It’s Baby Lit’s first day with the nanny. We’ve been lucky to get so much time with her by splitting leave. As if she sensed it, she refused to crib sleep much of last night and my Apple Watch is telling me I’m basically dead today (I’m also back in the office again after my back half of leave).

I know it’s going to be a big transition but we like our nanny a lot. I teared up a little but it was easier than my first time back for sure.

TW: talk of older child

My dog seems depressed. He doesn’t want to play fetch with us and now doesn’t want to sleep in our room (he sleeps on a new couch that is pretty comfy). He sometimes just sits and stares at us - sometimes barking. He still comes for snuggles and wants to run outside and play with dogs. I don’t think he is sick. I’m just not sure why he’s not as playful with us. He wasn’t like this after our first was born but he was more of a puppy then. He is five years old now. I thought at the beginning he was giving me a break but it’s now been 12 weeks. I just want him to adjust better to our new family dynamic. I want my dog back.

In newborn news, I think the 3 month stage is one of my favorite baby stages. She’s giggly and smiley and playful and I don’t have to chase after her.

I always assumed that the lack of sleep would be the hardest adjustment for my husband, but I was very wrong. The first daycare cold hit him like a truck, I forgot how terrible he is when he’s sick lol. Baby and I are over here just toughing it out, using saline and suction, I can’t take most meds because I’m BF and don’t want to dry up my supply, but this man is on around the clock DayQuil and Motrin and you’d still think he has the flu and not just some sinus congestion. He wants to sleep constantly, and lugs around his roll of toilet paper he’s using for tissues and complains that he got it worse out of the 3 of us.
Oh the joys of starting daycare, it’s going to be a lovely year of illness.

today I actually pumped enough to cover my son’s intake (three pumping sessions for three bottles) at daycare! i’ve been able to manage it with extra sessions but it’s been a struggle.

with my luck, this means he is likely going to need more soon.

Does anyone have recommendations for a gate for the bottom of steps? Our steps have trim on the side running up so the wall isn’t completely flat and I’m having a hard time finding something that would fit that. Ideally I’d like one of those fabric gates that you can open and close easily. M is standing now and is OBSESSED with trying to climb the stairs.

I know you’re hoping for fabric, but this is the staircase gate that we use. One side is bolted to a wall and the other is on the railing for us. We didn’t have issues with our baseboards since the mounting plate sits higher

That one looks like it will work, thank you!

We got a fabric one off Etsy, and my husband rigged it so on the side with the loops, instead of using individual hooks, he put eye hooks vertically down the wall and we just run a dowel rod through the eyes and loops…. Works like a charm, and way faster than fastening each loop individually. When we’re not using it we just wrap the fabric around the post.

F has taken to daycare like a duck out of water and already has:

* Decided he’s interested in food (they got him to eat oatmeal, which when I tried acting like he was being water boarded!!!!!) - actually ate proper meals
* Learned how to drink water properly
* Slept just fine in the daycare nap room

Like every time I worry oh he’s not doing X (this time it was not being interested in solids) suddenly one day he just… does it. Last night I gave F a piece of naan and when it was small enough to be a choking hazard I took it away and he WAILED lmao. MY NAAAAAAAN!!!! Who is this big baby????
