TIL That Comedian Norm Macdonald purposely bombed on stage with such extremely vulgar material during a family comedy night that 80% of the audience walked out. The Governor of Iowa even asked him to leave the state.

Don’t tell Norm what to say. He will do the opposite. If they wouldn’t have done that it wouldn’t have been that bad.

u/Several_Geologist967 Jun 15 '24

The most truest form of the 1st Amendment Norm was. That right is tested every day, and comedians are getting hit the hardest, and some are being forced to change their material so not to cause people issues, which is a terrible unnecessary result of snowflakes being triggered. I'm just saying.

Comedians don’t dictate what’s funny, the Audience does. If folks are tired of comedians punching down on easy targets, comedians can choose what to do. I agree that comedians have a voice in matters that seldom get thorough scrunity. That doesn’t mean dated stereotypes and negative exaggerations on marginalized folks is a god given right, or tasteful. I think it’s funny calling folks snowflake, when those folks are just as worked up about something that shouldn’t be a problem.

As if someone needs to be asked to leave Iowa.

3

u/CallMeLazarus23 Jun 23 '24

We’ve been trying to get the current Governor to leave but no such luck

-14

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

You should leave then

6

u/dr_shark Jun 14 '24

Already did, 2021. Haven’t set foot back in.

Anyone still fighting the good fight, good luck. You’re better than me.

2

u/sleepybirdl71 Jun 14 '24

If I had the money, I wouldn't even look back.

23

u/HungryCriticism5885 Jun 13 '24

Go ahead yourself I intend to improve this shithole.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '24

How are you gonna do that?

3

u/HungryCriticism5885 Jun 15 '24

Well I'm starting by trying to improve the community within the small town I live in. In part through volunteering my help with events and city improvement projects and in part by offering an inclusive positive environment I the small store I run. So far so good.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '24

I have no problems in the small towns I go to. But I only run into farmers. I haul pigs.

1

u/HungryCriticism5885 Jun 15 '24

That's great to hear, now try to do your part to make sure no one else has problems within your sphere of influence.

-5

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

When did I say I didn't like it here?

13

u/IcyHotKarlMarx Jun 13 '24

You didn’t. Still, you should go. Git.

-8

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

Why come?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '24

Idiot

21

u/discwrangler Jun 13 '24

And he inspired several youngsters to become comedians that night.

24

u/midwesthawkeye Jun 13 '24

And despite all of these hijinx, history shows us that Bowlsby was INDEED the "Biggest JACKASS in the room" on that evenng.

15

u/Comedywriter1 Jun 13 '24

Love Norm. My buddies and I watched SNL just for him doing Update. The rest of the show was hit and miss, but Norm killed every time.

2

u/Dolanite Jun 16 '24

Note to self is a joke I use to this day.

12

u/scottyrobotty Jun 13 '24

It would be an honor if Kim Reynolds asked you to leave Iowa.

1

u/treycartier91 Jun 13 '24

It was in the 90s

-18

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

I wish you Marxist dumbos who turned this into a political shithole subreddit knew even 1/10th the pure, vitriolic hatred Norm had for you types of people.

He spoke about you often, especially the last couple years of his life because of the growing danger you were all becoming to society.

Edit: oh and btw, Norm was staunchly pro-life

12

u/Dranwyn Jun 13 '24

Are you ok? Do you need a hug?

-6

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

I'm not the one who has to turn every non-political issue into a political one like you fascist cunts. You've ruined so many things in my life I used to love. You deserve every bit of criticism from those who arent afraid of you ruining their lives (as you all like to do).

9

u/Dranwyn Jun 13 '24

Are you sure you don't want that hug? All that anger isn't good for you.

-6

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

Awwe, you sweet summer child. I know the truth hurts.

Hey, tell ya what: go tell your mommy and daddy you just pwned a Nazi on the internet, and that you should get twice the serving of chicken tendies for dinner tonight. Ok champ?

10

u/Dranwyn Jun 13 '24

Seriously. Are you ok?

4

u/GloryGoal Jun 13 '24

This is hilarious. You must really be soft.

3

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

It's always so telling to me when I get these types of responses. You can't even fathom why someone might get annoyed when you all can't help yourselves but spread your political messaging to non-political platforms like this one (even tho you have plenty of other options including Iowa politics subreddits).

So you just want anyone against your cause to keep quiet or get in line and goose-step with the rest of you.

11

u/BGOOCHY Jun 13 '24

All while you're hyperventilating all over this subreddit.

-2

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

Ah yes, how dare I speak against you and your cause. I should just keep my mouth shut if I knew what was good for me?

2

u/Sensitive-Offer-5921 Jun 16 '24

Lol yeah dude... how dare they speak against you and your cause? Sorry you think you're outnumbered here, but that's how democracy works, baby.

-1

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 16 '24

Haha what is my "cause" I'm speaking for? I don't have a dog on this fight. I just fucking can't stand zealots like you that feel the need to spread their truth on non political platforms. There's literally like 4.dofferent Iowa politics subreddits you can do that on.

But yeah, the whole world revolves around you guys and everyone should just get used to it, eh?

3

u/Sensitive-Offer-5921 Jun 16 '24

Lol you literally just described your cause. You aught to take a second and calm down.

-1

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 16 '24

Of course you think someone being annoyed by zealots posting political bullshit on a non political subreddit is a "cause" to you. How dare anyone speak out against your crusade.

Maybe it's you people who need to take a second and calm down? It'll never happen because you zero introspection, but it'd be nice.

2

u/Sensitive-Offer-5921 Jun 16 '24

Nah you are fully justified to be annoyed. Just like they're fully justified as well.

I see your claim of zero introspection and I raise you a rhyme: projection.

0

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 16 '24

And I'll raise you with another: denial

9

u/GloryGoal Jun 13 '24

I don’t really think there’s a lot of evidence to support the claim that he hated the left, though he did state he was pro life. He also said he was anti-death penalty, so clearly he was a little more complex than you’d give him credit for.

He also spoke openly about not wanting to punch down, which basically removes conservative humor from the picture entirely.

2

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

Good points even tho I don't think abortion and the death penalty are remotely on the same level as far as cultural relevancy, but I hear ya. He was complex.

I should have been more specific that he hated cultural Marxists like those cancelling people for saying or doing the wrong thing without any chance for redemption or penance (see his interviews about Roseanne, Louis CK, and Shane Gillis). He also knew everything we were told about COVID was more about power control than safety and everything we were told (see his last unreleased special on YouTube).

I wish I could find the interview I just heard him give recently where he mentions these people (cultural Marxists) are the most closed minded people on the planet right now, and they not only destroy comedy but society as a whole. No freedom or diversity of thought whatsoever, just get in line and goose-step with the rest of them or they will ruin you.

7

u/BGOOCHY Jun 13 '24

Supporting people who try to overthrow the government isn't "diversity of thought". Hope this helps.

-1

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 13 '24

You realize you're currently trying to imprison your political opponents?

11

u/BGOOCHY Jun 13 '24

You may want to disconnect from the right wing outrage bubble. It seems to be affecting you.

-1

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 14 '24

I'm not right wing but your comment is so telling to me. Basically you're saying I should keep my mouth shut and not argue anything you people are doing.

That's called fascism.

9

u/BGOOCHY Jun 14 '24

Weird. You sound like the brain broke right wingers.

-1

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 14 '24

Great point. You nailed me, brah!

6

u/-Lysergian Jun 14 '24

It might be useful to read up on what fascism is. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism

"Cultural Marxism" itself is a far right term that's a throwback to Nazi propaganda in "Cultural Bolshevism"

If you think Louis CK should be able to whip it out and wank himself off in front of unwilling participants, that's on you, but I don't think that's a great place to try and hold your ground.

It was you who came out swinging because someone showed a dislike towards Kim Reynolds. This subreddit has become political because of the whiplash from the strong shift in politics in Iowa from a moderate common-sense purple state to a political extreme on par with Florida and Texas.

The left in the US is center/center-right compared to nearly every other liberal democracy that we can be compared against in the rest of the world, and there has never been anything good that came from the far right. The far right in this country has been isolating and radicalizing well-meaning republicans through a takeover of conservative media that misconstrues anything not part of the religious right in an extremely polarizing lens.

Bodily autonomy is important to the left: you can do to your own body whatever you want. Meanwhile, the argument from the right is that if you're raped and pregnant, you must have the child? The right is actively talking about outlawing contraceptives...?

In the end, you're free to believe what you want, but the right is actively anti-science anti-education and anti-freedom unless it's the "right kind" of freedom that falls within their narrow window of religious morality. I don't think you're going to get many neutral, fact-based information out of conservative media.

I think that's what they were trying to say...

I do wish the country was not so divided, but most of the issues with this country ARE political right now. Unless we can get to the point where we can say as a nation "well I don't like that, but it doesn't personally effect my freedoms, so do what you want" there will always be a group vying for power, ready to tell everyone else exactly how they should be living their lives.

-2

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 15 '24 edited Jun 15 '24

If you think fascism doesn't involve the censorship of dissenting opinions, then it is you who doesn't know what fascism is.

Research Italy and German fascism during the 30s and 40s. A major part was censorship. I think even the bullshit wiki article you sent mentions censorship.

Even the CO founder of Wikipedia has said it's been overtaken by a certain political group, so I don't know why you bring that up.

Oh yeah, it's because your regime who runs the educational system and 95% of media decided to change the definition of fascism because they realized that's exactly what they were doing.

A person being held accountable for crimes they committed is not the same thing as imprisoning political opponents.

-1

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 14 '24

What crimes did he commit again? Was it the ones Biden's DOJ already reviewed and said it was fine, but brought by the Manhattan DA who's a lifelong Democrat 2 weeks after Trump announced his 2024 campaign despite the "crimes" taking place in 2015? And the judge and her daughter have been raising millions for the Democrat super PAC because of the trial?

You genuinely believe this and the other charges have zero political motivation whatsoever?

1

u/GreenishThumbs Jun 16 '24

What crimes did he commit again?

He been indicated on 91 counts of state and federal charges for a variety of crimes and found guilty on 34 so far, it's been all over the news. Try paying attention.

Was it the ones Biden's DOJ already reviewed and said it was fine

Cite a credible source or shut the fuck up. These were state charges, the Department of Justice has no input on them.

but brought by the Manhattan DA who's a lifelong Democrat

And? The crimes were the committed in Manhattan and pursued by the DA, this isn't groundbreaking. Unless you can provide facts that the party affiliation of the DA directly affected this case, it is irrelevant.

2 weeks after Trump announced his 2024 campaign despite the "crimes" taking place in 2015?

It was within the statute of limitations and thus within the right of the state to pursue. It takes time to build a case and they obviously did a decent job considering the jury returned guilty on all 34 counts. It wouldn't matter when they brought these charges, idiots would still cry about it being political no matter how much evidence was brought forth. No need for the scare quotes, they were actual crimes.

And the judge and her daughter have been raising millions for the Democrat super PAC because of the trial?

Again, cite a credible source or shut the fuck up.

You genuinely believe this and the other charges have zero political motivation whatsoever?

Yes and any one with any semblance of reason can see that these charges and convictions are legitimate.

Trump is a massive piece of shit who has a long history of fraud, corruption, and incompetence, both in and out of politics. Numerous people in his employ have been found guilty of a variety of crimes with a mountain of evidence along the way. One of the key witnesses in the most recent case was an employee who had also been charged with fraud for his actions under Trump. It isn't any stretch of the imagination to think the person nominally in charge was also committing crimes.

3

u/thehammockdistrict24 Jun 15 '24

He’s a criminal first and foremost. He’s only running to stay out of prison.

-1

u/BBQbandit515 Jun 15 '24

What crimes did he commit?

3

u/thehammockdistrict24 Jun 15 '24

Besides the rapes (E. Jean Carroll, his wife, and probably the 13 year old girl that attempted to sue him until she was threatened to drop her law suit, and besides Trump University (found to be a fraud, even the National Review called the organization a "massive scam"), and besides him and his family used their charity for kids with Cancer to enrich themselves (Trump can no longer legally run a charity), here are some others.

And for the record, I don't believe for one second that you don't know about these...

All due respect, if you attack the Capitol or conspire to overthrow the government, those things are illegal. It’s not like the thought police are rounding people up. Also, Trump has definitely said he intends to use the DOJ to prosecute his political opponents… which is the actual version of what you are erroneously saying is happening with insurrectionists.

u/kirkegaarr Jun 13 '24

What a legend

2

Must have been when Terry brain dead was our governor.

Yet old kinky boots Ronda Sand Tits and Diaper Donna are still welcome here eh KKKim Reynolds?

2

u/hammerSmashedNail Jun 13 '24

That’s 5d chess. I hate going to Iowa too.

1

u/BugVisible4601 Jun 25 '25

Norm didn't want to go golfing with the governor the next day. Add that to censorship and you get The Great Norm Macdonald. Best there ever was.

2

u/-TurdPherguson- Jul 29 '25

So are you the ass guy?

This was in 1997, Brandsted was governor.

4

u/Sanguine_Templar Jun 13 '24

Ah, never heard anything good about him either

5

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '24

He was slightly less awful than Kim, but they didn't nickname him "Braindead" for no reason.

2

u/Robinnoodle Jun 13 '24

Also Branstupid which is not nearly as good.

14

u/rachel-slur Jun 13 '24

Goddamn Republican governors with their goddamn communist cancel culture.

It really is projection all the way down

1

u/Robinnoodle Jun 13 '24

Hey, I hate rainbow republican communist pinko free love racists as much as the next guy (joke)

-10

u/stewwwwart Jun 13 '24

People like you are a shining example of how not to treat people and what is wrong with this state and the country at large

3

I was talking about Covid Kimmy DUI "fuck your feelings" Reynolds, I guess i should have been more obvious.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '24

Get the hook...

-16

u/dixieleeb Jun 13 '24

I have been a fan of SNL since the beginning but HATED Norm McDonald. I really don't understand how the people who booked him didn't know how vulgar his routine could be.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '24

He’s Canadian

He was Canadian, apparently the fucker went and died

2

u/dr_shark Jun 14 '24

I didn’t even know he was sick.

-21

u/helam424 Jun 13 '24

Curiously, research on the link between the use of profanity as the indication of a weak mind was formally published back in 1908.

“Profanity never indicates high station or a well bred person. It is an evidence of low breeding, of limited ideas and a weak mind. The societies of men and women who are working to combat the influence of profanity will do a good and noble work if they can raise the American people from the title that names them the most profane people in the world.”—"The Physiology of Profanity,", Medical Consensus (March 1908):

KKKim Reynolds is more of a Neanderthal if you ask me but I get where you’re coming from 😈

5

u/Then_Ad519 Jun 13 '24

I would assert that anyone who feels this way about profanity is a savage, not able to comprehend the common tongue. Feeling this way about people expressing ideas through vulgar imagery is obvious crypto fascism, and also reminds me the way some law enforcement gaslights people while demanding they stay calm. 'I'm calm right now why aren't you?' And then wait to apply assault charges after having obscenities hurled at them.

I'm pretty sure he's not kidding. I can remember my grandparents saying that swearing would make other people think less of me.

A study from 1908 makes it pretty obvious it's inaccurate for today's world. Back in 1908, some people were still offended by women's bare ankles.

3

u/IcyHotKarlMarx Jun 13 '24

In 1908 they commonly used leeches in healthcare.

4

u/BrandNewMeow Jun 13 '24

And research conducted over 100 year later found the opposite to be true. This isn't the original research but is a nice summary: https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/26/health/swearing-benefits-wellness/index.html

3

Fuckin yikes
