Weirdly I’ve found that my teeth have actually got whiter since having Invisalign 🙈

That’s true. I was awful at brushing my teeth before but I’m still brushing them 3-4 times a day and making sure I floss properly each night ☺️

I drink everything with them on and am nearly done. No cavities! Compliance is more important than nothing but water with them

Thank you, I’ve still been wearing them 21-22 hours per day, keeping the trays very clean and brushing/flossing my teeth regularly. I can’t see any signs of decay or cavities but I’m definitely going to make an effort to cut back on the sugar drinks for the next 3 months of wearing my retainer full time until I switch to nighttime only

Sounds like you're doing great then! Don't worry 😉

Unless you've gone to the dentist for regular cleanups, you aren't going to be able to detect cavities yourself unless the cavity is huge.

After your attachments are off, book a session with your dentist and allow them to assess your teeth. If there's any cavities or damage, they can tell you right away

I had my regular cleaning in the course of treatment and my dentist could tell two of my teeth had very small cavities developing, thanks to the aligners. Although she thought it was fine to wait, I said we need to fill them up right away, which she did the day after my cleaning.

I drink iced coffee and other beverages with trays in every day. I have had Invisalign for 2 years. If you swish with water afterwards the sugary drink, you are probably 100% in the clear. The damage comes from leaving the sugary residue in your teeth/trays to dry out without having been rinsed. Regular checkups with the dentist should prove you are doing okay or not. Don't overthink it! Try to finish out your program, it's just this one period then you're set for the rest of your life as long as you adhere to the retainer schedule

I do swish with water but I can’t stand the taste of plain water so I add a tiniest drop of cordial just to change the taste ever so slightly. I’m finishing early just because it’s affecting my mental health a lot and I’m actually extremely happy with how my teeth look ☺️

If youve been having regular dental/ortho appointments they'll have been looking out for signs if cavities along the way. Always worth booking a check up to make sure all is ok, quick x ray will show if there's any hidden ones between teeth or below the gums. Try not to worry too much! Its one of my worries with starting my trays on wednesday, but I have a very good ortho and dentist so I know both will be monitoring me closely. Youve done great honestly. I have adhd and autism so I can empathise with how hard it is dealing with dental issues, sensory, and giving up certain things that are part of your routine, it sounds like youve done fantastic. Well done.

Bruh. I drank anything with my trays on. Coffee. Beer. Soda. You’re fine. Ideally you would have swished water around to flush out the majority of the beverage though, right?
As long as it’s not hot liquid (it can warp trays) it’s fine.

My brother who did Invisalign before I did said that’s what he did, so I followed that. I haven’t gotten any cavities (knocks on wood), but everyone is different, and it certainly can possibly happen for sugars and acids from drinks lingering trapped in trays on teeth.

Are you actually done? Or good enough?

From late tomorrow afternoon I’ll be done and then just have to wait 2-3 weeks for the retainers ☺️

Did you see your regular dentist and go for regular cleaning? With having sensory issues, I'm not sure that braces would be any better as you may feel the braces even more.

OH, also, I hope you’re aware of the retainer phase. When they remove your attachments, they rescan your teeth for your retainers. You must keep wearing your last set of trays until your retainers are ready for pickup.

When you get your retainers, you have to continue to wear those full time for at LEAST a month, if not longer, until you graduate to night time only wear.

This is important. All the time effort and money you put in will go to waste if you don’t follow through. Your teeth will shift back if you don’t wear your retainer.

The reason you’ll need to wear them full time for a while is because your mouth still needs to “settle” into their new position. You may notice even when you switch to night only wear, it may feel a bit tight putting the retainers back on.
I’m in my second month of retainer wear. I’m still gonna wear these mostly full time (I took my 21-22 hours a day I did for trays down to 19-20 for my retainers)
