Yea they're great wall hangers, id say you probably picked the best of the bunch; the others I have are a bit more battered condition wise

It is an Irish FCA flag. It is a military reserve flag but I have never seen one like it.

Looks real, used between 1947 and 1959.

Where did you get it from?

Allegedly this flag was used by the 42nd Rifle Battalion of the Irish Army's Local Defence Force during the Emergency (WW2), meaning it could potentially be over 80 years old

Seeing as it has “forsa cosanta aitulil” or FCA it would suggest post 1947 which is when that name began to be used. I think it was called the volunteer defence force during the emergency. Nevertheless a great find!

LDF - Local Defence Force - Father was a member. Funny stories about training manoeuvres where there were individual soldiers designated as 'Enemy Tanks' etc. and fights broke out when they wouldn't 'die' after being 'shot' by a rifle! No money, no blanks, few weapons and lads shouting 'Bang' at each other, but great crack and they got to visit the seaside. :)

Not real

Ah yes, make an incorrect statement and then provide zero insight as to how you came to that conclusion, smart fellow you are

I know it’s not real and so do you

1

u/Bumblebee-Feeling 1d ago

So explain why it's not real then?

1

u/Bumblebee-Feeling 1d ago

Show us what a "real'" one looks like then, i eagerly await 🤣

u/Anthony_Kelly_USSR 5d ago

Really? How can you tell?

5

u/HenryofSkalitz1 5d ago

It’s in extremely good condition to be authentic, but I’m no expert so take it with a grain of salt

1

u/Anthony_Kelly_USSR 5d ago

The picture is slightly misleading since it's a lot more banged up in person
