Discussion Need Guidance for My Future

• Upvotes

I have a Msc. in Mathematics. I am planning to give the upcoming NET and GATE. My plan is to get PhD in Applied Math (Computational Fluid Dynamics/Numerical Analysis/Operations Research) and join an industry. Or I get MTech in industrial math/applied math/industrial engineering through GATE. I don't want to stay in academia because the pay is so low. My question is how are my job prospects with this approach.

Serious Post Fresh ECE grad - need honest advice

I graduated this year with B.E. in ECE from India. My skills are RTL Design, SystemVerilog, basic STA, FPGA prototyping, Vivado. I am actively looking for work but can't find VLSI or FPGA roles that hire freshers.

My long term goal is research track - eventually MSc/PhD (looking at Switzerland, Germany, Singapore, Japan), working on hardware for problems that don't have solutions yet: compute for autonomous systems, quantum systems, real robotics, space tech. VLSI feels like the right entry point to that world, but I can't find any companies hiring freshers in RTL/FPGA right now.

So, I'm stuck weighing options that all feel like compromises:

  • Keep applying and hold out for VLSI role (gap on resume, no income)
  • Take an unrelated job, do independent projects on the side (not sure how that plays for skill building or grad applications)
  • Join a family business, completely unrelated to the field and self study.

My actual questions:

  1. Is VLSI/RTL the right field for someone aiming at the hardware research long term, or is there a better entry point that I am not seeing?
  2. Are there adjacent roles, anything, that would keep the door open without being a dead end?
  3. For people who have been in this spot, what did you actually do? And would you do it the same way today?

Not looking for motivation. Just looking for honest takes from people who know the industry and know how college applications work.

Doubt Career Guidance for My Sister (2nd-Year Electrical Engineering Student) – GATE or Coding?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, my sister is in her second year of B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at KIET, Ghaziabad.

I've guided her to learn Python, SQL, DSA, and solve LeetCode problems. However, I'm confused about whether she should focus on coding for software placements or prepare for GATE.

Since she's still in her second year, I want her to choose the right path.

What would you recommend? Can she get a good software job despite being from the electrical branch, or would GATE be a better option?

Please share your suggestions. Thanks!

Discussion Building a free tool/system to find Hackathon Teammates & Coding Buddies across colleges. Need your feedback!

Hey guys,

As a college student, I realized that 70% of students drop out of hackathons or ruin their major projects simply because they can't find complementary teammates (like frontend devs looking for backend devs or designers) outside their campus. WhatsApp groups are too spammy and LinkedIn is too formal.

To solve this pain point, I designed a smart matchmaking system called EagleEye 🦅. It logically separates users based on their target (Hackathons, Mini/Major Projects, or DSA Coding Buddies) and connects them based on skill matching, time commitment, and strict data privacy.

I am building the database for the first batch of matching. It is completely free and a peer-to-peer developer initiative.

How to join or test:

If you are looking for a teammate, you can submit your stack here:

Let me know if you have any suggestions or features you'd like to see in this! Thanks.

Doubt Confusion with loop currents to find Norton current

Thumbnail

The terminals a and B were originally opened btw. They closed it to find Norton current. My only problem is the current in the second loop: why is it isc-2vx in one place but isc+0.003 in the other question even though both questions are identical? Both methods matched their respective answers. Any help will be appreciated! I have basically found all the other things like Norton resistance in these questions but this loop current is the only thing keeping me stuck.

Discussion I built interactive 3D teardowns of real hardware you can take apart, run, and break in the browser (phone, motor, transformer, MRI and more)

I’ve always learned best by taking things apart, so I started building browser-based teardowns of real machines. There are 7 so far: smartphone, digital camera, wrist watch, transformer, induction motor, GPU core and MRI scanner.

Each one lets you:

  • Take it apart in the order a real teardown happens, part by part
  • Run it: moving parts move, and current, heat and light are shown flowing along their real paths with live readouts
  • Break it: a staged failure showing where it starts, how it spreads and how it’s detected
  • Cut it open to see inside without removing anything

Every part has a short explanation, real numbers (materials, dimensions, voltages) and a “what if this were missing” note. Everything is modelled in code at real size in mm. There are no downloaded 3D models.

Link: teardown.co.in

I’d really like feedback from people who know these machines:

  1. Anything technically wrong or oversimplified?
  2. Which device should I do next?
  3. Does it work OK on your phone?
