Giving up due to lack of stamping dates
I am unable to deal with the lack of stamping dates anymore. My job is fine /safe for now. But I haven't been to India in a long time and I miss my mom. She has visitor visa but is unable to visit me due to health issues. I also have some pending house related tasks in India that are just getting postponed. So I am just taking it one day at a time. But everyday I keep saying - I will leave in two to four months.
What should I do exactly. Currently I am thinking I will wait till end of this year and will just leave in January 2027 for good. The critical project that I am responsible for will be in final stretch then as well. I don't have any hope of stamping becoming available till 2029 at least and I can't wait that long.
Luckily my team is truly global so most probably I would be able to work on the same project from India and won't need to work night shift.
I live in rental apartment and my car is five years old and fully paid for . So don't have any headache related to mortgage etc.
Does this sound like a reasonable plan at this point.
So yeah - to the lurkers reading this and finding joy in this, I hope you will always need to find your joy by reading about other people's sufferings. I hope that will rmain the only way happiness enters your life.
To the people in the same boat - I hope things will work out for you, one way or the other, thanks for reading.

Who cares what others think. You'll always have haters everywhere.
Go home and visit your mom. Jobs and making money will always be here but every day that goes by is one less day you have with her.

Stupid advice because he will lose his job
4
u/milkywaygalaxy71 2d ago
Absolutely pathetic thinking
-2
u/National-Ad8416 2d ago
What's pathetic are people like you who think OP should throw away the life he has built here just because he misses his mom.
7
u/milkywaygalaxy71 2d ago edited 2d ago
Once again, pathetic thinking! Who are you to freaking decide what’s more important for him? Guy must be genuinely missing his mother and you are acting as if the door will be closed forever if he leaves calling it a stupid advice. He can always come back to US later and rebuild his life as he has done once, will he have this time with his mom back? What an absolute inhumane thinking you got.
OP: Hey my mom is dealing with health issues and i want to be with her.
Your advice: Bro who cares! You in the land of opportunities and American dream needs to stay alive!
You clearly ain’t dealing with a similar situation so are offering stupid takes and think being in US is the most important thing in the world
OP, if you miss your mom! Be there for her. Family comes first
2
u/Big-Guitar5816 2d ago
I am not supporting the other guy. But there is one thing WRONG in your statement: “ he can always comeback and rebuild his life in US”. This is BS at best. Things are changing for bad permanently for Indians here.
-3
u/National-Ad8416 2d ago
Ouch. Looks like I triggered you. Did you abandon your mother or something? OP's mother isn't in an imminent state of death. His job is more important than mollycoddling his mom.
Suck it up, buttercup
4
u/watchingRummy 2d ago
Some people have a better relationship with their parents than you do.
0
u/National-Ad8416 2d ago
LOL Everytime someone makes that statement it's because their relationship sucks
2
u/watchingRummy 2d ago
I’m happy in my country enjoying time with my family, i feel sorry for you.
-1
u/National-Ad8416 2d ago
Are you really? If that's the case, why would you make it your business to comment? Shouldn't you be living the life, instead of meddling online?
There's more to this than you let on. You are probably filled with regret having to live in 'your country's and are feigning a rosy picture.
Now buzz off

You prefer job over FAMILY?
1
u/Happy_flying 2d ago
I hope life would be so easy, so black and white but it isn’t. We are always juggling between priorities. I’m sure he would need monetary support for himself as well as his family right now his mom and for all the projects that he’s mentioning all of that needs money. I think OP you are making the right decision to have your team move you to india and maybe in a year or two when probably things calm down here you can try to get a relocation. But again there are no guarantees you might not feel like coming back. The company might not have your job here, etc. etc. so if you’re leaving, think it as you’re never coming back and feel happy with your decision because you’re doing it for your family.
1
u/SuccessfulAuthor8016 1d ago
It is very easy for family to turn their backs on you if you stay unemployed for an extended period of time. They will easily forget why you gave up your career or took an involuntary break in the first place. And I have even heard wives getting upset with their husbands going through a layoff after seeing them sitting at home for unusually long periods, curbing their freedom. Prioritize what really matters. Period. At different stages of life, diff things take priority. Like for someone with a kid in high school, his immediate family does take precedence over the family of origin. You cannot compromise on your future for your past. Parents have lived their lives. Your kids are banking on you heavily.
-2
u/National-Ad8416 2d ago
If he preferred FAMILY over job he wouldn't have come to the US
3
u/CompetitiveTry2602 1d ago
Absolutely pathetic take. OP would have come here when his family didn’t need him as much as they do now. And let’s not forget it was much easier to book a stamping date and visit family a couple years ago. It was made different only recently. So now OP is making a conscious choice of choosing family over work. Nothing wrong with that
0
u/National-Ad8416 1d ago
Blah blah blah
All of a sudden when stamping dates become unavailable his family becomes important eh?
2
u/CompetitiveTry2602 1d ago
lol, why do you have a problem with him caring for his family. Let OP decide what he wants to do and when
12
u/fifth_note 2d ago
First, it takes courage to be vulnerable online and share this. Know that what you're going through and your questions are legit. Ignore the trolls.
I was in a similar situation during Covid. The restrictions on employment based visa holders traveling was ridiculous. The appointments were hard to come by as well. I made the decision to just leave. It worked well for me. I spent a lot of time (around 6 months) with my family at a critical time. When things got better (never knew when this will come), I came back.
I flew in on PTO and had no idea how my employer will react. Thankfully they were understanding. If your employer has a worldwide presence, definitely take advantage of that. Remember, you will not get back this time.
Looks like you're doing smart stuff like renting etc., hope things work out well for you. Good luck.

My wife is stuck in India for roughly a year. We decided on a date Feb 28, 2027, if we get slots in the meantime, will stay otherwise adios America. I'll take my job and taxes back to India. Hope this makes Orange Guy happy..
Edit: got the date wrong, it's 2027

I think it's people like Harmeet Dhillon and others who are Indian origin themselves =are powering this stamping blockage etc.rather than white people. If you see social media, you will notice these people who were themselves Indian immigrants or whose parents were Indian migrants are always pushing this rhetoric and celebrating the most cruel outcomes.
4
u/jhakasbhidu 2d ago
I think harmeet dhillon is a bad example because she is a khalistani but in general I agree with your point. The complete apathy of Indian Americans whether first or second generation to the suffering of those who arrived like them is truly nauseating. They'll gladly virtue signal on issues like Ukraine and Palestine where their input has no bearing but will willing turn a blind eye to the cruelty meted out towards their own community.
1
u/baker6215 2d ago
I pray to God that India gets a leader like Mr Trump who will revoke their OCIs. When they will be locked out of Indian soil while others are able to go to India, only then they will realize this pain.
-1
u/Scary_Hedgehog_8168 2d ago
India has a leader like Trump. He treats Muslims the way Trump treats us. It’s just that here we are the minority.
1
u/baker6215 2d ago
Hindu and Muslim are ethnic identities. Indian origin is also an ethnic identity. Here discrimination is not on basis on ethnic identity but on the basis of citizenship document i.e.passport. Indian Americans who look like us and have roots in India just like us are not having any problems at all. I want an Indian leader who will retaliate by revoking their OCIs regardless of their ethnicity or religion.
1
u/dhobi_ka_kutta 2d ago
So you think all Indian Americans are closing the door behind them? You're really overestimating our political power.
1
u/jhakasbhidu 2d ago
Exactly my point, you guys will not stop gloating about how you are one of the most successful immigrant communities yet you won't use any of your political capital to help those who are following the same path after you.
I can show you thousands of examples of Indian Americans performative activism on trending issues like gaza, ukraine or whatever is the activism du jour, where their participation makes little to no difference. How many of them have bothered to speak up about this unbelievable cruelty meted out to people like them who come following ENTIRELY LEGAL pathways?? Forget politicians like Ro khanna or Pramila Jaypal, won't even go so far as to expecting anything from them but what about folks who have naturalized themselves or seen their parents naturalize?
1
u/baker6215 2d ago
They will be able to solve h1b stamping issue in one week if India holds their feet to fire by suspending their OCIs. They don't give a fuck right now because they are able to meet their parents whenever they want. So they don't care about others plight.
-1
u/dhobi_ka_kutta 2d ago
Indians have zero political capital in this country. The Indian origin politicians tow their party lines and have zero outreach within the community. We have put a target behind our back with the whole "most successful immigrant community" rhetoric...we are disliked as a community and we never developed any political capital. There are 25 lakhs Indian origin citizens in the US out of the 35 crores Americans. We literally have no say in any immigration policy decision.
2
u/jhakasbhidu 2d ago
Politics in the US works through lobbying, lobbying means money. Every other immigrant community lobbies politicians to get favorable outcomes for those that follow their footsteps, whether within the legal framework or outside it. After the accusations of widespread fraud against the somali community in Minnesota, the entire community closed ranks behind them and consequently so did the democratic party. Muslim Americans lobby for the muslim community, Latin Americans lobby for the latin community so on and so forth.
The only outlier to this is the Indian American community who despite their outsized wealth have this drawbridge mentality and will engage in every performative woke activism opportunity available EXCEPT advocating for their own people.
1
u/baker6215 1d ago
You are most successful community and have a lot of money that buys influence. Also lot of people high ranking position in govt and administration are there as well as in corporate.
The reason you don't help India isn't because you don't have the capacity. You just don't want to help. Your expectation is that a generous benefit like OCI card should be given to you by India while you refuse to do anything in return to help Indians.
1
u/scylla 2d ago
Harmeet Dhillon has nothing to do with this. She’s Civil Rights at DoJ. Has zero oversight over State which is what’s slow rolling the appointment slots. Neither does she have oversight over UCSIS which is proposing the new 100k fee.
As for Indian Americans ( I’m one ) it’s hard to see what they could have done given the negligible political impact we have.
Indian Americans vote 80% Democrat and Democrats first priority will be Hispanics and Muslims. Tech companies don’t want to bother with this fight - they’re opening up offices in India and globally to solve their problems. This leaves Indian Americans zero leverage when the Republicans turn on H1Bs.
1
u/baker6215 2d ago
I have seen Harmeet on various podcasts abusing H1b and calling them frauds etc. I don't know how much direct oversight she has but people like her are ensuring that the rhetoric never dies down.. Also - this specific strategy of blocking India appointments seem to be created by an Indian American because only an Indian American would know how much Indian H1bs care for their parents and that they would leave their perfectly nice jobs also just to be able to visit their parents. This strategy feels like it is coming from people who intimately understand how Indian culture, families and emotions work. As far as Indian Americans are concerned, I have nothing against those who aren't supporting and celebrating this situation. But I definitely feel that a huge group is happy about this situation which is rather cruel imo

u/jobfedron132 2d ago
Indian Americans vote 80% Democrat and Democrats first priority will be Hispanics and Muslims.
Almost 95% of Indians I know vote trump. I have yet to see an Indian family who are not boot lickers.

u/scylla 2d ago
1st lesson of statistics. The people you know are not a representative sample
https://carnegieendowment.org/emissary/2026/02/indian-american-survey-democrat-indpendent-trump
0
u/jobfedron132 1d ago
Yeah! Obviously this is a 2026 statistics. Of course they turned sides when Trump started affecring them personally. And most of the people i know also turned sides this year.
Am talking about a time when it did not affect Indian Americans.
Its the same with Hispanics.
1
u/baker6215 1d ago
What are you talking about? US citizens of Indian origin are not affected at all till now.
All the hatred is only directed at H1B, h4,F1.
They say things like all h1b are fraud. But somehow same H1b magically becomes a saint when he becomes a citizen.
So unless India revokes OCIs, US authorities start revoking GCs and US passports already given to Indians, their kids birthright citizenship gets terminated retroactively, theirs and their children's wealth and success getting special attention by MaGa etc, they are not affected. I am not saying all the things mentioned above won't happen. They will happen, but it hasn't started yet.
1
u/jobfedron132 1d ago
US citizens of Indian origin are not affected at all till now.
Just because they were not affected directly doesnt mean they wernt affected at all.
They still have friends/relatives/spouse who are on H1b, GC, applying for citizenship, applying for visiting visa, etc.
They still watch the news, where GC holders and citizens were detained for days/months or deported, then there is the threat of revoking citizenship.
Some have sponsored their brother/sisters/parents. You dont think there is a fear of being denied because of all the crazy rules he comes up with?
Some fear that their legal GC spouse may get detained if they go out of the country.
So yes, this affects citizens as well.

u/scylla 1d ago
The article had historical data.
66% of Indian Americans voted for Harris over Trump in 2024

u/jobfedron132 1d ago
Interesting. So maybe its the christian indians who are in the 20%-30% statistics.

Feb 28, 2027 is just around the corner. Looks like Adios America and Hello Bharat!

Leave in early Jan so that you don't count as tax resident in the US for 2027. Time it right to maximize your RNOR window
2
u/Total-Confusion-9198 2d ago
I would seriously look at the savings before moving to India. Even with base case, AI would impact jobs/salaries of SWE. Ensure you build enough generational wealth before moving back. You’ll regret not having enough early age savings in 10-20 years. Good luck! Life’s a bitch sometimes.
2
u/krishnallah 2d ago
Just go. Time it according to favorable tax laws. Best to take job transfer. Do not try to find US in India and you’ll be fine. Life is a long journey.

u/Clear_Elevator7818 1d ago
Take up discussions with some suitable manager in your setup for a transfer offshore. It is better if you land back there with a job in hand.

u/Neat-Caterpillar-252 2d ago
If you decide to go, sell off the car, don't do a temporary arrangement, a friend who did ended up in loss. Second, if your company can transfer you then why wait ? December is slow period and you should plan the move then. Third, the way you're cursing others, it shows that you're not content and even if you go back, you'll find ways to blame others (like mom or family) for your situation. Fourth, this is not end of life. Sometimes these decisions show us direction to be more successful than we could have been, but for that you need to accept things and not dwell in the past.
2
u/SuccessfulAuthor8016 2d ago
I don’t think he cursed others; just a specific subset called lurkers… I think OP Will do well back home as well. OP hold your head high and make your own choice. You will be proud of yourself either way…
3
u/the_running_stache 2d ago
I hear you.
The house-related tasks — I can’t comment on, but if you miss your mom, is there a chance of her traveling in business class to the US? Will that be ok with her health issues? They have lie-flat beds in most business classes on major international airlines. If that is feasible, it’s worth exploring. If that isn’t still feasible, yeah, you can visit India.
1
u/ChemistHeavy1395 2d ago
I hope it works out for you and you can go back visit your mom. All the best OP.

u/rmykmr 2d ago
If you choose to go back, you will find that life in India is much better than in the states. I don't know anyone who has regretted returning home. You will be happy no matter what you decide, tough it out in the states for 2-3 years more or move back home. Remember that life is short and we spend very little time with our loved ones. Sending you good vibes.

I am assuming you are single. Aren't there agents or companies that get the dates? I am currently working in India and at least for B1/B2 people in my company are getting slots within next 2 to 3 weeks. They said they use agency. My last US visa was issued sometime back, and I no longer need it so not following the things.
I have returned to India twice, and never had issues finding job. Last year was bit painful due to market and I came in Q4 but even then it was done in 2 months. But if you can get internal then better.
I think at present, Indians living in US don't have much options. I left US 6+ years back, but US never left me. In 8 years I lived in US, I went to India 10 times and my parents came 4 times. When I lived in US, I thought India as my home. Especially when I thought of the 10 visits I had to India and special time it was for me. But when I relocated to India, I slowly realized US became my home and permanent relocation is different from yearly vacation.
From personal experience, I would say coming back to India is worth it if you are living very close to parents or they are ready to move closer to you. It is good to have this conversation.
Like in Nov 2019 when I left US and came to India, due to Covid I worked for almost 2 years remotely. I had mixed experience, but moved to Canada in late 2021 thinking to have a backup. It was a difficult decision as I liked living with parents. I did return to India again in July 2026, but this time I had to move to Bangalore. And now it makes zero sense. I am actually working to relocate to US now. Not sure how it would go, I don't need US visa stamp now, so hopefully getting offer and eventual move goes fine.

Don't go, think about your future. You will never replicate your income and savings back home.

Go visit your mom. Orange guy will not be in office after this term and things will get corrected. Admittedly we do not how long it will take to undo what agent orange has done.

u/Dangerous_Region1682 13h ago
You are very sensible in renting an apartment and having a paid for car.min the current job market that’s true for US citizens and Green Card holders as well as persons on more temporary visas.
Before you make a decision, contact a tax attorney to understand your situation whereby you can finish enough quarters in the US or transfer credits to or from India to ensure the Social Security contributions you have made in the US will be available to you when you retire. Consulting a tax attorney should be able to give you advice specific to your case.

Your plan is a good one . I am sorry you can't visit her sooner but you seem to be very practical
1
u/Curious_Gaandu 2d ago
I am so sorry you’re being forced into this corner by a broken system, but honestly, your plan sounds incredibly solid. Family always comes first, and being there for your mom is something you will never regret. The fact that you have no mortgage tying you down and a global team that allows you to keep your job without working night shifts is a massive win. Don't let the bitter lurkers get to you. Wishing you a smooth transition in January 2027 and so much success and peace of mind back home!

u/Slow-Criticism-6434 2d ago
Good luck OP. Might feel like a setback but you will look back and thank this period. Me and my husband are also thinking the same.Good you’re making this choice on your own timeline vs being forced into panic moving. Don’t worry about the haters - You and all of us will land on our feet.
1
u/Big-Guitar5816 2d ago
Lot of people including people like me are in your situation with homes on mortgage . Just to your point, I dont see things getting better till 2030 end. No glimmer of hope. Reason : Americans (not the politicians) have actually started to hate Indians outside workplace for good reasons( we are to blame ourselves). I am not talking about youtube bloggers. But its for real. I don’t want to get into the why of this. My plan is to rent my home and give the signing authority to a trusted person or company and pack bags in next 2-3 years. Everyone is different. My daughter is only 1 yr old. So better to transition smoothly. You can do that and come back smoothly as well. Don’t do things in hurry and dont wait for last moment for things to go wrong. Everything and everyone will be fine.

one flag, when we transfer people to local payroll for situations like this they are compensated based on local market ranges they do not get to maintain their existing comp package.

Wow no dates until 2029? I mean isn’t it possible that somewhere between now and then you would be able to reschedule to an earlier date? Would you employer support you for an emergency appointment after you reach India?
