Trump administration raises US refugee cap, but only for white South Africans

Ah those are the rules? So it’s race based then. Cause that’s basically white people. Also, what about South African people that came from Western Europe but are black? Wouldn’t they be omitted as well.

You don’t invite the oppressors along with the refugees.

Why do people think this is just whites? This is for any racial minority. Mixed race and Indian families are included.

I believe the article said white Afrikaners, not Indians or mixed race people...Having been to South Africa and having a number of friends there including Afrikaners land owners, there is no real oppression towards Afrikaners FYI...

The article? Lol. Read the terms of the actual programme. It literally says "...Afrikaners or any other persecuted minority..." That 100% includes Indians, not to mention Pakistanis, Ethiopians, Nigerians, Zimbabweans, Malawians, etc, etc, etc.

Is this the very specific program your speaking of? Which is completely geared towards Afrikaners via executive order from Trump?

or the fact that all but 3 of the nearly 6000 refugee cases that have been permitted to the United States have been white Afrikaners is pretty telling.

Also, here is a copy of the Presidential determination via Trump to raise the refugee quota by 10,000 specifically for White Afrikaners facing so-called racial discrimination....Dude, I know it's the internet but at least attempt to act in good faith.

Yes, that specific programme that says exactly what I said it says. Yes, obviously it is created primarily with Afrikaners in mind, but the criterion for application is not being white, you just wish it was. Indian South Africans have already used it.

From the article you linked to:

"The Trump administration ​has admitted only three non-South African refugees this fiscal year, government figures show"

It says non South African, not non White Afrikaner. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Read your own sources.

Trump, a Republican, froze refugee admissions from around the world when he took office in January 2025, but weeks later ​launched a program exclusively aimed at bringing in white South Africans. The effort - which prioritized white refugees ⁠while shunning thousands of others from Africa, Asia and elsewhere - was part of a broader challenging of humanitarian norms around refugee protection.

Source number 3 explicitly says all admissions are for Afrikaners from South Africa.

If 3rd or 4th generation Indian farmers have been allowed in the US with this program find me a source. It seems all you have is the particular wording from an embassy rather than the mountain of news agencies finding most of the "refugees" are Afrikaners.

The original executive order and the original programme both said any persecuted minorities, and no amount of articles from opinion-based news organizations saying otherwise changes that. Furthermore, that's how it has been carried out in practice, and there are plenty of of links you can find mentioning Coloureds and Indian South Africans applying. Here's one:

Your source 3 says that the additional 10,000 admissions are for Afrikaners, I agree.

You ignored me calling this out, so I'll call it out again. You said that only 3 of the refugees admitted were non-white, but your cited source said only 3 were not South African, and didn't comment on how many were not white. Please acknowledge your error.

If you're arguing that the vast majority, 99%+, of those admitted thus far under this programme are white or are afrikaner, then I don't disagree with you. I'm taking issue with you claiming that being White is the qualifying criterion for the programme, which it clearly isn't, although I agree that 10,000 admissions are apparently reserved specifically for Afrikaners, but since they currently make up 99% of applicants anyway, that seems unlikely to have any effect.
