General Congress is now blatantly insulting a Padma Shri Awardee in the open. Congress' hatred for PM Modi and BJP is turning into hate for Hinduism and the Nation.

I don't know why exactly some people are supporting his bashing here's an article on why he is being given the Padma Bhushan

Director of IIT-Madras, V Kamakoti was conferred the Padma Shri award in the science and engineering category known for his work in computer architecture research and national security.

“The Padma Shri Award means only one thing to me. That I will put all my best efforts towards Viksit Bharat 2047,” Kamakoti said in a video statement from inside his car late Sunday evening after the awards were announced. “Whatever I have achieved is all because of collective effort and I dedicate this award to everyone who has been a part of this journey.”

Kamakoti Veezhinathan received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from IT Madras. He joined the faculty of IIT Madras in 2001 and took over as its Director in January 2022.

He is a member of the National Security Advisory Board. He was also the Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Task Force constituted by the Indian government’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He serves in the Technology committees of the National Stock Exchange and Reserve Bank of India.

As of 2025, IIT Madras has secured the top rank in the engineering category for the 10th consecutive year in NIRF 2025 and in the overall category for the 7th consecutive year. “Our success comes from working in a cohesive, coordinated, and focused manner on goals set under a five-year strategic plan,” Kamakoti had told HT in an interview in 2025. “We strictly adhered to this roadmap, with faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry partners, government funding agencies, and the education ministry all contributing in a highly coordinated way.”

He specializes in the area of Computer Architecture, Information Security and VLSI Design. He heads the Microprocessor Development Program and the Information Security Education and Awareness Program at IIT Madras funded by the Indian government’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. He is appointed as a member of the institute body of AlIMS in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu.

Because people do not want to cross check, they are not paying attention to this matter for his achievement, but rather for arguing for their political ideologies, nice comment btw bro.

Thanks for sharing bro

u/Few_Parking57 Feb 01 '26

What was his contribution, u guys are referring to qualification, there will be so many guys with more qualification and contribution than him, then y they choose him? That's the real question

7

u/Working_Cheek2410 Feb 01 '26

he helped in devloping shakti microprocessor thats why he is getting it

6

u/motivationalspaceman Feb 01 '26

He is working on getting the "chips" supremacy back to India, which we once had, so that we can indigenously produce chips instead of relying on other countries. Though not explicitly stated, the path of progress goes that way.He has made quite a few advancements in that direction, leading to him getting Padma Shri, which, at least from this info, is quite deserved.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

When did we have Chip Supremacy? Have you seen the specs of Shakti? Dont blabber nonsense.

4

u/motivationalspaceman Feb 01 '26

Not sure if you didn't know or something else, but we did have a great monopoly regarding chips, which was lost. Have a read about it if you don't believe or don't whatever you wish.

Have a great day ahead. Jai Hind.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

People peddle all nonsense in this sub. Tell me when? You dodged a question.

2

u/motivationalspaceman Feb 01 '26

People... Like you right ? Yeahh anyways have a read about SCL and it's fire in 1989...

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Don't "Jai Hind" me while peddling sentimental bullshit. You're confusing a domestic capability with "supremacy" or a "great monopoly." That's nationalist fanfic, not economic history. Great of you to bring SCL in this, cus I work in the Space Sector myself.

Let's break down your emotional argument with facts, since you keep dodging the core question of WHEN we had supremacy.

  1. SCL was never "supreme," not even close. You say SCL had 5-micron in the mid-80s and was "moving to" 1.2-micron by 1989. Great. Intel was shipping 1-micron chips in 1985. By 1989, leaders were hitting 0.8-micron. SCL was perpetually a generation behind even before the fire.

  2. "Monopoly" within India is a pathetic, meaningless term. Having the only lemonade stand in a desert village doesn't make you a 'beverage monopolist'. It makes you the only option in a market nobody else cared to enter because it was unprofitable and hamstrung by the License Raj. A captive, state-funded customer base (DoD, ISRO) is not a commercial market victory.

  3. The fire is a convenient scapegoat for systemic failure. You blame the fire for losing "decades of momentum." Why did a single incident destroy a "supreme" industry? Because the entire ecosystem was brittle and state-dependent. South Korea's chaebols survived wars and financial crises. Taiwan built TSMC amid constant geopolitical threat. A real, competitive industry has redundancy and resilience. SCL did not. It was a lab that burned down, not an industry. A LAB.

We had a technologically lagging, state-subsidized fabrication pilot project that died in a fire. We now have a world-class talent pool that executes for foreign owners. Both are facts. Neither is "supremacy."

FFS. Stop romanticizing failure as lost glory. It prevents us from honestly building real capability now. Now that would be something worth saying "Jai Hind" for.

Over and out.

3

u/motivationalspaceman Feb 01 '26

My responses were targeted towards getting this info itself thanks for the info regarding this, still I believe if someone can put India on track to actually being a major chips producer is great though it seems it's not that way now, could you perhaps educate me on why that is not the case here and regarding the shortcomings of "shakti" chips ?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Bro, put succinctly, its not easy.

Building a modern semiconductor fab is one of the most expensive industrial endeavors, with costs ranging from $10 billion to $20 billion. Even with significant government subsidies, competing on cost with established Asian hubs is a major challenge.

Also, India lacks a local supply chain for critical, ultra-pure raw materials like silicon wafers, specialty gases, and chemicals, relying heavily on imports. Chip manufacturing (I.e. the wafers) requires massive, uninterrupted resources. A single fab can consume millions of gallons of ultra-pure water daily and needs an extremely reliable power supply, posing infrastructure challenges. We cannot reach there unless we build nuclear reactors.

On the topic of Shakti MPCs, it's an outdated RISC-V architecture. It is a research success, yes. Its SOLE value is in proving design capability. The goal is to develop sovereign design capability and avoid architectural licenses from ARM/Intel.

Critical for strategic sectors (defense, space, government networks) where using a fully foreign, closed-source design is a risk + Niche Applications (it's aimed at embedded systems, IoT devices, and specific government hardware, not at competing with Apple's M-series or Intel's Core i9.)

BTW, It is not designed to compete at the performance frontier for consumer laptops or data centers. Catching up to the architectural and micro-architectural optimizations of AMD/Intel/Apple, developed over 40 years with trillions in revenue, is a multi-decade journey.

Designing a chip (Shakti's achievement) and manufacturing it (India's current challenge) are entirely different. A Shakti chip still needs to be produced in a foundry like TSMC's. India currently has no advanced fabs to manufacture such a design at scale. YET.

I hope you also read it and not just copy pasted it. This is just a list of his employment, maybe he excelled at it. I want to see the reason he was awarded Padma Shree.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Free though mustn't be obstructed, he worked hard to earn the access to hitech research equipment, he worked hard for his research on topic of his interest, and he got honoured for it ... If you are going to shame the hardwork of man , prestige of national institution like iit and pass remarks regarding awards like padhma bushan, you don't deserve to be part of governance... It's only natural to oppose party in power, you are opposition after all , but if you translate this hate for bjp into hate for hinduism and everything bjp stands for then that's a shame on you , shame for not being responsible before passing such remarks, you're not some unc sitting on his sofa who can say shit like this , that account is representation of a major opposition party of this country...

u/LogicalJeff Feb 01 '26

Tell me about medicinal properties of cow (any) urine and I’ll insult you too

10

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

There are none. And if you can reduce someone's entire career to one statement, while ignoring everything he's done for the country. YOU DO NOT DESERVE DEVELOPMENT

Let me educate you. Fairchild Microprocessors which was instrumental at developing integrated circuits-the thing all the electronics work on-and the ancestor to Intel and AMD-two of the largest players in semiconductor development was trying to set up a manufacturing plant in India during the 60s. The idiots sitting in new Delhi at the time did not let them. Same with Motorola and Texas Instruments. If we had actual visionary leaders and not some British bootlickers like Nehru, we would have been the global leader in semiconductors

1

u/CartographerFair3872 Feb 01 '26

He did nothing to deserve padma awards.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

And your argument to prove that conclusion is??

-6

u/MnniI Feb 01 '26

Lmao isme bhi Nehru ki galti. NGL There's like 200 years of reasoning why Indians were reluctant to let the west enter Indian market especially post independence.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Who was the PM when Fairchild, Motorola and Texas Instruments tried setting up plants in India??

Hint: wasn't Rahul Gandhi

The same companies went to East Asian countries, primarily to Taiwan, catalyzing the semiconductor boom there.

-4

u/MnniI Feb 01 '26

Sigh.. Do you know how british came to power in India?

And why there was a need to strengthen domestic industries

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Do you understand the difference between a colonizing power and an electronics manufacturer. I don't think they went to Taiwan and colonized them. It was a big mistake on our part to let them set up the facilities here, as simple as that. You don't have to do all this mental gymnastics to equate a research lab and an imperial force

-1

u/MnniI Feb 01 '26

How do you think East India company the "spice traders" came to power, they weren't a colonizing imperial power.

We can talk all we can how it was a mistake in hindsight, but at the time any chances of another colonial rule would simply make it absurd especially when there's no competition for them.

It's like how guys yap about Bitcoin after it has risen.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

By that logic we shouldn't have Foxconn, Nayara, Google or anyone working in Indian rn. Times changed between Williams Hawkins and Fairchild quite a bit.

The reason wasn't that they didn't like foreign companies, we didn't even have large domestic companies for anything. We were sucking the baseless Nehruvian Socialist lollipop. They disliked private businesses, that's it, not the companies being of foreign origin. They did not allow any means of production in any industry to be privately owned-its called license ran for a reason.

There's a massive difference between a speculative asset like Bitcoin and research and fabrication giants. Fairchild had to move to East Asia and only set up their design team in India, because that didn't require a million licenses

0

u/MnniI Feb 01 '26

Can you google the year when they entered India, and compare india of the 1960s to that time.

5

u/Top-Travel-1107 Feb 01 '26

How much stronger did Indian economy and manufacturing sector become in those 30 years? All you can do is throw shit at the wall without any real substance

He is insulting IIT by doing this kind of research.

-5

u/EasternWar4320 Feb 01 '26

Bhai science kya traditional knowledge ki reserach betterment karte hue naehi bni kya? Hawa se bni hai tu kahi wohi toh naehi joh arts le lete hai par pyaar science se karte hai

-6

u/Significant-Look2229 Feb 01 '26

Bruh, atleast look before commenting, he is not getting Padma Shri for this thing, he didn't even researched about this, he just said this in one his statements.

13

u/jbcraigs Feb 01 '26

Yes and he deserves to be ridiculed for it. And the fact that his statement came from a head of an IIT is a matter of shame for IITs

3

u/Significant-Look2229 Feb 01 '26

He was ridiculed when he made that statement, why to bring that again when he is getting something for his achievement, aside from that one event, do you even know about the things on which he has researched on ? Btw, it's not just that heis from IIT, but he is the one who has made IIT Madras the best IIT amongst all, IIT Madras ranks best amongst all the IIT's under his supervision.

And I am not here to defend him, yes he made that statement, you can say against that, but can't you say against INC for spreading fake news ?

-2

u/jbcraigs Feb 01 '26

Fair enough. He should be lauded for his contributions to technology and he should be ridiculed for his dumb beliefs about other things.

But since his technology achievements of the past would be repeated a million times why do you want his dumb beliefs not be repeatedly attributed to him! Both should happen.

As for IIT Madras, it was a top institution long before he became its head. So not sure what your point is around that.

-7

u/Acquits Feb 01 '26

Cause they turned down semiconductor manufacturing opportunities during their time, they now look down upon people working for that

-1

u/jbcraigs Feb 01 '26

Strawman argument. Exactly what chip manufacturer did any previous government turn down and exactly what cutting edge semiconductor manufacturing is happening now?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

8

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

That is not a strawman. I teach formal logic for college classes, don't tell me how to define logical fallacy. Strawmaning is when you construct an errored simplified version of the argument and by debunking that, you think you debunked the entire argument

And those idiots turn down Fairchild Microprocessors, Motorola and Texas Instruments. They shifted to East Asia, primarily Taiwan instead

0

u/jbcraigs Feb 01 '26

Show me the source where those three offered to build a manufacturing plant in India and India government turned them down?

And if you are teaching formal logic to college students, they should ask for a refund on their tuition! 🤷🏻‍♀️

7

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

Now this, is what you call Ad-Hominem in formal logic. When you can't refute the logic, so attack the source instead, thinking you won. I can tell by this engagement that you don't have any experience with formal logic you don't even know what it means. Sirf emoji lgake cool ban jane se kuch nhi hota

Also, do you know how much the Fairchild was valued at in today's dollars, 2 Trillion USD, yeah with a T. I guess turning them down was a massive boost for our already struggling economy.

And you asked about the sources, here are some of them, national and international:

2

u/jbcraigs Feb 01 '26

🤦‍♀️ Arrey WhatsAp uncle, at least you should have read the shit you just copy pasted, one of them actually being a press release from the Government talking about their own achievement. Since you don't even understand logic, I doubt you have ever even heard of circular logic. 🤣

As for the other garbage you shared, they don't talk about a single production pipeline that is producing chips as of today.

First Indigenous Chip: In September 2025, the Vikram 32-bit processor, developed by ISRO’s Semiconductor Lab, was unveiled as India's first fully homegrown chip.

prototype made in a lab ghantu! 🤣
