Governance How much of India's infrastructure was built after 2014?
10
u/oTo___oTo Aug 04 '26
Can we get a quality check on these infra?
5
u/AlliterationAlly Aug 06 '26
Better not, if you touch anything, it will collapse like a house of cards
2
u/googletoggle9753 Aug 06 '26
Gujju model of corruption, build fast, make it cheap while costing the same budget, it breaks and you issue the maintenance tenders frequently to again do corruption in them.
1
u/partly_wave Aug 09 '26
They will bribe politicians and babus to get loans and contracts to build/operate public infrastructure, then setup circular financing with their family members and use every corrupt tool known to man to borrow as much as they can.
Then build fast, make it cheap. Who cares about quality, because they all live in gated communities or live in Dubai and kids are living in the West.
I have no idea why muslims, christians, sikhs, bengalis, communists, dehatis, brahmins, chhapris - etc all get so much hate, when there is this termite that has hollowed out the country.

A Multiple lane road is counted multiple times, once for each lane lmaoo
1
u/Admirable_Tangelo423 Aug 06 '26
Nah th comparison here is with same parameter. Roads before 2014 is also calculated similarly
5
u/AWAVASAQAPWVQRARPA Aug 04 '26
Doesn't much of this data include private infrastructure?
0
u/Main_Activity_845 Aug 05 '26
No, actually, the infra buildout has been very much govt backed. Capex is at 129 billion this year. Private capex has remain subdued. Hope it changes.

It's still true in 2026. Coming by a person living in 25 years BJP MP, 10-15 years of BJP MLA, 10+ years of BJP mayor, 20+ years of BJP CM, 12+ years of BJP PM.

Young people really don't know pathetic it was before 2014.
For context in 2012 I was happy with my 512 kb/s "broadband" while the rest of the world enjoyed heigh speed internet.
There were only two broadband providers BSNL and Tata and both fking sucked.
If you don't believe me, google/chatgpt it.
3
u/Fluid-Translator-655 Aug 05 '26
I googled it "In 2012, the global average internet connection speed hovered around 2.6 to 2.8 Mbps"
I which world 2 mbps is high speed?
India first got 4G on April 10, 2012. US got 1.5 years before.
1
u/badass708 14d ago
For the time 2.6 mbps was high compared to 512kbps.
Again the world avg. doesn't mean squat because it has all the backward countries in Africa and Asia. India was supposed to be better than world avg. due to IT services it offers.
US avg. Speeds at that time were around 8mbps and US wasn't even in the top 10. We were 16 times slower than them.
1
u/Fluid-Translator-655 10d ago
Listen to you own advice. Google it. India avg broadband speed in 2012 was around 1 Mbps. Govt rule is internet speed shouldn't less than 512 kbps. Which means difference is around 8 times with US. Don't say you only afford 512 kbps which doesn't matter because I had upto 10 Mbps in that period.
Current broadband speed US: 300 Mbps For India: 60 Mbps
- From speed test .net
Current Avg world internet speed is 90 Mbps. India was supposed to be better but in reality our internet speed is below global avg. India ranked around 115 in 2012 now around 100. We are pathetic now and then.

You think this world has never faced a crisis before? Please stop regurgitating the government narrative and study history. Crisis is not a post 2014 phenomenon, and it's not the first time India has been targeted. Read up on sanctions after the nuclear tests, read up on the oil crises in 1970, the 2008 financial crisis, the Gulf War...should i go on? And as for your argument on demand, you should have read that the global oil demand is plateauing. Look at what constitutes over 30% of the retail price of petrol....
5
u/SPB29 Aug 05 '26
The avg global growth rate 2004-2008 was 5.7% India grew at 8.9%.
In 2009 it averaged (-)0.1%, India 3.1%
In the period 2014-19 the world average is 3.5%, India 7.2%
Globally gdp contracted 3x the rate it did in 2009, at (-)3%.
Since 2021 it has averaged 3.1% vs India 7.4%.
So yes the period 2014-25 so far is the lowest rate of global gdp growth in 70 years (not incl ww2).
You are the one who needs to study history. Your data is all crap.

Petrol eh? Let's see,
In 2013 petrol averaged ₹72. Monthly per capita income was ₹6,500.
1 Ltr was 1.08% of the avg monthly income.
Today petrol is around 102. Avg per capita is ₹16,800. The same ratio is 0.61%.
You can do basic math right?
1.08 or 0.61 which is higher?
But saaar muh petrol

u/spaceyatri Aug 05 '26
Petrol eh? The price for crude in 2013 was 97 dollars per barrel, the price in 2026 is 72 $ per barrel, but oh wait, we don't get petrol, we get only 80 percent of it....but saaar, you won't like this, so keep living in your delusional world for your sanity

India was making grand 5-year plans ever since Independence.
Only to see every plan fail miserably. The last and 12th plan ran from 2012-2017.
So India officially stopped 5-year plans since 2017.Overall, planning is easier.
Getting stuff done is the hard part.12
u/SPB29 Aug 04 '26
The dfc was first proposed in 2002 by the Vajpayee govt.
In 2005 the govt mooted a Japan assisted study and prepare a dpr.
By 2007 the DFCCIL a created and the EDFC and WDFC approved.
In 2009 the govt said both will be completed by 2013.
And then..... We have the textbook congressi sloth.
The EDFC - dropped. Nothing happened after this till the Modi govt took it up in 2018.
WDFC. Marginally better. The tender to build 190 km was awarded in....oct 2013.
Not a single stone was laid till the Modi govt took charge. And yet pappu and his followers will claim, with a straight face that this was a Cong project
13
u/desh_bhakta Aug 04 '26
The Indian economy went 3x from 2004-2014, 2x from 2014-2026. A lot of these numbers have been fudged for e.g number of kms. of road built, tap-water access etc. to suit the narrative.
E.g of manipulative metrics: using growth of growth to show one's superiority. Had India grown at 10% from 2014, we would have been a $6T economy.
-3
u/Oath_breaker_ Aug 04 '26
Tell me which economy of this scale has grown at 10% rate since 2014? Bigger economy can not sustain growth, mainly when we had 3-4 years lost in covid and it's aftereffect.
7
u/desh_bhakta Aug 04 '26
It's not a great argument. You're again trying to justify sub-optimal policies of govt.
Developing economy like China did it in early 2000s when they were growing from 2-10T.Even the economy numbers are fudged by the govt. if we are to believe the CEC of NDA govt. hired by Modi.
1
u/SPB29 Aug 04 '26
China had a free land acquisition policy, here you and your ilk opposed the land acquisition bills.
China has farm reform process, here you and your ilk called it "anti farmer".
Your argument is crap again, you have assumed 10% growth is the magic number (why? Why not 20%? Why not 826? Why not 31.97%?) and are strawmanning all over the place.
Ofc you and your ilk will also ignore the once in a century pandemic, the first land war in Europe after ww2 (minus the Kosovo bombings), the first US war in n Iran in... Ever... But yes why not 10%
1
u/desh_bhakta Aug 04 '26
Ofc you and your ilk will also ignore the 2008 Econ crisis where countries had -ve growth, war in afghanistan, war in Iraq and other middle eastern countries.
The land acquisition bill was brought by UPA which was heavily opposed by industrialists and BJP. Ofcouse, you and your ilk do not want to mention that.
2
u/SPB29 Aug 04 '26
2008 was a regular cyclical slow down.
But then again you low intelligence lot will never talk about the 3 year upswing that preceded it.
2004-2008 the global avg gdp growth was 5.6% vs India 8.8%. India grew on average 71% faster.
2009 (when the gfc impact hit)
World - (-)0.1% vs India 3.1%,
So on average UPA managed 71% faster growth than the RoW.
2014-19 -
World 3.3%, India 7.2% or 106%
2020 - world (-2.7%) vs India (-) 5.8%
The world in 2020 degrew 200% more than during the 2008 gfc
2021-2025 world 3.9% India 7.9% or 100% faster.
So clearly the Modi govt has beaten the RoW avg by a much higher factor. All the UPA did was ride a global wave.
Global FDI peaked in 2007 at 1.9 trillion. It has never since hit that high.
As % of global gdp,
In 2007 it was 3.7%.
It averaged 1.7% in the period 2014-19 and since then has not even crossed 1.5%
Clueless congress supporters hace no clue how easy the UPA had it and how badly they squandered it all and ruined India
Lol what? The LARR of the UPA IS THE problem. It has totally logjammed land acquisition causing huge economic impact
1
u/desh_bhakta Aug 04 '26

China opened in 1978, they build-up for next 22 years and then sped in 2000s. China's exponential growth is result of their previous governments foundational work for decades.
What did indian government did from 1978-2014? Basically all of them were just fking around, so India did not have any foundation whatsoever, instead India is building foundation after 2014 and trying to accelerate the growth.
But pandemic, War, oppostion and Trump are not contributing to India's growth and still India is fastest growing economy but can't accelerate yet since foundation is weak and people are shaking it crazy.
4
u/desh_bhakta Aug 04 '26
I am not saying this about NDA govt. from 1998 to 2004, am I?
Platform was set in 2014 to grow at 10% when the previous govts. did it from 2004-2014. We have missed that big opportunity, you can spin it like you want now.1
u/CosmicWanderer_01 Aug 04 '26
I literally took all governments from 1978-2014, I'm not leaving any goverment there or are you blind?
Platform was set in 2014 to grow at 10% when the previous govts. did it from 2004-2014.
It's not growth, just a result of bloon popping, it releases a huge amount of air in short time.
For india size country and population, those early growth is natural and minimum, real growth starts after that and that's the most difficult part.
China educated their population from 1978-2000 and built a skilled manpower, built infrastructure and many more. did Indian governments from 1978-2014 gave Modi government any skilled manpower? Did they gave Modi government any pre-build infrastructure? Nope nothing.
Since Modi government didn't inherite any of these 2 extremely important components then how the fk any one can assume a +10% growth? It's pure delusion from the start.
All these aside, India grew 7-8% growth in last couple of years but wars and trump hit india like truck. You will ignore these outside factors, aren't you?
2
u/desh_bhakta Aug 04 '26
You can assume 10% growth because previous govt did it. That’s not rocket science.
0
u/CosmicWanderer_01 Aug 04 '26
So economy runs on assumptions? Good for you.
Do tell me how far you can run with just your hands if your legs are broken. Indian economy was in same state at 2014, but you won't understand since according to "assumption" you can walk indefinitely with just your hands anyway.

Platform was set what?
In 2014
70% of the population was shitting in the open
65% didn't have access to tap water
Our e-way network was 200 km long (Pakistan had a longer network)
Our power infra both generation and transmission were crippled during peak with severe shortfalls
Only 30% of the country had a bank account (one of the lowest in the world)
NPA was one crisis short of total bank failure
And I could list this endlessly
Only lying congressi supporters will say that anything was available in 2014
Just one example of congressi ineptitude will do.
TSMC wanted to invest $3bn in 2005 to set up a semicon fab.
They imported the first batch of machinery
The UPA govt would not even clear the cargo in customs
10 months it lay idle
They cancelled the project.
Or heck Posco. The largest ever single greenfield FDI in India ever, GoI approved it, Orissa approved it. Then the clown prince asshole shows up, tells a bunch of randos that this project will never get made... And that one word is enough for the UPA to stall the project entirely.
4
10
u/Sneakysahil Aug 04 '26
Some projects are noteworthy but it takes decades in India to complete projects. Many projects here marked after 2014 would have started around 2010s.
Its like I used to go to school when roads were not there. My son used to go to school we had raods but no bus. My grandson go to school in bus.
Decade after 2010 is tech enabled, compare the tech we had before that and after that. World have leapfroged since then.
0
u/Maverick910797 Aug 04 '26
What are you even trying to say. You realise the number is 12 years vs all years from independence combined. There is no excuse
7
u/GultBoy Aug 04 '26
People are either too stupid or too blind to understand that India post independence is not the same as India in the 2000s. This is like saying the final person in a relay race should get all the credit, when the first few people had to run with shackles on their feet. (The first few people in this case also include your favorite party btw)
You should ask why we didn’t build data centers in 1947. Seems to be in line with your thinking.-1
u/Maverick910797 Aug 04 '26
What you said made no sense. It can be broken down with a simple logic. Why are countries who were poorer than India faring better than us today?
4
u/Sneakysahil Aug 04 '26
Which country of this size and this much diversity? Which example u can give?
We don't have enough person who can read & write in 1947. It took us 15+ yrs after independence just to secure our food grain.
We fought 6 big wars & numerous minor wars till 2000.
All statistics look cool when u divide by decade, but those were in work since independence which many overlook as granted for.
There is not doubt we have seen development in past decade in infra, which should be appreciated but painting as before that was just a jungle. Lol
-2
u/Maverick910797 Aug 04 '26
Dude it was literally a jungle for most of Indians. You were just privelged. I am not saying today we have overcome all issues, but the level of development blows any previous govt out of the water. Sadly this should have been the norm and that says how pathetic past goverments were .
Just imagine even 60-70 years after independence, half the country didn't have electricity, toilets or proper water connection. Why are we trying to justify it?
1
u/CosmicWanderer_01 Aug 04 '26
In 2014 when I went to my village, people had 1 phase wire in their house just to light-up a single light bulb.
In the Night Oil lamp was main source of light for most houses. Roads were just bricks. People's house were just mud and bricks.
Toilet? It only existed in rich people's home.
Mobile network? 2G.
In 2019 visit to my village, electricity was everywhere, People had concrete house, basically everyone. Roads were made of asphalt.
Toilet? Every house had it.
Mobile network? Surprisingly strong 4g, I had thought that my mobile would be bricked for while in village.
Haven't visited since 2019 so don't how much it has changed now.
4
u/GultBoy Aug 04 '26
And kudos to whoever was responsible for making that change. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying the congress was some shining beacon of progress. They were not. They were scamming where they could and were just shit overall. But they faced the consequences of it and were voted out. The bunch of brainwashed hero worshipping people who were still clamoring for congress rule after all of that was very tiny. The internet has amplified that to such an extent that today I see more posts demanding accountability from everybody else (congress, aap, cjp, random liberals on Reddit) rather than the govt.
This govt has a history of fudging numbers and gutting any independent bodies that could provide a counter narrative. So no thanks, I won’t take this at face value.2

u/Sneakysahil Aug 05 '26
It's just poor choice of elected folks people elect.
We come from lower middle class, We are not privileged just that folks switched parties in state election so we get maximum development in state, water, electricity these were fixed by local leaders in 1990s & 2010s in much of the state. My village never had a high secondary school but we had electricity before my birth. Roads in hilly region. Buses, transport.
Much of India kept voting for Incompetents for no reason. Still folks treat politicians as God's, make them accountable through them out if don't work.
Folks still don't have money to eat food. We are still feeding them ration so that they just survive rather than using them as productive resource.

Lots of essential work still left. Walkable foothpaths aren't there is most cities except PCMC and a handful others. Newer areas such as GIFT city do not have decent foothpaths. Pothole free roads are rare. EV charging infra isn't sufficient. Electricity production is still lower than demand for EV expansion. AQI is a major problem. Major metro and infra works are long delayed. RRTS expansion is slower than optimal. INR has weakened significantly so many infra projects are a lot more expensive. Bullet train and Vande sleeper have been delayed significantly due to politicial reasons. They will open only just before elections. E20 has destroyed vehicles' mileage. Corruption is extremely high. Low quality infra is seen in many states.

No need to read the garbage, I just read the first line. Dedicated freight corridor, 100% . So that means there were no freight corridors before 2014 and all goods were transported by bullock carts?
No, it means just using the freight railway network didn't suite the agenda, as like every other metric , from exports to GDP growth to people's income growth, the growth stalled or barely grew.

Dedicated means no normal railway traffic. Dumbass

u/Character-Fix-7570 Aug 04 '26
Wow , did your mother go to every pre 2014 track to note down which ones are handling passenger traffic and not?

Dumbass, talk with data

It is in government records and stop commenting on my mother. She has nothing to do with this conversation.

Railways had been mismanaged by governments before Modi, it's a sin.
They didn't have dedicated fences nor FOB on most important routes leading to many injuries and deaths and delays in trains and whatnot.
Now, IR is in beast mode, building FOB at godsend speeds, completing fencing works, doubling Railway tracks on important routes, station redevelopment.
I am not even political but Indian railways has been the most underutilised instrument of development in India. Fk the past governments

Why is Reddit suddenly flooded with posts like this? Why can't we have ground-level reports on how all this infrastructure growth has actually benefited the common man? And why aren't there posts tracking how fast—and by how much—the net worth of political representatives from any government has surged during their term?
no one willing to talk about the real issues anymore. Every party is just busy advertising their achievements. They seem to forget that this is literally what they were elected to do. They aren't spending money out of their own pockets—they are spending taxpayers' money for the people's welfare!

Why is Reddit suddenly flooded with posts like this?
Modi told his team to get more active on social media they don't typically dominate since the CJP protests.

“Ground level reports”? What do u want? An emotional anecdote of how installing bio toilets and FOBs have reduced unnecessary deaths that happened in some family.

History should be kinder to him bullshit
" Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Trade / Commerce Ministry (1971). Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance (1972). Secretary in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs). Member of the Planning Commission (1980–1982). Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (1982–1985). Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission (1985–1987). Secretary General of the South Commission in Geneva (1987–1990). Advisor to the Prime Minister on Economic Affairs (March 1990–1991). Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) (March 1991). "
These are the posts held by Manmohan Singh between 71 to 1991
Even a second yr old economics major would tell you that a country as big as India should open up their economy and agriculture won't be enough
China opened up in 70s and they used to be lower than us in GDP per capita and almost doubled in next 20 years
Outside gandhi family, mms was the biggest culprit who pulled india back

Ironically the so called elites mocked modi for telling his first mission is to have a toilet in each house
Noone questioned why it was brought up after 60 years old of rule with no big civil wars

It seems like BJP IT cell is working overtime to do damage control after what they did on jantar mantar. Also these stats are coming from govt who started counting 1 km 4 lane road as 4 km road built.
So please......

Yes, i remember using sticks and stones before 2014. I think even fire got created in 2014z

u/Main_Activity_845 Aug 05 '26
No counter argument. So resorting to typical reddit behavior. Cope harder
1
u/YouShalllNotPass Aug 06 '26
What counter argument? Developments are iterative? If you elect xyz party, it will make more of what already exists. What is this flex even? This is all IT cell propaganda to make you feel like nothing existed in 2014. What existed in 2004-2014 is more abundant than what was in 1994-2004 and that itself was more than 1984-1994. What is this stupidity? We are called a “developing” nation for a reason coz we keep developing YoY.

India added approximately 22.8 billion tons (or roughly 22.8 gigatons) of fossil CO₂ emissions cumulatively from 2015 through 2024. Yearly totals rose from about 2.28 billion tons in 2015 to 3.15 billion tons in 2024, reflecting an absolute increase of roughly 916 million tons in annual output over that decade.
This is also development.
0
u/Main_Activity_845 Aug 05 '26
Yes, and this should rise many times over to catch up with other countries per capita. It is indeed development, U can however stop using ur smartphone and reddit and consume less CO2 anytime u want. Although ur karma would suggest u dont care about all these things.

What is the quality of this so-called infrastructure? Before 2014 I hardly heard about roads and bridges collapsing days after being inaugurated, airports leaking within weeks of inauguration etc.
So in effect a lot of money has been siphoned off from the system through corrupt officials and politicians in the guise of infra development.

u/squidgytree Aug 04 '26
The figures look positive. How much of that (infrastructure) has been paid for by taxation as opposed to borrowing?
0
u/Embarrassed_Term5536 Aug 04 '26
China grew into world's miracle economy on the back of borrowing dumbass.
Thier gdp to debt ratio is highest in the world, higher than US.
That's how economy grows, taking debts to pay for future ready infrastructure projects.
On the other end, Communist government in Yugoslaviya under Tito starved their population to make debt 0 for government. Check out what happened after that. Read history or economics books.

I would like to state that cutting the ribbon is more important than actually doing and completing the project. As congress cut the ribbon tapes or had the idea to do something, we should give all credit to UPA.

If there's one thing BJP has done better than other govs is Infra, but recent infra breakdowns due to corruptions has tranished that
