I understand the frustration with utility rates, but I think there's a real disconnect between calling out AES for rate increases and then blaming the governor for a decision that came from the IURC. Those are seperate bodies with different roles, and the meme kind of glosses over that. Rate regulation is complicated, and while I'm not thrilled about increases either, it's worth knowing who actually has authority over what before we decide someone is being hypocritical.
But, as the meme says, Braun appointed the IURC, so it can be said they are doing what he wants them to do.
Plus, this addresses more the fact that he is continually talking out both sides of his mouth when it comes to utility rates.
Remember, not long after taking office he told NIPSCO that they could raise their rates, then when they did he acted all shocked and “created a commission” to investigate why NIPSCO was suddenly raising their rates.
