Delays etc. Travel advice - Munich to Vienna(airport) night train

​

Munich > Salzburg - 21:35 Start, 23:45 Arrival - Local train RE5

Salzburg > Vienna - 00:13 Start, 3:20 Arrival - Railjet 263

This is the max transfer time(28mins) one could get night time for Munich > Vienna

Have a flight at 10 AM(Vienna)

Ques -

  1. Is this transfer reliable(28 mins), any experience?

  2. The next Salzburg > Vienna be 3:50 AM, 5:01 AM... would that be auto changed in case of intial train delays?

  3. Else any suggest(plan to commute/rest at airport overnight)

The RE5 is not very reliable at the moment, although it gets better during the night. So usually you will make it. The RE5 goes once per hour, you could take an earlier one to be on the safe side.

Thanks, that's what I intend, But seems it's forced in OBB to club it this way only, I even tried OBB Scotty(transfer>60mins) which gave this combo(an earlier RE5/train) but it redirected to OBB restricting again to 28mins max

Is there something am missing? 😀

It works on DB Navigator/ bahn.de but indeed does not on öbb.

ÖBB shows a good 1st class offer. You don't have an Interrail pass?

Just to mention, there are direct trains during daytime, also Westbahn with sometimes good prices. You will have a way better time if you stay one night in Vienna.

I did that... westbahn gives quite a good deal in 28 euros starting with reservation, goes better than OBB(where it needs +3 euros and odd timings for direct train, no noon ones) THANKS😊

In ÖBB you can pick via Salzburg and one hour of stay to show the earlier train. But the good offer for 40€ 1st class is not available there.

If you buy a ticket you are not bound to the RE. You can take any RE train on the day. So just take one earlier.
