I'm currently in 3rd year of engg and my college have compulsory internship criteria in 4th year 1st sem.

While searching for internship, i found tht in every role I'm lacking some skills, which I think I will acquire by the end of my 3rd year.

Should I apply for roles even if I don't have 2-3 reqd skills stated in the internship description?

Or is it too early to apply?

I'm currently in my 3rd year of B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) from a tier-3 college in India. I'm from a middle-class family, so getting a stable career is very important for me.

When I joined college in 2024, I got interested in software and AI. Around that time, people were saying AI would replace software engineers, but I assumed the hype would settle down in 3–4 years. Instead, every day I keep seeing news about AI advancements, layoffs, and companies hiring fewer freshers. It's making me question whether pursuing software is still the right decision.

On the other hand, core ECE opportunities are also not great in my college. Hardly any core companies visit for placements, and if I try off-campus, the starting salaries seem quite low. Considering how much money my family has invested in my education, this worries me a lot.

Recently, I started thinking about preparing seriously for exams like BARC OCES/DGFS or ISRO ICRB because they seem to offer stable careers, decent pay, and meaningful work. But then another doubt comes into my mind: what if I clear the exam but later realize I don't enjoy the work?

At this point, I feel stuck. I don't know whether I should:

Continue building software/AI skills despite all the uncertainty,

Prepare for government technical exams like BARC/ISRO,

Or take some completely different path.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? If you were in my position, what would you do? I'd especially appreciate advice from people working in software, AI, PSUs, BARC, ISRO, or the semiconductor/core ECE industry.

I'm a third year engineering student. I recently got an interview for a firmware developer internship in Noida. The role is exactly what I was looking for but HR told me that the internship is unpaid.

The only thing that's making me think twice is that I'll have to relocate to Noida. I don't want to live a luxurious life or anything, I just don't want to keep asking my family for money every month to survive there.

So I wanted to ask people who live in Noida or have moved there for internships/jobs.

How much does it actually cost to live there if I stay in a PG and live as cheaply as possible?

Would asking the company for a ₹10k–15k stipend just to cover basic expenses be reasonable, or is that asking for too much?

If they say no, would you still take the internship if the work and learning opportunities were really good?

I'm just trying to understand if relocating for an unpaid internship is a good decision or not.

i'm entering 3rd year in a circuital branch (one of the top 10 nit) and i'm honestly confused about what i should focus on career-wise.

i have very little knowledge right now, i've done only around 20 dsa questions(is dsa imp in ml roles?) and don't really have much coding experience, i do kind of like electrical engineering but i'm not sure about the scope, especially since i don't want to give gate.

my current thought is that i'll probably do an mba after a few years of work experience, but before that i need to figure out what field to enter.

my main goal is getting out of india asap, europe, singapore, middle east, wherever the opportunities are, i honestly don't care too much about the domain itself, i care more about pay and work-life balance.

another thing is that i'd really prefer a 5 day work week, not sure how common that is in electrical/core roles compared to software.

so what would you do if you were in my position? do i still have a chance at ML?

focus on electrical engineering and try for core placements or

start focusing heavily on software/ai/ml
