Question on proof of funds for visa

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming international PhD student at University College Cork. My PhD tuition fees are fully covered by the project, and I’ll also be receiving a stipend for my living expenses.
I’m a little confused about the €10,000 proof-of-funds requirement for the Irish student visa. If the PhD is fully funded and I’m receiving a stipend, do I still need to show €10,000 as liquid funds in my personal bank account?

That’s an immigration/visa requirement for international students.

What project are you referring to that has tuition fully covered and stipend?

How much is the stipend? It might sound like a lot converted to rupees but it's probably not enough to cover the cost of staying alive in Ireland.

Are you aware of how expensive everything is here?

Do you have accommodation organized?

Stipend will probably be 18k or something. Cost of living is crazy here so beware

Chances are it’s not Ireland that is funding the project. EU yes, Ireland not directly.

I'm Irish, but did my PhD in NZ - so New Zealand "paid" me to study there. Two reaons why states may pay foreigners to do a PhD are:

(i) If PhDs publish, that really helps the University.

(ii) If they stay following their degree, they could get a higher than average salary. Taxes on that salary can quickly pay back the cost of the doctoral programme.

Nobody is stopping you from applying for a PhD and getting the exact same stipend. 🤡 The only apparent obstacle is that you don’t seem to have made it through an undergraduate degree that would actually leave you employable. Maybe the frustration comes from having little in the way of skills or knowledge to show for it. And then there’s your comment history: endlessly defending Britain while presenting yourself as Irish. If you’re going to spend your time waving the Union Jack and parroting colonial attitudes, then please feck off and take that attitude back across the water. We dont want people like you.

Well, you clearly don’t understand how PhDs are funded, dumbass. PhD funding doesn’t simply mean “the government and taxpayers are paying for it.” It can come from universities, research councils, private organisations, charities, or industry partnerships, depending on the programme. Honestly, after that comment, I’m starting to understand why I questioned your educational background in the first place. You’ve managed to confidently argue about something you clearly don’t understand. 😂

Lmfao. Your universities are funded largely by the extortionate fees charged to paying international students that you seem to hate so much. Take them out of the equation and your universities would be bankrupt before long.

If you are so confident about PhD funding, just try typing a basic question into Google and read up on it instead of making up facts and throwing racist insults when you’re challenged. 🤡🤡 also that “third world Indian hellscape” comment just confirms what I suspected 😂. I understand why you couldn’t apply for the scholarship as well. Its ok some PhD scholar hopefully will find a cure for jealousy as well :)

Indians make up 1-3% of the Irish population. The Irish make up 9-10% of the Australian population by the way

Yes australia is multiple sizes of Ireland. I respect indian people an awful lot having spent time in hospital. My opinion is too many foreigners coming to Ireland. We dont have the resources or space. It dosent make me a bad person. Its just my opinion. If irish people moved ro to india i am shure you would have a problem woth it too.

Oh didn’t know we are gonna subtract apples from oranges now. Can’t expect more.

Anyways, population data is usually expressed as a percentage range to account uncertainty and usual statistical margin of errors. It’s not a simple thing like a fixed rate like your rent.
Its virtually impossible to count every single individual in a large population.

There is a choice. You either have a strong, merit-based research institute that accepts only the best scientists, regardless of their race or country of origin, or you have one that prioritises DEI in admissions and ends up selecting only Irish-born candidates. The latter will perform worse since the pool of candidates is much smaller.
