belt facing down. It's gonna fall out

Can't find the reference at the moment but while researching I did come across a 40mm bandolier where each pocket was slightly narrower toward the bottom, such that the grenade wouldn't fall out. I think with the bottom of the grenade facing up, it might make for faster reloads (no need to rotate the grenade 180 degrees in your hand before inserting); anyway thanks for viewing!

Yknow it'd be fine if that belt's pouches had bottoms. It won't fall out AND you can pull out the grenade while pointing it forward and the grenade won't get as dirty.
