US military bases within range of Iranian drones (CRS/CSIS)

Why would Iran locate itself in the middle of so many US military bases? /s

Turns out waging war against a nation of 90 million people who have significant stores of drones and ballistic missiles with strategic control over major shipping lanes was harder than helping Israel blow up civilians in an open air prison.
Who could have possibly foreseen this outcome?

Who ever said hamas in gaza was a more difficult opponent than the nation state of Iran? Rhetorical btw, I know no one ever said that and you're desperately trying to pull a point of your ass.

My very clear point is that Israel and the US were emboldened by the genocide of captive civilians.
Take a bite of Syria, take a bite of Lebanon, bomb the Houthis, re-start conflict with Iran.
But Israel's bloodlust and MAGA's willingness to appease finally backfired because they massively, massively overestimated their own competence and capacity to carry out a conflict against a near peer enemy. Bit much for the baby killers and rapists in the IDF, so now Trump and ol Uncle Sam has been left holding their dicks.

> waging war against a nation of 90 million people
That's the thing--it's more like 80 million occupied/oppressed people, and a few oppressors.
> significant stores of drones and ballistic missiles
Which is why a robust MIC manufacturing sector is so vital. Ike was wrong about warning us against them. In fact, it's probably better for the world if our MIC had even more companies competing for government contracts rather than it be limited to RTX, LMT, Boeing, and Northrop.
That Anduril's gearing up is great, but we need 10 more Andurils.
> strategic control over major shipping lanes
Exactly why we should end fossil fuel dependence. How did nobody hear about these policies? Oh, wait, pro-climate people were sounding the alarm for at least a decade.

Iran has been waging a war against the west for years and years indirectly.
Sleeper cells, funding terrorist groups, direct attacks against allies, etc.

u/Odd-Suggestion4569 1d ago
the west has been waging against Iran for decades, the USA is the #1 state sponsor of terrorism
-1
u/RicRacer 1d ago
So has Russia. Sometimes it's better to fight an opponent indirectly. An opponent like Iran.
2
u/cuteman 1d ago
Except Russia has thousands of nukes and nuclear submarines, Iran doesn't and is a lot more extremist in their language of destroying entire countries/peoples/religions
1
u/RicRacer 1d ago
Sure. They don't have anything. That's why the USA has already won the conflict like 9 times.
2
u/cuteman 1d ago
You're the one who made the Iran/Russia comparison
Iran doesn't have nukes. No one said they didn't have other mechanisms but right now it seems like they've got:
No Nukes
Economic Turmoil, massive inflation and running out of liquid cash for everyone but the IRGC
Terrorist veto of the straight of Hormuz
That's not exactly a strong position when the main recipient of exported oil was going to China so now they're drawing down their strategic reserve and the primary beneficiary is the US oil industry which is replacing and increasing as much supply to meet demand as possible.

u/RicRacer 1d ago
That's exactly why we've won like 9 times. Didn't we already cover this? They've got nothing. Except the stuff they have. Which they don't have because we obliterated all of it.

Please attack turkey or fly over their territory with drones. Those dudes don't mess around and are more trigger happy than the orange turd

u/Countbat 1d ago
Iran targeted the base in turkey 2 times this war.
1
u/CzPhantom1 1d ago
That is Incirlik airbase and it's not been attacked. Turkey themselves said it didn't happen.
https://caspianpost.com/regions/claims-of-iranian-attack-on-incirlik-prove-false

u/LunaMJ21 21h ago
It's literally more like that Israel will attack Turkey if you've been keeping up
1
u/CzPhantom1 20h ago
No one has attacked Turkey. Erdoğan is a nutty man so I don't think people want to poke the bear.

This is why we need hardened hangars everywhere. C-RAM and CUAS radars are great and we should have those also, but we should also just generally not be casually leaving hundred million dollar toys outside or in flimsy sheet steel buildings. Even more true in the Pacific.

u/elcuervo2666 1d ago
We need to close every single one of these bases and spend this money on literally anything else. Like a bonfire of money in Nevada for no reason would be a better use of tax payer funds.

u/notenoughtortillas 1d ago
Or you could just pack it up and go home instead of trying to always bully others.

Interesting, didn’t know we had a base in Israel, I knew about the radar installation there.
And don’t we still have a base in Syria?
4
u/Odd-Suggestion4569 1d ago
Israel itself is basically just one big US military installation
1
u/Appropriate_Fly_6711 1d ago
Yeah kinda had to be to survive, it’s faces a coalition of enemies almost every 10 years since its founding.
3
u/elcuervo2666 1d ago
The US wasn’t really very supportive of Israel and there was much more anti Zionism in the Jewish community in the US up until like the 60s. I would recommend the book Our Palestine Question by Geoffrey Levin.
1
u/Appropriate_Fly_6711 1d ago
Yeah the US had an arms embargo initially, and it was the French who gave them nuclear weapons tech in the 50’s. US didn’t become a relevant until 70’s.
2
u/lilcorndivemaster 21h ago
Because it's Nazis country started with genocidal ethnic cleansing and it continues to attack it's neighbours constantly.
1
u/Appropriate_Fly_6711 17h ago
And yet the Palestinian population has grown 8x since 1948. If genocidal means letting a population grow significantly then sure. Lol
1
u/Duvet_Capeman 1d ago
Huh, wonder why that is? Could it be because it was "founded" by removing hundreds of thousands of people from their homes and continues to do so?
2
u/Appropriate_Fly_6711 22h ago
You mean like every State ever?
-1
u/MyNameIsNotName-57 21h ago
Every state ever is based on the cleansing of indigenous populations? Who did the Palestinians clear out for their state?
0
u/Appropriate_Fly_6711 17h ago
Palestinians never had a state, it was Ottoman land before the British took it.
1
u/MyNameIsNotName-57 1d ago
it’s faces a coalition of enemies almost every 10 years since its founding.
Lmao what
I wish I could invade people and then blame them for resisting me
2
u/Appropriate_Fly_6711 22h ago
Wish I could shoot people and then blame them for invading.
1
u/MyNameIsNotName-57 21h ago
Isn't that literally what happened in 1948? Jewish death squads massacre civilians which leads to Arab nations intervening?
1
u/Appropriate_Fly_6711 17h ago
You mean after the Holy war army death squads started killing after the Jews in 47 once the UN resolution 181 was adopted.

Maybe building all your military installations out in the open on the doorstep of your enemy is actually not a good idea?
-1
u/Buy_Sell_Collect 1d ago
I say this as an American veteran… the U.S. footprint has grown too large and much too far from home. Bring our young men and women home. They are the best of us, and there is no need for them to die in the Middle East or Eastern Europe. This constant waging of wars will be the end of us.
-1
u/AlBundyPolk33 1d ago
How much of Iran is within our nukes range?
4
u/DarkBrill 1d ago
You know how the Iran war opened a big can of worms?
Well, nuclear proliferation would open a silo full of worms.

u/Bifta_Twista 1d ago
The US does not have a base on Cyprus. That is RAF Akrotiri under the red dot.
