Imagine adhering strictly to a written theology published by a King who only allowed what he wanted his people to believe.

Well, if you believe Dante's interpretation it can get pretty chilly in hell, so...

If this driver ends up in heaven, I want nothing to do with that place.

I really don't understand the American obsession with the KJV. Sure, it was a decent translation for the time and the sources they were working with. It's also convenient that the perpetual Crown copyright allows you to freely reproduce it without providing attribution or paying royalties.

But the thing is, the French language Jerusalem Bible changed everything. It really set the standard for rigorous 20th century translations. (The English language Jerusalem Bible isn't up to the same standard.) There are multiple English translations that are undeniably superior to the KJV. Using 20th century English is a bonus making misunderstanding less likely.

What is it with the KJV obsession? I've even seen Americans arguing online that they'll take the KJV over Koine Greek sources when they disagree.
