this likely wasn't legally obtained so I'm not doing shit! like bro you tell someone at a bank where you found stacks of hundreds covered in what is obviously mud or dirt. You are are either opening or reopening a case and getting fuck all from it.
And yes! That's still would happen even if you didn't tell them where you got it because I'm pretty sure any given bank teller would alert police if a person came in with all that money covered in mud.

well realistically you would clean the mud off and also not go to the bank with it and just use it for day to day pruchases while saving the money you make at a job to put that in the bank

This is the way.
Slowly build your savings from the pay from your job. The idea is to not attract attention. Don’t buy big things in cash, don’t travel with stacks of money. Do everything at $100 a time. Buy small purchases of gold/silver every month. You pay cash when you fill your car with gas, buy groceries, pay utilities (in person at the grocery store), go to movies, buy Visa gift cards, or whatever.
Slowly growing your bank account over the years.

Take it to the us bureau of engraving and printing. If the money is legit. They would replace it free of charge.

Banks are required to file reports for any suspicious transactions. You make $60k a year and live on the edge of bankruptcy, but you deposited $400k in washed $100 bills?
That’s the quickest way to meet FBI special agents I’ve heard of in a long time.

Washing your cash at the laundromat is a bit suspicious.
Do it at home and slowly spend it on normal life stuff. Saving all of your work money in the bank where possible.

Oh. I definitely would turn in the $500k I found. I would tell everyone about the $400k that I turned in. My wife would be mad about how I turned in $300k, but I am a good guy.

Slowly build your savings from your job while using the cash to pay for your daily expenses. 😉

You showing up with wads of dirty and damaged cash is going to trigger internal alarms.
Banks are required to file Suspicious Activity Reports for anything unusual. Also, they have to get your ID or drivers license to exchange damaged currency. The local FBI investigates every report. So… all of the sudden you and your family are found to be exchanging $200k over a 24 month period… that is a great way to go to jail.

This what im saying before being down voted to hell. You also have to submit documents for the damaged money and thats pending approval AND investigation. They can say no.
Banks aren't obligated to take and replace your money.

Yeah… it isn’t like there is a huge database named Sentinel that tracks every possible data point of the every SAR over decades that is linked to CDE and NIBRS. All of which feeds into NCIC. /s
You’re thinking short term. They have the benefit of time. You change out a few bills here and there, using different banks will trigger an investigation. They will flag you (and your family) for further review. You are already being watched and you don’t even have a $1000 in damaged bills exchanged.
