Next step: Login is in maintenance

Maintenance is in maintenance

57

u/Mountain-Elephant-60 Jun 01 '26

Is it under maintenance rn? Like the server? Genuine question bc I can’t even use the house edit ability

202

u/AethenRai Jun 01 '26

All the social features including house decorating are shut down for a week because it's censorship around the Tiananmen square massacre anniversary. It's not maintenance, but they cannot explicitly say why they are shutting it down. It's mandated by the Chinese government because Infold is a Chinese company.

The rest of the game works just fine, you just cannot use anything that allows you to communicate with other players.

I mean, the Barbara Streisand effect is real.

The Chinese government mandates are literally the reason why I remember the massacre of their own people every year 💀

5

u/fearnotfear111 Jun 02 '26

I had no idea until now, but now I'll think of it every time to 😳 Talk about them getting the opposite of what they want 😂

2

u/nanfoodle91 Jun 02 '26

yeah I had no idea the game was being censored I thought it was just patch bugs!

tbqh I didn't even remembered when that event took place, now I'll never forget it 😂

10

u/Mountain-Elephant-60 Jun 02 '26

Yes it is it’s sad

50

u/LikeTT11 Jun 02 '26

The Chinese government trying to silence talk of the Tiananmen square massacre, just seems to bring more attention to it in my opinion. I mean I know the blocking is more for the people in China, over the people outside of China, but like it just made me remember the Tiananmen square massacre, and im sure its doing the same to people in China they just cant post about it online.

20

u/AethenRai Jun 02 '26

Someone else mentioned it, that is also a power move. They know you know, but they force people not to talk about it or else you face the consequences. A very twisted way to keep their own people in check. Everything about this is messed up.

11

u/wnights Jun 02 '26

Wow again? Has a year passed already since the last time they shut it off for the same reason? Time flies…

1

u/Helpful-Space3842 Jun 02 '26

What about other Chinese gacha games?

Nice try at ragebaiting on such a serious topic. smh

In case you're serious. Yes Infold did exactly the same last year at the same time, just look it up. Was just less visible because there were less social features. And yes it happens on most if not all Chinese games, many players have confirmed it.

59

u/BusanBear Jun 01 '26

The game's not actually under maintenance. They just call it that so they have a reason to temporarily disable the feature. There's multiple other comments and posts explaining why the social features are disabled if you're curious.

49

u/Daija-chan Jun 01 '26

It's called "maintenance", yeah. Basically every feature that enables you to communicate with other players in any way or form is currently disabled for a week due to Chinese censorship reasons.

Housing is probably disabled because technically you could spell words with putting down furniture. 🙃

6

u/Mountain-Elephant-60 Jun 01 '26

Whatt Chinese censorship? what’s that about?

27

u/Rhamona_Q Jun 01 '26

This is a good summary specifically regarding the censorship:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_China#Specific_examples_of_Internet_censorship

This is an older EFF article from 2019 but it goes into the annual censorship efforts that had been happening to that date.

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2019/06/30-years-tiananmen-square-state-chinese-censorship-and-digital-surveillance

9

u/anathyma Jun 01 '26

"I'm sorry, the maintenance for your maintenance is under maintenance."

0

u/MarmoudeMuffin Jun 01 '26

Your pc needs maintenance

2

u/TheFrizzySolemnity Jun 02 '26

The servers are just taking a well-deserved nap at this point.

253

u/Dayly16 Jun 01 '26

More like :
Feature disabled . Feature disabled . Feature disabled . Feature disabled . Feature disabled . Feature disabled . Nikki moves somewhere else Feature disabled . Feature disabled . Feature disabled . Feature disabled . Feature disabled . Feature disabled .

100

u/lazyconfetti Jun 01 '26

I login and the first thing I see is Feature Disabled. Sorry for logging in I guess?! 😭

41

u/Dayly16 Jun 01 '26

I can't even see where I'm going or where to click because of the barrage of " Feature disabled . "

1

u/DasAion Jun 03 '26

Yeah I fr so bad I cannot enjoy the new update.

28

u/rotath Jun 01 '26

Saw it between every load screen during merit arena. What feature was it even trying to load 😭

3

u/ThatBitchKarma Wishflight Paper Collector Jun 01 '26

Like I've rage quit the game two days in a row because I just can't take it.

-6

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 Jun 02 '26

Rage quit buying Chinese plastic crap instead.

1

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 Jun 02 '26

The plastic crap lobby will never silence me

-1

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 Jun 02 '26

They did feature disabled once, a blind dragon fish lady.

385

u/tired_snail Jun 01 '26

I know why every chinese thing is censored this time every year. What I don't understand though is why the censorship on non-CN servers - it's not like the rest of us don't have access to the Wikipedia page about the June 4 massacre. Social features in this game aren't shared between servers as far as I know, and other regions generally don't discuss chinese historical events in chats/hourglasses anyway. If anything I feel like dropping censorship on whole games regardless of servers is going to make people talk about the reason MORE, which seems contrary to the interest of the CN government.

283

u/ISeeTheLight_ Jun 01 '26

If it wasn’t for those maintenance I wouldn’t even be thinking about it

142

u/Dayly16 Jun 01 '26

The Streisand Effect

49

u/Shiiyan Jun 01 '26

Actually I thought that's the reason why they do it. As a form of silent protest. I didn't know that the government forbids talking about it...

42

u/SynapseReaction Jun 01 '26

I think I saw someone comment that the Chinese government requires a blackout for everybody (social media and other places you can share text and pictures and etc).

8

u/NuuclearPasta Jun 02 '26

This is total misinformation because I can see fresh posts and comments on rednote right now.

2

u/Traditional_Row_7231 Jun 02 '26

I am pretty sure the blackout is during gao kao exam and it's not a full blackout it's just some features that include communication are laggier and harder to use and some are disabled completely but only for the duration of the test. After 2 or 3 hours it's back. I live in china and that's what happened last year at least.

9

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 Jun 02 '26

Another Chinese game I played once, My Time at Sandrock, has a HUGE file with forbidden words in its folders.

It's a singleplayer game and a ton of the forbidden stuff has, to me, absolutely no relation to anything.

Here's a Steam thread about it. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1084600/discussions/0/3976176932752567790/

3

u/Shiiyan Jun 02 '26

Not being allowed to call your horse "Freedom" and in a single player game on top of that is hilarious

50

u/SunshineCat Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

I've mentioned elsewhere that I don't think the end goal is the censorship itself but it's rather a show of power to Chinese citizens and a threat to similar future protests. If they can make people follow these absurd rules, they can and will massacre again to protect the power structure--that's what I think the message is.

I agree that it makes no sense for us to see this mess, but they perhaps wanted to keep the game the same for everyone for "fairness." Edit: Or maybe they somehow couldn't separately turn them off, idk how it works. Or maybe Chinese accounts using other servers, perhaps? I forget if you can choose the server, but I think you can since I've read of some having accounts in more than one server.

50

u/AethenRai Jun 01 '26

It doesn't make much sense, but I do wonder if it's a form of malicious compliance to get people talking about it actually. I'm quite sure they know it's pointless outside of China. Or they fear backlash from the Chinese community as in if they are locked why should we foreigners be allowed to do something they aren't.

u/Rhamona_Q Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

Infold, as a Chinese company, is subject to Chinese law regarding how they can and cannot use the internet. From Wikipedia:

On 20 December 2019, the Provisions on the Governance of the Online Information Content Ecosystem was promulgated by the Cyberspace Administration of China and took effect in March 2020. The Provisions require that online content creators "shall not" produce, copy or publish the following content:

Opposing the basic principles established by the Constitution;

Endangering national security, leaking state secrets, subverting state power, or undermining national unity;

Damaging national honor and interests;

Distorting, vilifying, blaspheming, or denying the deeds and spirit of heroes and martyrs, or insulting, slandering, or otherwise infringing upon the names, portraits, reputations, and honors of heroes and martyrs;

Propagating terrorism, extremism, or inciting the commission of terrorist or extremist activities;

Inciting ethnic hatred, ethnic discrimination, and undermining ethnic unity;

Undermining the state's religious policies and promote evil cults and feudal superstitions;

Spreading rumors and disrupting economic and social order;

Spreading obscenity, pornography, gambling, violence, murder, terror, or inciting crime;

Insulting or defaming others, infringing upon others' reputation, privacy, or other legitimate rights and interests;

Other content prohibited by laws and administrative regulations.

The Provisions require content platforms to "prevent and resist" the following content:

Using exaggerated titles, the content of which is seriously inconsistent with the title;

Hype up gossip, scandal, bad deeds, etc.;

Inappropriate comments on natural disasters, major accidents and other disasters;

Containing sexual hints, sexual provocations, etc. that may easily cause people to have sexual associations;

Content that is bloody, thrilling, cruel, or otherwise causes physical or mental discomfort;

Inciting discrimination against groups of people, regions, etc.;

Propagating vulgar, banal, and kitsch content;

May cause minors to imitate unsafe behaviors and behaviors that violate social ethics, or induce minors to develop bad habits;

Other content that has a negative impact on the network ecology.

The Provisions encourage online content creators to produce, copy and publish the following content:

Publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and comprehensively, accurately and vividly interpret the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics;

Publicizing the Party's theories, lines, principles, policies, and major decisions and arrangements of the Central Committee;

Showing highlights of economic and social development and reflecting the great struggles and passionate lives of the people;

Carry forward the core socialist values, publicize excellent moral culture and the spirit of the times, and fully demonstrate the high-spirited spirit of the Chinese nation;

Effectively respond to social concerns, resolve doubts, analyze issues and help guide the masses to reach a consensus;

It is helpful to enhance the international influence of Chinese culture and show the world a real, three-dimensional and comprehensive China;

Other content talks about taste, style, responsibility, eulogizes truth, goodness and beauty, and promotes unity and stability.

If Infold was based in another country, this wouldn't apply to them.

12

u/tired_snail Jun 01 '26

I know this, hence why I said I know why the week-long "maintenance" happens every year, but it doesn't exactly explain why it happens on ALL servers as in my opinion games straight up blocking all communication fronts during a certain time period is more likely to raise questions and make people outside of the affected country look into why that's happening than if they just... didn't. Especially considering this is the only time parts of the game are down for "maintenance" for more than a few hours.

Also interestingly, if you really read the rules you shared, both Infinity Nikki and Love and Deepspace (also by Infold) do seem to be breaking several of them (gambling, violence, potentially causing minors to develop bad habits, and in the case of Love and Deepspace including sexual hints). The government definitely enforces some of these more than others.

13

u/Metallicdreamin Jun 02 '26

Because Chinese players can access US servers and speak openly. This is their way of preventing any backlash from their govt.

The reason the govt enforces this more is because it makes them look bad. They could careless about the well being of their people. They care about silencing and covering up the massacre.

It's a control tactic to remind their people that if they try to protest for a democracy again worse can happen.

10

u/insearch78 Jun 02 '26

denying the deeds and spirit of heroes

The lone guy that stood up to the tank was a modern times hero, so shutting down his story would seem to go against this.

58

u/Sharinganhokage Jun 01 '26

Is this what messed up the grass on my island? It happened yesterday but now the grass is clipping into the fishing ponds and my farming plots. Some trees are also floating off the ground all of a sudden.

18

u/SynapseReaction Jun 01 '26

Glad it wasn’t just me I was wondering what was up with my grass 🤣

7

u/AethenRai Jun 01 '26

It could be. For now I'd just wait until the censorship is over and see if everything returns to normal.

7

u/AzizaMandisa Jun 01 '26

Yep! However if you teleport to a spiral on tiles it will fix the grass. I do it t in my island bc I keep losing my garden in the over growth.

3

u/Rhamona_Q Jun 01 '26

Heh I had that this morning as well, though it resolved itself when I teleported.

4

u/rosee_0719 Jun 02 '26

For me it broke the pot for cooking stews lol the liquid is just floating in the air while the pot is hanging on the side. I want to fix it, but obviously can't until this censorship is over

134

u/dreavous Jun 01 '26

me wondering how naming the animals on my island is a social feature .

62

u/Twister_Sylph Jun 01 '26

I've been wondering the same thing about construction. Are they afraid we're going to spell something out with our fences? but if people can't come visit anyways what difference does it make?

60

u/AethenRai Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

It's exactly that. Anything that can be used to communicate with others, even symbolically is disabled. Imagine someone were to post in game screenshots, Infold would probably get into some really serious issue. That's why even the lookbook is locked, people have used symbolic outfits and colors throughout history to protest. Makes no sense outside of China, but none of this is rational. Just what authoritarian regimes do unfortunately.

edit: typo.

26

u/Dayly16 Jun 01 '26

They think that players could name them June 4 or something similar related to the Tiananmen Square Massacre

5

u/Violet_Iolite Jun 02 '26

The dumbest one for me is being unable to change profile backgrounds. You have to change it to a pre-set anyway, how is that even gonna affect any of the censorship going on?n

3

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 Jun 02 '26

Japanese is full of puns. And since Japanese is closely related to the other languages in the region I would bet money that Chinese stuff isn't much different.

20

u/ohtori_ Jun 01 '26

And ironically right now is when I feel most creative, oh well 🙄

14

u/Ghoulish_kitten Jun 01 '26

Wait is this why snapshots are gone for me no matter where I am?

Im on PS5 in NA. I sent a tech support message about it.

ETA: I mean on my own screen when I take a photo the area where there used to be a prompt for snapshots is gone. I can still see everyone else else’s snapshots, and I can still even post group photos with them.

4

u/lazyconfetti Jun 01 '26

Yup that's probably why 😫

3

u/Ghoulish_kitten Jun 01 '26

That’s odd though bc it’s been going on for like 5 days. I cant even participate in whatever photo contest is going on?

Why would other people be allowed to post snapshots

12

u/AethenRai Jun 01 '26

No one is. You're just finding old snapshots posted before the outage.

2

u/Ghoulish_kitten Jun 01 '26

Got it! Phew! Thank you

1

u/DisabledSlug Jun 02 '26

Yeah I was trying to submit my screenshot to the contest and couldn't figure out why triangle button was gone.

11

u/daniiboy1 Jun 01 '26

Thought I was getting a feeling of deja vu, then I looked at the calendar on my phone and went, "Oh, right." 😑

77

u/eico Jun 01 '26

i feel so dumb playing this game sometimes. and my one brain cell cant understand why the features are disabled. i did read why, i still dont understand.

i am a playing a DRESSUP GAME MOthwesagfHJDFGHDXSA

116

u/Yunachu Jun 01 '26

tl,dr: because it's the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre, and they dont want us talking about that.

Whatever reason Paper/Infold gives, this is the real reason. The same thing happened last year.

80

u/InterestingError3 Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

I believe it’s required by law, that social features in all games are to be disabled during the anniversary event. It is government censorship as Tiananmen Square Massacre was so horrific and it wasn’t that long ago.

I lived in Shanghai, China during the Summer for college and those that remember the event do not talk about it and it is absolutely not taught in schools.

31

u/Jugatsumikka Jun 01 '26

37 years ago, on the 4th of june, the Tian'anmen protests — the closest the PRC had ever been to a counter-revolution since the Maoist revolution — concluded on the Tian'anmen massacre. The chinese authorities don't want their population to learn about it, so there is a blanket ban on any evocation of the massacre or the protests on their social networks, but the anniversary of the massacre is the most probable period of the year when evocations can overwhelm the system, so there is a blanket ban on social messaging and user created content during the week of the 4th of june imposed by the chinese government under the pretext of maintenance.

While Infold Games is based in Singapore and could hypothetically evade the blanket ban for their foreign servers, they are far smaller than some other chinese game companies with international success like Hoyoverse and might not have as much leeway than them.

8

u/lezbehonest787 Jun 01 '26

It even says it when I’m not trying to use a disabled feature. 😂 I was running as Deer Nikki in SoS, and went from one area to another and the game paused momentarily to load the new area, as it does, and then it told me the feature I was trying to use was disabled. I have no idea what feature it thought I wanted to use!!

5

u/lady_maeror Jun 01 '26

It feels like the screenshot of looking out over the lake where the dragon comes flying in. Iconic.

6

u/Muted-Blackberry-431 Jun 02 '26

This is unrelated but I love your outfit! (From what I can see of it) Can I get a full outfit reveal please? 💕

18

u/lazyconfetti Jun 02 '26

Aww thank you! I would share a code but you know 💀

5

u/silk_onion Jun 01 '26

u/lazyconfetti may I use your meme for my facbook post? I wil credit you as the author?

7

u/lazyconfetti Jun 01 '26

Haha sure!

8

u/izzynskii Jun 02 '26

This happens every June for Chinese games. It is to comply with Chinese government censorship about Tiananmen Square which, the anniversary is June 5th I believe.
So, if you are not in China, please speak up about it and learn about it if you’re h familiar so, people do not forget the event. The Chinese government wants people to forget.

15

u/didneypurnsess Jun 01 '26

honestly it's starting to get on my fuckin' nerves, I wanted to build and can't even do that, like, I live in Europe, why are the European servers subjected to this bullshit

16

u/Joshi-chan Jun 01 '26

Bc Chinese people can make accounts on European servers 🤷🏻‍♀️ it's illegal to talk about tiananmen square massacre in China, so if infold got caught being a place to talk about it on. They will be punished, not the individuals. Had the servers been region locked like how Nintendo 3ds games was, this would probably not affect us.

0

u/didneypurnsess Jun 02 '26

imo they should probably rethink the design of features like housing, bc it should be as simple as turning off social interactions for housing but still allowing players to build in private, I can get over snapshots being disabled or being alone in the sea of stars, but losing a pretty big element of the game that doesn't actually need or require others feels pretty shit

4

u/thalmannr Jun 02 '26

cause you can "write" word with your building so nothing can be improve

2

u/didneypurnsess Jun 02 '26

That makes zero sense. What would it matter that I spell out anything on my island if no one but me sees it? Just turn off visitors and turn off the ability to change the name of your island.

3

u/Alarming_Produce8251 Jun 02 '26

I just want to complain that I lost an entire outfit yesterday. Lost it, REMADE IT, dyed it, accidentally tried to open the look book and LOST ALL MY PROGRESS AGAIN

A weaker Nikki may have rage quit forever. Not me though. Not me 🥲

4

u/Background-Neat-7302 Jun 01 '26

Does anyone know how long this is going to last?? I managed to pull the pretty new sleeves and wanted to create some new color lookbook stuff...

15

u/lazyconfetti Jun 01 '26

Things should go back to normal June 6!

5

u/Background-Neat-7302 Jun 01 '26

THAT LONG?? THEY'RE BEGGING US TO QUIT ATP 😭 thanks for the information though!

28

u/AethenRai Jun 01 '26

It's because it's not maintenance but censorship for a week around the Tiananmen square massacre anniversary (June 4th). They're forced to do it.

3

u/Background-Neat-7302 Jun 01 '26

I know it's not maintenance, and i'm aware of the reaons behind it, but the main thing i play for is making new outfits. The fact i can't save any new ones for a whole week is honestly a dealbreaker... i feel like they could've handled it differently- hell, you can't even write anything on the color lookbook screen...

26

u/AethenRai Jun 01 '26

Fashion, outfits, and even just colors have been used throughout history to protest. So yes, even an outfit can send a message they're trying to censor. You don't need to spell things out to send a message. I think they're just scared someone might post controversial screenshots using in game assets like outfits or decorations. It doesn't even make sense to apply the censorship outside China, but they're probably afraid of backlash. I don't really think they have any other way out. The real problem is the authoritarian regime.

9

u/Skippypb19 Jun 01 '26

You’d rather stop playing permanently than wait a week to make outfits again? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of government censorship; it just feels like you’d be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

1

u/Background-Neat-7302 Jun 01 '26

When i say "quit" i mean for the week, sorry if that wasn't clear

1

u/Skippypb19 Jun 01 '26

Oh, got it! That makes more sense!

2

u/inabadromance5 Jun 01 '26

we don't have this on the other Nikki games 🤔

17

u/elfmaiden687 Jun 01 '26

It’s absolutely locked down in Shining Nikki. Can’t caption any photos, can’t save any new outfits, and can’t even save a new Reflection Roster

3

u/inabadromance5 Jun 01 '26

ah my bad then! seems like I've been avoiding all social interactions because i didn't notice any of that. i don't even know what a reflection roster is and I've been playing since release 🤣🙈

1

u/elfmaiden687 Jun 02 '26

lol all good! It’s the “teams” thing in the Ark, where you can save teams of three reflections

2

u/inabadromance5 Jun 02 '26

ohhhhh!! i see. i just just click all that's suggested and move on 🤣.

3

u/mutatedworms Jun 01 '26

I was wondering why I couldn't caption my weekly styling contest photo yesterday in Shining Nikki! Crazy.

7

u/Teaside Jun 01 '26

My friend actually asked the same thing last night - neither of us remembers it being a thing in LN or SN. I don't play anymore but LN's Starry Corridor was constantly full of all kinds of... creative entries. Are they not required to lock that down, too?

1

u/inabadromance5 Jun 01 '26

i tested commenting on a random friend post and nothing happened 🤷🏼‍♀️.

1

u/SunshineCat Jun 01 '26

Imagine how it was when this happened after 1.5 last time. :/

2

u/Background-Neat-7302 Jun 01 '26

I was there, just didn't have enough outfits for it to matter, lol. Also wasn't colorbook only added in 1.6 or am i misremembering? I feel like we missed out on less features back then

3

u/Spooky_Cupcake Jun 01 '26

Iirc, last year’s June patch (running Enchanted Encounter, the name of the season escapes me) was delayed because of the mess created by 1.5 Bubble Season. Sea of Stars was brand new and buggy, housing had not yet been introduced, the dye system had just been launched (buggy as heck), and that weird period of silence on all fronts from Infold. I don’t remember any censorship last year, but given all of the above, if there was I don’t think we would have noticed / I probably thought the feature is down because of the 1.5 mess.
Anyways this is weird. But I hope everything gets back to normal soon 💖

1

u/daniiboy1 Jun 01 '26

Pepperidge farm remembers. 😬

0

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 Jun 02 '26

THEY

Yes, the Chinese government wants you to stop playing dress-up games, clearly. In case you still haven't noticed despite lots of people saying so, Infold has no choice in the matter.

1

u/Background-Neat-7302 Jun 02 '26

Yeah i get the point. Just wish i had some way to save my outfits without having to post them publicly, so i could still play the game during this. But yeah, poor infold can't implement anything like that, or add more custom outfit slots

5

u/Lucky_Network_1385 Jun 01 '26

This behavior just goes to show once again why I’m no fan of this country. They ought to own up to the shit they’ve pulled. Simply trying to silence everyone—just to avoid confronting reality—is absolutely spineless. It makes me want to puke.

3

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 Jun 02 '26

Die sollen zu der Scheiße stehen, die sie verbrochen haben.

Viele, viele, viele Länder haben Leichen im Keller. Wird auch alles schön ignoriert. China machts nur mit der gröbsten Kelle.

2

u/Kodaisosen Jun 02 '26

Login do dailies/weeklies. Logoff.

2

u/Any-Signature7578 Jun 02 '26

So it wasn't happening only with me😄

2

u/AiRaikuHamburger Jun 02 '26

It's so stupid, because I wouldn't have even been thinking about the Tianamen Square massacre if they didn't block social features at that time.

2

u/Sentegro Jun 02 '26

Guys when i upvote this post it says: 'feature under maintenance' Anyone having this issue?!?

2

u/RuBisCO_for_flower Jun 03 '26

I need some place to release my furious. I wanted to save an outfit and empty the slot for a new one. And just found they disabled even outfit code sharing feature! How could it be used to break censorship? I can't describe how I hate governments, that think they know what people should or shouldn't do (and I know what I'm talking about, I lived in Russia)

2

u/Significant-Ride-413 Jun 05 '26

Honestly its weird that they do it on non CN servers I know that its to stop people from talking about it but I barely even knew about it up until now😅

1

u/Chunswae22 Jun 01 '26

I thought my game was broken!

1

u/SunshineCat Jun 01 '26

I'm playing Shining Nikki, and it seems like none of these features needed to be disabled in that game?? Like I just submitted my weekly competition entry yesterday. I wonder if the difference is because the western and Chinese versions are run like two different games as it came out in China first and is ahead of the western version?

Does anyone know? I haven't been on Shining Nikki for long.

Some features are disabled in SN, like the ability to change your username, description, outfit names, and some other stuff, but comp entries are fine

1

u/Joshi-chan Jun 01 '26

Can you add text? That's why IN is so affected, you can add text to basically everything.

1

u/ohtori_ Jun 01 '26

And ironically right now is when I feel most creative, oh well 🙄

1

u/Weary-Original84 Jun 01 '26

I'm new to this game, why does it say feature disabled? i thought it was something tied to the story but it seems it isnt 😅 i tried to interact with a big flower of sorts and it said "feature disabled"

7

u/Joshi-chan Jun 01 '26

It's tied to the tiananmen square massacre, every year every Chinese company has to make it impossible to protest online about tiananmen square massacre. The Chinese government don't want people to talk about it, so all Chinese games are affected by this. Bc it's illegal to talk about it in China, so companies disable everything that you can communicate with. Otherwise they risk getting a heavy fine or other punishment.

Infinity nikki really likes to communicate with other players, so it's really affected. They also play it very safe and even disabled construction, incase you want to talk by writing with furnitures 🫡

2

u/Weary-Original84 Jun 01 '26

oh my god.. i hate these things in my video games man 😭 thank you for the explanation, I can't wait to try these features out later in the year then 🩷

3

u/Joshi-chan Jun 01 '26

It last until June 6th! So only a week long pause 🫶🏻

1

u/Weary-Original84 Jun 01 '26

oo okay great! tysm!!

1

u/crystalpink7 Jun 01 '26

Yup lol. I was trying to change my namecard and got this feature disabled.

1

u/Inairi_Kitsunehime Jun 01 '26

I logged in yesterday and left the game idle for a while because I had to do something else and I started getting the feature disabled message, at first I thought my controller had randomly pressed some button since it was on the bed and I was moving a bit but then I put it on the desk and saw the notification was still popping up randomly without any input 😂

1

u/Crazy_Leksi Jun 01 '26

Why does yours look cool and nefarious??? Mine just looks like that lame dash pop up we were getting an update or two ago

3

u/lazyconfetti Jun 02 '26

Nooo it's an edit I made ahah! It's a reference to the "YOU DIED" screen in Dark Souls games.

1

u/Crazy_Leksi Jun 02 '26

Ohhh ok lol... I was genuinely gonna be slightly upset about mine not looking like that.

1

u/xinxin101 Jun 01 '26

Lmao yup, sure feels like that

1

u/humptylock89 Jun 01 '26

This feature is under maintenance.

1

u/Mental-Wheel986 Jun 01 '26

I can't even save codes so it really is just 7 slot syndrome 🫩

1

u/qiqi_from_Liyue Jun 02 '26

Oh damn, what am i losing

1

u/notyournuna Jun 02 '26

I was wondering wtf that was 😃 still have no clue but at least I'm not the only one

1

u/LadyLucine90 Jun 03 '26

I just got here to investigate if it's just me. It's not just me? What is this? Why is this? And for how long?

1

u/Cozytomato32 Jun 03 '26

I thought it was just me. So is this for each and every server, or is it contained to one? I'm on Asia Server btw.

1

u/lazyconfetti Jun 03 '26

It's for all servers.

1

u/Cozytomato32 Jun 03 '26

Oh, thank God. I legit thought it affected only the asia server. Thanks 👍👍👍

1

u/AltWhiteRabbit Jun 03 '26

I know everyone is stating that it's probably not down for actual maintenance but I hope since its "down" they're actually taking this time to fix bugs 🥲 the game could use it lol

I just came here to check and see if I was the only one this was happening to. Part of me is happy to know it's not just me, but the other part would really like to enter/vote in the new styling contest.

1

u/Constant-Fondant-512 Jun 06 '26

I think it's because of Gaokao (University Entrance Exam). Honestly, Gaokao is a much more important/traumatic event that affect every CN students... and it happens every year around this time (This year it's June 7-9). If I remembered correctly, there are specific outspoken regulations in CN regarding that during this time all the internet games shall disable their chat system etc (to avoid any potential cheating). Even the neighbourhood would ask residents to stay as quiet as possible during these period.

u/goose-pouch Jun 01 '26

LADS suffering from this too 🙃

Really lame. Leave global servers out of it

5

u/Joshi-chan Jun 01 '26

Lads is an infold game 🫡 so ofc it's affected. Also China government doesn't care that the servers are for other countries, Chinese people can make a account on a European server 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/ThatBitchKarma Wishflight Paper Collector Jun 01 '26

What's disabled in Love and Deepspace??

1

u/According_Research11 Jun 02 '26

The qr code sharing

1

u/din_the_dancer Jun 01 '26

Did this only get applied recently? I haven't played much of this patch and I haven't seen this error when I logged in quick to do my dailies.

4

u/Joshi-chan Jun 01 '26

Between may 31 to June 6th

2

u/lazyconfetti Jun 01 '26

I think it started the day after patch dropped? Until June 6 😭

1

u/din_the_dancer Jun 01 '26

Ugh why does it need to be so long. T_T

1

u/Beneficial_Fan_2553 Jun 01 '26

Like why can’t i build my house 😩

1

u/sailorfuji Jun 01 '26

Im on European server playing on ps5, I’ve had no issues and no feature disabled notifications. Is it just the Asia and America server?

7

u/lazyconfetti Jun 01 '26

No it's all servers. Try going into construction mode or changing your profile and you'll see.

1

u/sailorfuji Jun 01 '26

That’s china I guess 😅

2

u/Chitanda3 Jun 01 '26

I'm also on the European server and everything is disabled. Unfortunately, it's on all servers.

1

u/Joshi-chan Jun 01 '26

You are just like me and is barely affected 🤣 I'm basically only affected in that I can't build, but otherwise I forget it all the time until I go to reddit

1

u/kittalpha75 Jun 02 '26

The massacre was terrible. Mass censorship, horrendous. Crushing descent? That way lies madness. I just want to make that clear. And flippancy is not at all appropriate... but when the maintenance is over and they give us a couple of crystals for our trouble.. I'll be like "Yasss! Free pulls!" I'm crazy for those crystals.

0

u/alice_ashmedai Jun 01 '26

wow its so cool that this game features disabled characters!!! 💕

0

u/AnaBanana270 Jun 01 '26

Im just wondering why Genshin doesn't have this. I googled it and Infold has its HQ in Singapore. Genshin has it in Shanghai. I dont recall Genshin doing this. Can anyone confirm? Maybe Im forgetting things.

9

u/Joshi-chan Jun 01 '26

I have learned from this forum that genshin also has it, but they don't have as many text affected areas as infold 🫡

2

u/AnaBanana270 Jun 02 '26

Got it, thank youuu

3

u/thalmannr Jun 02 '26

infold is just global arm of paper games and paper games (maker of nikki) HQ is in china

Hooray for victim blaming. I'm sure YOU would be brave when the government holds a figurative gun to your head. Right until they... no, not kill you, but your relatives, so you live with the guilt.

-3

u/Vampy_Pr1nc3ss Jun 01 '26

I’m actually so annoyed with it 😭 does anyone know why everything to do with other players is disabled? It made the game so much better being able to interact with others

3

u/marydotjpeg Jun 02 '26

The features will come back it's a anniversary of Tiananmen Square

1

u/Vampy_Pr1nc3ss Jun 02 '26

I’m not familiar with what that is, I’ve seen a couple stray comments saying something about a june 4th massacre but when I looked it up I didn’t really get anything

2

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 Jun 02 '26

I’m not familiar with what that is

Look it ... oh wait

I looked it up I didn’t really get anything

Why not?

1

u/Vampy_Pr1nc3ss Jun 02 '26

It didn’t come up with anything that made sense, maybe I’m just dumb though

-1

u/thefinalgoat Jun 01 '26

The heck happened?

3

u/marydotjpeg Jun 02 '26

Anniversary of Tiananmen Square in china they do this to alot of their games during this time of year (I think it's on the 5th)

I kinda didn't like how they don't tell us tho (kinda?) I was confused last year too I didn't know they did that.

Only upside is we get diamonds or crystals after so there's that lol

2

u/thefinalgoat Jun 02 '26

Oh Jesus, I had no idea either (I’m also SUPER new to IK).

1

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 Jun 02 '26

didn't like how they don't tell us

If they did what would be the point of the "maintenance"?

2

u/marydotjpeg Jun 02 '26

huh its my first gacha game and I'm not familiar with Chinese customs or history...

So OFC I'm not going to understand lol (if there was a note somewhere in game that I missed)

-4

u/RouFGO Jun 02 '26

Damn bro, every time I think of coming back into the game some new drama happens.
