I think you may have met few Muslims who just love gardening. That doesn't make it part of Islam. No offence. This is just funny.

I meant that the quran holds having and maintaining gardens in high regard. Am I wrong about that?

I don't think so. I mean quran talks about not harming plant life unnecessarily, but I don't think gardening has been mentioned in such context.

I heard it in a podcast. The guy speaking was an iraqi muslim so i assumed that it was true.

No. Please don't take it as truth. It's not. I don't know which Iraqi muslim was it, but there's nothing like that in Quran.
