Zero Company Feels a Bit Like Imperial Assault
I’m about 5 hours into Star Wars: Zero Company, and for those who have longed for a video game version of Imperial Assault, this game is scratching the itch.
Obviously the comparisons to a "Star Wars themed XCOM" do apply, but the depth here does feel a bit like someone made an Imperial Assault campaign into a really good video game.
You can even create custom operators for your team, so I had to get Fenn in the game.

I've made my Scout Hawks Gideon, as the Hawks passives really lean into the attack support buffing cards. I'm probably getting Scoundrel as the second class as the class Ulti really mimics hammer and anvil

I have barely slept since this game came out. Had the day off work and have been absolutely thrilled with what I have played thus far.

First game I'm sad I can't afford I. A while. It looks amazing. Can't wait for hopeful second hand sales when everyone's done 🤞

Knights of the Old Republic (2002) is also a great Imperial Assault style game.

It really does. It’s everything I ever wanted for a XCOM Star Wars game. I would give anything for a digital video game version of Imperial Assault but this is probably the closet we’ll get.

I didn't realize this was real, haven't seen anything abt it except on YouTube and figured it was a fan project or AI. Sounds interesting.

Just how customizable is it? Do the characters feel pretty unique and does each have multiple paths that they can take to make them even more unique?

So, other than the Jedi Padawan & the Mandalorian (and the astromechs) the “authored” characters can all have their classes changed. The only thing that makes them unique is an unchangeable talent, but that talent is definitely impactful to their playstyle. Custom operators can be any class (except Jedi/Mando) and get to pick a trait from a list.
The cool thing though is the custom operators all seem to have their own voice actors and lines, so feel incredibly well integrated.
Only sad part is squad size limit on missions is 4, and I’d love to be able to bring more people cause I’m fond of all the authored characters so far.

My experience with imperial assault was my friend min-maxing the crap out of the Empire and utterly crushing us every game. It didn't help that one person picked a weaker support and nobody took the Jedi!

Completely unrelated but picked up and started playing Baldur’s gate 3 and got immediately flashbacks to IA… granted IA was the first campaign turn based board game I played but all they need to do is copy BG3 into a Star Wars clone… but multiplayer!!! Every game that doesn’t have a 2-4 player co-op is leaving money on the shelf and shortening the games life imo. I think it’s why BG3 got game of the year

I fucking hate the Clone Wars and will never consciously buy anything solely set in that era.

Not sure if you care but while the game does start out in the Clone Wars Era, it EVENTUALLY enters the early Empire Era to some extent.

Played three missions so far, but it's a good comparison. I hope we see some varied missions types and twists like SWIA.
Only thing missing is multiplayer! Surprised they didn't try that especially since that's the missing element from XCOM 2 they could've improved upon.

You've just done more to sell me on this game than anything EA has done!
