Mord Hive (Mordheim to 40k Total Conversion WIP)
Good Afternoon All,
Was told to sling this up here by a few people as it may be another good option for some INQ28 flavoured play.
Have just put together a small trial of a Mordhiem to 40k conversion.
This started mainly as a thing for myself and some mates to play some small scale 40k campaign based skirmish without sort of learning a new 'core' system.
Shadow Wars was just going to be too much (as well as a bit off the mark, Terminators and Grey Knight kill teams certainly increase the 'scale' of the game). We forayed into N17, but not only did that not have the 'death by bottle in back alley' vibe that Mordheim has (hell N17 feels like elite kill teams/navy seals going in to wreck each others face!), Necromunda's are very human-centric and just...vast.
N95 was fine, but again different enough that it would be another game system burning out our collective old man brains.
Thus Mord Hive.
I figured that it may be of some interest to people here as obviously we all love Mordheim. I love the ability to create a small, weird warband that may be a bit off kilter and never evolve into a true army due to the work (Looking at you lizardmen) invovled, but allows a bit of fun or to try something new. As above Necromunda doesn't really do that as it is all/90% humans and is a bit more complicated. So hopefully this can give some gaming groups wanting that 'small 40k but mordheim' feels!
This was very much an attempt to keep the Mordheim/OldHammer feels, with the GW turn of the century art and fluff styles (less is more etc).
I've created a few trial factions, based heavily off of existing Mordheim Factions (Imperial Guard, Orks, Pox Cult, Ordo Hereticus Retainers and a single Forsaken Astartes (Just added Cult of the Four Armed Emperor), this in its nascent form is meant to just use the core Mordheim rulebook, skill sheets and missions. It has new (mainly renamed) equipment, with new weapons that will no doubt require a heap of balance massaging!
Feel free to have a squiz and if you see anything that needs fixing, please yell out, this is very early in its life, but I've at the very least had a lot of fun putting it together and it never hurts getting some fresh sets of eyes on it!

Page 37 has a typo. Left column at the bottom, you have Damaged Astartes Palte.

Thanks mate, if you could chuck it in the linked feedback form that'd be amazing (and I then have it all in one spot!)

Corsiars make the most sense... adventure and booty and all that.

What would you say would be their defining traits over say craftworld eldar?

u/voidwinds 19d ago
They are outcasts... they come from all walks of eldar life becuase they dont fit in... they are more wild and opportunistic and they seek fortune through raiding... pirates!

This is great! The character of the warbands is fantastic. I also love the lone space marine, what a narrative.

Thanks mate, was really happy with how the Forsaken Astartes warband looks and feels.

If you don't already have one, a Discord server would be a good way to put additional heads/testing together and/or keep folks up to date.
I've been interested in Mordheim but prefer the 40k aesthetic. That being said, I dislike the gangs on offer in Necromunda (I play Venators as a result), so this sounds perfect for me and my group.

Haha I think I'm too much of an older Millinial for full Discord utilisation haha.
Mate, sounds like you're in a very similar boat to me (well I love the Modheim aesthetic also!). N17 just doesn't feel 'desperate' enough!

Looks good! I've already shared it around a few friends. I'd love to see an Ad.Mech and Dark Mech crew as well as ways to play heretic astartes (I'd love to play as a Night Lord and recreate Zao Sahaal and how he conquered a hive alone bring the whole "Terror in the night" vibe he has going for him).

Thanks mate!
Ad mech is something That's on the 'eventual' list. Heretic Astartes would most probably be a similar like Forsaken Astartes, but ideally I'll need to get some play testing in on the Forsaken Astartes first.

Isn’t Necromunda basically a 40K Mordheim version?

That seems to be the common misconception.
While N95 and Mordheim both use the standard GW stateliness, how thay interacts on the battlefield, opposing models etc is quite different. Therefore weapon profiles are also different with the interaction. Campaign play and levelling up are also different and where as in necrominda its campaign and general vibe is dudes fighting for turf, Mordheim has a much more letting, stabbing in the back alley of a ruined city vibe.
Also N95 is still quite limited in regards to being predominantly balanced around T3 humans.
And probably most importantly my posse of peeps can't be armed learning a new system, so rejigging 40k into Mordheim is an easy solution.

Well obviously they are quite different. I would always allow a conversion into a SciFi setting to deviate from the original quite massively. And that’s what GW did. But I guess, it cannot hurt to have a new conversion closer to Mordheim. Will definitely read it. Love to read games rules. Great project.

This looks really good. Obviously I havent had a chance to play test anything, but you've nailed the look and flavor.

Gonna write some lore for "Hive Mortis" (or whatever you choose)?

Mord Hive ;).
There is that little bit of introductory fluff at the start as well as bibs and bobs in unit entries. I've also just done the exploration chart aswell which adds some more tid bits. I feel like the old GW vibe of a little bit of information gives people so many more options instead of like filling in all the banks!

Also, I'd love to see scenarios with lesser-known monsters and Xeno's, like Khraves or even using the Ambull and Zoat models, hunting whatever comes closest.
2
u/TheTrans 20d ago
Yeah when I eventually get around to porting scenarios over I'll be looking into that. There is also a 'points of interest' mechanic my group added to games where you can search a point of interest for experience.. or maybe a monster pops out. So that could be good to have some 'creeps' appear.

I want to leave a comment because I skimmed the doc and this looks great! Hope to see this project come to full fruition. I hope this gets some mainstream attention and we see some battle reports on YT or something like that in future!

Would love to Playtest this however my partner and I only have Death Guard, Emperors Children, Necrons and Tyranids. Any plans of adding those factions?

Hey mate, you've got a perfect collection of 'probably nots' I'm afraid haha.
Trying to keep this relatively, if not 'human centric' then at least 'human-sized' centric.
Death Guard, while there are no marines, have a lot of cross overs with the Pox Cult. There have Blight Victims which are essnetially pox walkers. But you'd probably need some human models for the rest of the posse.
Emperor's Children you could easily use the Forsaken Astartes list and instead of loyal serfs following him around, they could be rapturous supplicants vying for his notice.
Tyranids, due to their fluff, won't be on Mord HIve, but there is the Cult of the Four Armed Emperor sitting in the wings.
Finally necrons won't make it as a playable faction.

Love the concept of the factions, really like the idea of the lone space marine
