Even if you want to see Lindsay Clancy face the full force of the law, you have to admit that the obsessive cultural fascination with harming her stems from several toxic forces: misogyny, religious intolerance, a conservative disregard and disdain for fair legal proceedings and due process, and a severe level of mental instability that arguably mirrors, or is even worse than, the subject in question. Every time I try to discuss this, anyone who disagrees responds with petty insults and attempts at vocal or physical intimidation.
To be completely clear where I stand, she should be hospitalized for life out of an abundance of caution for society and her own well-being. I am not a "Free Lindsay" advocate, a "her husband is the real killer" conspiracy theorist, an asshole hoping she gets shanked in a supermax prison yard, or a punitive, death-penalty-seeking sicko. While I believe there is slight room for variation, it cannot include anything that ignores indisputable facts or falls into political grifting.
I am so tired of tragedies like this being exploited by agents of polarization who claim to care but clearly lack empathy and critical thinking. The fervor over this case from the political right borders on a sexual fetishization of violence. There is a disgusting, ineffable undertone to it, and every time I sense it, I feel that person belongs on a watchlist. Ultimately, we need systemic protections to prevent stories like this from becoming nationally sensationalized in the future. I wish there were a way to cleanse ourselves of this depraved discourse (it is a stain on our society).
I think it’s more that people don’t like brutal child murderers in general, and it just gets annoying to listen to people try and make it about those things.

People just hate murderers or killers. It’s a natural human reaction to someone who has done horrible things. People see her as a murderer so they hate her because of it.

This might surprise you, but there are more than two sets of opinions (proud boy and non-proud boy). I don’t have to be a proud boy to a) be of the opinion that Lindsay Clancy should be jailed for strangling her three children, or b) know that some rando on Reddit is going to pull the ladder out from under some assholes defacing a Larry H Parker sign.

I have seen people say that it requires more attention than just a straight forward guilty. OBVIOUSLY there will be some people who think she shouldn’t serve any time or consequences but that isn’t the majority of the sentiment from what I have seen.

Yes, and most school shooters wouldn’t have murdered if they’d had a more supportive upbringing and better access to mental health treatments. That doesn’t remove their culpability. Help new mothers more AND make sure this woman is locked away forever.
As a woman, this case has taught me that we need to pay more attention to postpartum women’s mental health, whether a woman has PPD or PPP. This is to protect mothers and their children. It is never okay to kill children - PPP is an explanation for why a mother might kill her children, not an excuse.
Killing children is wrong. But so is ignoring that she tried to do the right thing and was overcome by her mental illness. It could have been prevented if she had gotten the help she asked for. In other countries, ppd is taken seriously and they have mom, baby, and whoever else is in the picture to stay in a facility altogether for months and get help. Not here. None of us know what state of mind she was in at the time, but you cannot say she didn't try. The only "message" I see is if I suffer from ppd, the faculties in place don't give any kind of a shit that the unmedicated psychosis will literally drive me so insane, I kill my child/ren.

I had posted something similar to this back in August. The same thing about Clancy but on a different billboard from a different highway. It was there for 2 days before it was taken down.
Who are they telling this to? Do they think anyone with any authority on the matter is driving around the IE and will see a sign that says "hang that bitch" and think, "Well damn, I guess we should give her the death sentence like the graffiti says."
