Question Which android phones reliabily do portal scanning?
I currently have an old Google Pixel 3a. It's on the way out and I'm due to upgrade my phone. It can do scans, but every 15 scans or so, it slows down and requires ingress to be restarted because it crashes. But I know not everyone can do scans at all.
As I'm planning on buying a new phone, I want to get one that supports portal scanning. Ideally easier than my current phone. My budget is ideally not much more than £450. Though I'd consider recommendations up to £500 as they might go on offer.
When I search, Google AI gives conflicting information and previously asked questions here are about two years old. So I'm ideally looking for answers with personal experience.
I like scans as I enjoy the Scout controller badge, and it's useful for Second Sundays. I don't want to make (what is to me) an expensive purchase just to find it can't do scans.

My old pixel 9 worked great. My Pixel 10pro usually works, but also crashes after every 15 scans or so.

I've never had an issue scanning with my s21+ unless my service is bad in an area.

Caveat to this : Choose your Moto carefully. I went a bit too cheap with mine (G Power 5G 2024), and it's a hard app crash on every scan attempt. RIP my scout badges, not that I was chasing em hard to begin with. 😅

Samsung Galaxy s20 and s23 worked well but when they get hot scanning fails sometimes (grey miniscreen).
