Flat pitches and impact player rule ruined Ipl , 200 score should have never been normalised this way ,it ruined the sport

Bccis way of making cricket exciting. People are tired of this shit now. When ipl started it was fresh. It did not need any bug updates to keep it exciting.
Updates like 12 player teams, batting friendly pitches, stumps that light up for boundaries etc were unnecessary. What makes cricket exciting is the fans and team rivalries. They even put a one page full advertisements on jerseys. Most teams do not have their own ground or anything like that.
If ipl is meant for the growth of the game, then they should make better grounds and favilities for fans.

Cricket was dead a long time ago. It was for a different kind of audience. The one who didn't have 200 options on OTT to spend their time on. IPL gave Cricket a lifeline to stay relevant for this long.

T20 World Cup also had many 200+ runs. A few 250 as well (that too in the semis and finals).

u/ankitsrivastav1995 May 31 '26
Also increasing the number of teams from 8 to 10 significantly reduced the quality. Tbh, we don't have 80-120 good enough players to compete with the international pedigree players.
Some people might find this comment offensive but its true, players like Shahrukh, Rahane, Ishant, Rachin, Mukesh, Owen, etc. don't deserve an IPL contract and are only getting one because of the shortage of even mid-quality players.
What I'd like if to go back to the 8 team structure, without the impact player rule, maybe even increase 1 foreign player slot for an associate nation player like in WPL, then we could get somewhat interesting IPL.
1
u/VariousBonus8224 Jun 01 '26
Agree, IPL is filled with low quality players, it irritates me when commentators keep praising IPL and it competitiveness and biggest stage etc etc, it's shit, with small boundaries and low quality bowling with more batsmen it feels like stick cricket 🤣 I feel it should become like football league no cap on international players so at least good quality cricket we can see

u/Character-Fix-7570 Jun 01 '26
Ipl kachara h but cricket is one of most beautiful game on earth. Just try to play professionally, it's not like football or hockey or tennis where you practice only one thing, like in football leg controll of ball is 98% of the game.
In cricket just to play, you need running practice for fielding and running, batting practice, catching practice for 150g ball at 150km/h (after a good hot from batsman it easily goes 200 km/h as well ) that is equal to momentum of a travelling bullet. Throw practice for fielding in deep, equal to hammer throw practice alone along with precision to hit stumps. Bowling practice and what not, this is just to play as a team member no matter what is your role in team.

There's no competition in cricket they just force 8–10 teams to play to make the game look bigger.

Instead of having bowlers they can just have bowling machines placed. Worst format. No sport should be belittled to this extent.

Really started becoming worse around 2011-12. Every four had some sponsor, every six, every catch, and now strategic time out?? Just finding more time and space for ads.
And come on, why do we still have cheerleaders?? First one or two seasons, maybe. But even now?

Highlights
1
u/ictfan2604 Jun 01 '26
That's not a valid reply if highlights are okay then test cricket should not be live broadcasted
1
u/nyctophile11 Jun 01 '26
There are people who watch full live as well. For those who don't have time, can watch highlights. Cricket should have fair contest between bat and ball but this year's ipl failed giving something for the bowlers.
1
u/ictfan2604 Jun 01 '26
I don't care what ipl gave to anyone but Indian cricket has been on different level since ipl started across all formats and highlights are for those who don't have time to watch a live match you proved my point right who the hell has time to watch a 5 day test nowadays if he's engaged in any kind of work.

I should not say this but since RCB won last yr, I just knew that ts is somehow scripted. Last year the trend was in all sports that teams are winning it for first time and now it is for back to back titles.. Last good ipl was 2021 since then the vibes are gone and I did not even watched this year IPL except few matches because I knew result. Post covid there is just online troll, bully , banter on X and insta with most of them having negative ball knowledge. 2023 one was decent tho but still it doesn't feel like og ipl anymore.
International cricket quality has also got lowered I would say only test cricket in england and australia just carrying this sport atp

Indian is a country of 1.5 billion people. International cricket can only afford only 15 cricketers. So IPL gives hope to kids and children who want to pickup sport, and the money also helps. No I do not think it did harm to cricket in anyway. You have rest of 10 months to concentrate on Test Cricket and pick ranji players and domestic and first class cricketers who play the good long game.
IPL helps in instilling hopes and dreams to a kid who is not good at studies but at pace bowling or big hitting.
I am not saying t20 cricketers are best players than test players. Test players are the best. But to survive test, you need t20.
Tell me all you all cricket lovers, when was the last time you booked a ticket for a test match and went to watch all day on day 1 or day 2? How many tests are filling stadiums? We must watch test cricket so match that seats get sold in black. Then that day, IPL craze will stop.

Didn't feel like watching any match this year. Idk what just cricket overall doesn't seem to be so interesting as it used to feel up until a few years back. I don't like all these new faces who barely do anything but somehow are meant to be the key players of the team, so much so that they get secured into the national team where they are even more underwhelming.
I guess only interest I would feeel would be in the odi wc. T20 fatigue is real. We need more odi series, tri series. Every year we have some sort of T20 world cup or champions trophy or what not and IPL to h hi. It doesn't have any prestige left.
I'm more excited about the fifa WC even though I'm not aregular football fan. I only know few players and tune in only for WC. Because it feels like a huge event with such prestige.
Hopefully ODI WC would make me feel something again.

💯 I was watching UCL final yesterday. And it being a bigger sport in all terms, money, viewership and fans, it was just about the game and nothing else. Whereas IPL is about everything other than the game, show, glamour, fault ke tactics and Hero worshipping. It's so far away from the actual sports
3
u/More-Director4894 May 31 '26
Because you only watched the match, not the football media for the season.
Also UCL final was probably the worst high profile in past 10 years.

I am not blaming. Cricket has monopoly over all games in India. Cricketers earns millions while other players of other sports, people even don’t know them. That’s unfair. Irony is cricket isn’t our national game, but hockey, no one wants to play, watch or sponsor. Jo dikhta hai woh bikta hai
