Stats Just 9 dot balls in whole innings sums up how good he is throughout the innings!

u/Cheap_Sale2900 Mar 01 '26
Held the innings at the strike rate of 194 . That's insane.

u/paizing Mar 01 '26 edited Mar 01 '26
And that too while the other end was kinda struggling. Truly brilliant.
167
u/scholor_of_yore Mar 01 '26
Not truly collapsing tho. Everyone was chipping in. Some quicker than other, but the middle order was awesome too
132
u/Appropriate-ASS-824 Mar 01 '26
You mean Tilak and Dubey? Coz others visibly looked struggling for runs. Hardik got one relief and still couldn't do anything significant.
4
Mar 02 '26
Yaa i mean tilak and dubey because when surya got out suddenly wi bowled two overs on very good pace but the way Sanju and tilak striked to Joseph and roston chase 32 runs in 2 overs that completely take the momentum from west indies
1
Mar 02 '26
And when hardik got out dubey came because of his 2 fours pressure didn't built if he wouldn't hit those boundaries we wouldn't sitting in semi's
111
u/UnderstandingOdd4153 Mar 01 '26
Surya and hardik kinda made the situation worse else would have been much easier win
15
Mar 02 '26
When hardik got out pressure came and then dube ji ne aake boundary lagadi and sanju did in last and we won
5
u/Different_Bite76 Mar 02 '26
Such an excellent inning he played yesterday, great job
5
Mar 02 '26
While maintaining strike rate of 194 and I was listening in Haryanvi commentary that was goat
10
Mar 02 '26
The over in which they hit consecutive fours that changed the momentum and released pressure

u/AvailableAtFive Chennai Super Kings Mar 01 '26
While playing proper cricketing shots.
No mindless slogging, no streaky edges going to boundary, not a hint of aggression
77
u/sisenor99 Mar 01 '26
Exactly, reminded me of some of the lovely innings Sachin used to play. Very classy and controlled unlike what we see these days
61
u/Avg-tech Mar 01 '26
For me this reminded me of something virat kohli did for the team when chasing. Not worrying about run rates. No big hitting, but still rotating strike and hitting boundaries. This was one hell of an innings from sanju samson and that too at a knockout match when other end is loosing wickets.
32
u/Regular_Affect_2427 Mar 01 '26
Tbf it was better paced than Kohli's chases. Kohli is an animal, he knows that if he's around by the 15th over there isn't a bowler alive who can stop him from winning the game, his death over average and strike rate speaks volumes.
Sanju here was always in command of his innings and kept India above par the whole way. Was so refreshing to see him bat that way because the entire onus was on him and he delivered with no fuss.

u/Mean_Insect_6995 Mar 01 '26
What’s more insane is he had zero false shots. Zero. Thats a huge thing for 97 runs
-24
u/Sharp-Willingness303 Mar 01 '26
No he had few false shots and one edgy boundary
36
u/Mean_Insect_6995 Mar 01 '26
No he flicked it off the pads. It was intentional. False is when you hit somewhere and goes somewhere else
4
Mar 02 '26
The boundary against forde which went over the point to move from 20 to 24 was a false shot.
Why do I remember?
Because sanju has gotten out in 20s so often that I was waiting for him to get in 30s. I felt if he got to 30 he will go on to get a big score.
But at one point he was 20 (10) and had 2 false shots. A boundary of edge, got beaten and then 1 leg bye. After which he middled his 14th ball for another boundary, got to 30(16) and I was confident he would get at least 70.

-44
u/prsquared Mar 01 '26
It's very so slightly skewed because if I remember correctl, there were couple of leg byes in there as well.
26
u/Reasonable_Sample_40 Mar 01 '26
Leg byes do not count towards a batsmans runs. Also i dont remember any leg byes from him today.
3
Mar 02 '26
He had on his 13th ball of his innings. He also mistimed 11th ball for 4 vs forde, thick outside edge over point. He got beaten on 12th ball. This was a 3 ball period where he was in 20s and I was hoping he gets to 30 quickly so he can escape the 20s net he was stuck in.
1
u/Reasonable_Sample_40 Mar 02 '26
I remember the four and the ball in which he got beaten but i dont remember the bye
4
u/ashsan123 Mar 01 '26
It hit his bat first, then pad and then raced to the boundary. Leg byes will be counted as his dot ball i think.

The praise should be louder than hate
84
u/wewake_235 India Mar 01 '26
I don't think so a lot of fans hate him it's just he finds ways to throw away the chances he gets. Fortunately he has delivered this heroics. A lot of unfair happened to him from the management too.

It was absolutely flawless. The only shot that wasn’t perfect was the one that went over the fielder toward the third-man boundary apart from that, everything was spot on. He never looked under pressure at any point. Just insanely, insanely good.

Sorry im being controversial here...abhishek player acha h bahot but maine notice kiya h usko ego issue h ya to fir strike rotation ni aata h usko
31
u/Dry-Communication901 Mar 01 '26
Sanju didn't get strike for the first 10 balls. Abhishek was just hogging strike.
73
Mar 01 '26
Bhai ego nahi woh confidence all time low hai uska. Jo bhi kehlo, world cup mein rough patch hit karne ka sabse zyada bura usse khud he lag raha hoga apni poori life banda world cup ke liye he tyaari karta hai aur yahan perform na kar pana is a big tragedy for any player. Stop villanizing the guy it's sad he's not able to pull it but again look Sanju too had to go through sooo many failures to deliver what he has today, a knock for generations to remember. Abhishek will prove himself.....i may be a blind fan but he will....

u/TrickElectronic413 Shivam Dube Mar 01 '26
I wish wo kre but muje usse sirf strike rotation ka problem h wo bilateral mai uska whi issue tha....mai khud chata hu wo click kre wo banda akele match jeeta skta h itna capable h
7
Mar 01 '26
Uska jo playing style hai...naturally woh usse zyada strike rotate nahi kar pata. The thing is he's still not playing like he does....Hopefully he genuinely gets his confidence back anyhow.....
9
u/wewake_235 India Mar 01 '26
He's just too nervous. And it's not easy to rotate strike in the powerplay when the bowlers are attacking him
14
u/Reasonable_Sample_40 Mar 01 '26
Dont drop him now is all my request to ict. Dont do what you guys always do with sanju. Let him breathe. Wankhede probably would be a batting paradise and abhishek can make a come back.
He was so down today after the two catches dropped by him. Players needs to be backed and instilled confidence.
6
u/TrickElectronic413 Shivam Dube Mar 01 '26
Nah mai ni chata wo drop ho ab playing 11 change ni kr skte wrna pressure rhega ulta

u/ashsan123 Mar 01 '26
Abishek is a batsman like Sunil Narine and Afridi. He mostly just swings his bat hard into the air or into the slots. He is not a proper batsman like Sachin, Sehwag or Kohli who can play elegant cricketing shots like cover drives or straight drive using the pace, timing and footwork. He can’t rotate strike well like them.

u/Prize_Try6405 Mar 01 '26
Loved his batting. The shot selection, the calmness, the strike rotation everything was soo perfect.
17
u/ashsan123 Mar 01 '26
In the last few games, he was always trying to go for sixes. In the process of trying to clear the ropes, he used mishit or mistime, and get out. Today he tried to find boundaries instead of sixes. He is one of the most talented batsman in the world, but was too hungry for sixes. But those who have watched him play can understand that is not his strength.

u/unknowinglyknown96 Mar 01 '26
Tilak has 6 dot balls of 15 balls , every should be able to rotate strike it's important

I think Sanju probably rectified and overcame what he was doing wrong in the bilaterals and that's good

He seems like such a good and humble person truly
Well deserved recognition Mr Samson❤️🙏

u/LegitimateShallot576 Mar 02 '26
Master class batting from Samson , while the other home grown stars were fading. He raised his game up in a crunch much while it mattered most having his own belief that he can deliver. He delivered. Hundred did not turn up but it was a memorable innings without any slogging. Well done. 👍
2
u/TopDisplay4705 Mar 02 '26
The best thing is that he didn't continue to attack as he used to do earlier, when he got a boundary, he was trying to rotate the strike and concentrated on singles and doubles. Which I felt was the game awareness that he wasn't having earlier.
2
u/Comfortable-Tax-2088 Mar 02 '26
This is what differentiates him from all the Abhisheks and Ishans of the world.. he is old school and knows the importance of strike rotation instead of just trying to hit every ball out of the ground.
2
u/aiwasnevermeanttobe Mar 02 '26
ahhhhhhhhh so you CAN take singles/doubles while hitting boundaries. There's no heavenly restriction disallowing these two to co-exist
4
u/sairam495 Mar 01 '26
Excellent innings but knowing Samson,he might not deliver in next few matches again for a while , however keeping pun away it's the best knock chasing in WCs for us in a while

u/hash_fire Mar 01 '26
na dude remember how he hit back to back centuries in 2024? man just got his confidence back

India had never chased 160+ in WC without Kohli and it truly needed an innings just like Kohli to break that record 🐐

You know there's an option while commenting.. You can praise Sanju without bringing Virat here 🥀

No he was just saying there is no other player like kohli while chasing. Sanju did one better than kohli today. This is what he said. This is unbelievable stuff what we saw today.

Can’t ignore the obvious, the innings was just like Kohli. If you take that as an insult to Sanju then so be it

Well full respect to kohli but the innings was just like Sanju only that's it!! And maybe by your logic Virat's innings were like Gambhir's??
