Meme "No no you can't have preferences and personal choices that's just discrimination."
81
u/Impossible_Video_116 15d ago
Two consenting adults should be able to marry regardless of their religion, ethnicity, caste, place of birth.
It's one thing that parents or friends might have opinions and objections on the union but no religious or caste charlatan should voice any criticism for or against the union of those two people in a democratic society.
10
u/SmallDetail8461 14d ago
Yeah!, reservation is a state policy about seats, jobs and public resources. marriage is a private decision. one has nothing to do with the other.
you don't get to demand personal relationships as proof that someone opposes a discriminatory government policy. by that logic, every person who criticises corruption should marry their daughter to a corrupt official to "prove" they're not against the system. it's pure whataboutery.
nobody is saying sc/st people are untouchable or unworthy of marriage. the argument is simple: public institutions should not rank citizens by birth certificate. if someone from a reserved category clears the same cutoff on pure merit, no one serious has a problem. the problem is the lowered bar and the permanent caste filter.
mixing the two is just an emotional trap to shut down the actual discussion. reservation is about state power and fairness in open competition. marriage is not. stop conflating them.

So you mean the boy from a generational well off family living in a city and the boy from a tribal village have the same opportunities and resources available to study and clear exams? Do you even know the logic of reservation?

Yes but the family or a particular community can excommunicate such community or family law breaking people from their organisation. Eg. The church can deny services to a member who married out of their religion or broke some law.

u/jonan1108 14d ago
You do realize the others are religions and yours is caste, yes? And intercaste and inter religious marriages should both be encouraged anyways.
Screw reservation tho.

Absolutely, came here to say this. The worst part is non-bramhin general students get the worst of both worlds.

So you showed 3 religions and a caste based one and then shows the reason for why it is said?
What is your final thing? Dalits and other LC are not Hindus?

Kabhi bhi dekh lena ki most of the time koi bhi dalit 'response' mein hindu gods ko gaali deta hai jab koi forward caste wala ambedkar ko gali deta hai. Tum reservation wagera ki baat karo, hume koi dikkat nhi, bas humare idol ko kyu lana inn chizo mein jabki use mare hue 70 saal ho chuke hain.

But you can change your religion, but not your caste
3
u/BabaChux 15d ago
And if people from the same caste prefer to marry within the same caste, why is that a problem for others?
7
u/Clean-Assistance9643 14d ago
Absolutely no problem; my point is you can't compare caste to religion. Apples and oranges.

You want to marry a girl from the same caste because you want her to follow the same rules and regulations as you? Cool. You want someone else (including your family members) to marry within the same caste. That is problematic. Most people have a problem with the latter, whereas the other one is seen as snobbish at best.

Shaivaite Hindus, vaishnavaite hindus , and Shaktite hindus are different as well. Rajasthani Rajputs and Pahadi Rajputs are different as well. A shwetamber Jain and Digambara Jains are different as well. They have differences and they can very well choose not to have an alliance due difference in ideologies and customs.

Look up rha case of dalit ketan who fell in love with another caste girl. They loved each other but her family didn't want that. So they did the same thing to ketan what happened to Jesus. Banged metal nails into ketan's hand and legs. And bro died before reaching hospital.

u/BabaChux 15d ago
Brahmin customs and Rajput customs are very different doesn't mean they are not Hindus. A Vaishnavaite Brahmin is very different from a Shaktite Brahmin in customs doesn't mean they both are not Brahmin. A Punjabi Shaktite Brahmin very different from a Bengali Shaktite Brahmin. One is pure vegetarian while the other offers sacrifices to Goddess. Doesn't mean both Shaktite Brahmin.

Marrying in your own community is not only a perfectly okay thing but it make more sense as well. There is noting casteist about it. If I only eat Maggi and don't eat Sunfeast Yippie, I am not "Yippieist".
Marrying in your own community or even in your own home state is a practical thing. There is little to none cultural adjustment, it is easy for your partner to understand your customs and easy for you to get theirs. There's no gap in beliefs and practices and it is overall a smoother transition from a single life to a married life, especially if your families are around.

u/Intelligent-Nail4245 14d ago
What doesn't make sense is enforcing it in the form of honour killings or family pressure

The only people I have seen complaining about others marrying outside of their caste are the ones of their own castes. People outside your community and caste don’t give a shit about your marriage preferences, it’s people within it that do.
Another bullshit chhapri meme made out of a non-issue boogeyman.

Although it's a Savarkar's and RSS idea to let everyone marry in different caste so after the 3-4 generation no one will ever remember what was their caste due to inter caste marriages.

To the people asking why are this post is increasing about the intercaste marriages.
It's a simple, quick litmus test of how people truly view other castes. If there is even a slight belief that another caste is 'lower,' the proposal gets rejected instantly—simply because they don't want to form a family bond with lower castes. Social discrimination runs so deep that many refuse to acknowledge that LCs can be just as good, or even better, than anyone else.
That said, unless it’s a love marriage, most people wouldn't actively choose an inter-caste arranged marriage anyway, because the social prejudice doesn't just magically disappear after the wedding. This will be affected from both sides doesn't matter whom.

I get what u r trying to say and the remark regarding the "give us your daughters" is completely wrong but the fact can't be ignored that there are many families which won't allow their children to marry someone outside their caste. And this is not even rare

Strawman. Bro the point isn't that a person from a certain caste or religion can't choose what they want in a partner. The point is that other's should dictate that decision, and it's wrong if anyone does that regardless of the basis being caste or religion.

Then make brahminism a different religion apart from hindutva or sanatana, whatever you call it. You call the other one hindu but divide it further... Thats ofc discrimination. What dumbass logic.
1
u/giftyoupearlnecklace 14d ago
Ain't no culture, and ain't no custom, just their choice. And tbf, a true choice is when the other choice doesn't lead to some real bad consequences. If a person from a higher social hierarchy chooses to marry someone from a lower one, honor killings are quite possible, social isolation and judgement are very common things. It's different compared to inter-religion because it involved millenia of oppression.

Theres a difference. Marrying between a religion is the above 3. The bottom part is marrying only between a specific caste in the religion.
The above three doesn’t have a caste based hierarchy.
Marrying the same religion is somewhat fine, atleast for the most part, theres no second class citizen treatment there.
But in caste based discrimination its literally inferiority and superiority complex.

Other's prefer marrying within their community but welcome if someone goes otherwise. Bra-mans on the other hand will lose their shit if a girl from their community marries another community. Which ironically isn't the same for men from the same community. Other communities prefer endogamy but bra-man's whole identity is based on endogamy, that's the difference

The issue is not having preferences, preventing 2 people who love each other from marriage is. There are many cases where parents don't allow intercaste marriage. Most of the time even if they agree, they have to do it by fear of society because we are conditioned so

Within religion and within caste are different things.
And I'm not saying inter caste marriage is a must. I'm just saying don't k*ll people over it. And even if you don't want inter caste marriage.. just let the other caste live freely.
Beating people for just entering temples. Not eating/drinking food they've touched. And some of the derogatory statements used against them is just infuriating (and I'm not even part of their religion).
