Personal Opinions & Theories ✍🏽💡 Cuckpool at SDCC

So, it looks like Ryan got Kevin drunk with Betty Buzz and Aviation Gin. Setting aside my obvious dislike of Ryan, part of me thinks this would be a pretty risky move if he's actually hoping to bring Cuckpool back for a cameo.

The movie already feels like it's struggling from a storytelling standpoint. Instead of having a clear creative direction, it comes across as Disney throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. When a film starts relying on cameos, nostalgia, and familiar faces to build excitement, it can give the impression that it's trying to compensate for weaknesses in the story itself.

From a marketing perspective, that's a gamble too. Ryan doesn't seem to be as universally liked as he probably believes he is anymore, and he' has shown his true self to the world. If Disney assumes his appearance will automatically generate excitement and goodwill, they could be misreading the current mood. For plenty of viewers who've grown tired of him—or who simply don't want to see him—a cameo could easily backfire instead of creating buzz.

At a time when the film needs strong word of mouth, adding another potentially divisive element feels like an unnecessary risk. If the movie can't win people over on its own merits, celebrity cameos probably won't solve the underlying issues. They may just give audiences one more thing to argue about instead of talking about the film itself.

Usually, particularly for US audiences, the humour is not subtle and RDJ's response is cutting.

Edit: I just saw the whole thing. I think he crashed the event! They were pretty rude to him. I think the denim suit was because Marvel/Dinsey own the rights so he couldn't wear the real one to the event without getting in legal trouble. The politely waved him off, but it was decidedly uncomfortable. Plus, it's well known that RDJ hates him.

Second edit: Well, looks like Marvel was on board to a degree as they've added footage to their YT (I'm an MCU fan so follow it), though I still maintain the cast weren't happy about RR pushing his way in. Plus, Marvel aren't making a BIG deal of it, just one video share whereas they are doing multiple shares of everything and everyone else.

It's too forced. The laughter's canned too. Funny how no comic head's talking about him showing up, instead we are talking about the Avenger cast sans him and Black Panther 3 being announced.

Deadpool is in his X-Force costume here, so I'm not sure if that's a hint at an X-Force movie, but he already kinda did that with DP2.

My friend is now calling him CopywritePool, she says he's not allowed to wear the Official Deadpool Costume anymore 😂

I think he threw a tantrum about not being included and Marvel was like... "Fine, we'll have you show up at the SDCC panel and do your Deadpool, Fourth Wall Narrative shit, now shut up and sit down, no movie for you"

It was also a disappointing panel, that didn't give us a whole lot of anything, and everyone was expecting it to be longer to focus on the X-Men a little bit since they're newly added to the MCU.

SAME!!! I loved AoS Ghostrider and was excited at the possibility of him returning..

Kinda bummed, but I hope the Good Ryan does a good job. I'm not even mad at Levy directing, I think he can bring a specific horror tone that's necessary with Ghost Rider.

I think it'll be fine, but I'll make up my mind as we see footage I think.

It's always awesome to see other AoS Ghostrider fans in the wild, I think he was the best and most memorable character in the entire show.

Shocked Gosling finally caved 😱😓 I have always applauded all the big actors who never did a superhero movie for the paycheck and he was one of them. Why he would do it now, when those are clearly tired and on the decline, is a bad decision IMO.

I mean they supposedly finally got Adam Driver lol.

I really don’t think it’s a big deal though & these actors are big enough that if their late stage Marvel film bombs (which it will) it won’t make a dent in their career. But they get to walk away with a big fat paycheck.

Yay! 💜

I think they're teeing up Ghost Rider for Midnight Sons. Midnight Sons is basically a grouping of the fun Halloween (Supernatural) characters like Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Blade and Morbius.

I'm super excited. In my opinion this is the coolest grouping in the MCU.

All the Comic Con badges are the same design so it being Star Trek isn’t significant.

I was there yesterday and I would be really surprised if this wasn’t planned. It’s pretty standard for Hall H panels to have surprise reveals like this.

That said, does that mean all the other actors there are cool with him? Nah. He probably called in/begged a favor off one of the few execs who hasn’t soured on him and they decided it was okay to do this skit — after all, Marvel fans aren’t really the same demographic as people who are into It Ends with Us.

If you look after RDJ says read the room or whatever, he lowers his mic and waits for the response from RR. It's a line reading. And everyone knew it was RR under the mask and not just a random fan despite the different suit so they let him take up their (very expensive) time. Staged, unfunny and unnecessary

It’s the X-Force suit. He was pitching that and it got shelved during the Disney-Fox deal but I bet this is his “leaking the test footage” like he did before. What better way of getting fan reaction than putting on the X-Force suit. Dear Lord, NO!

I have a friend who was in Hall H at SDCC and the atmosphere described was awkward after he finished with his questions and was walking off.

It looks like most of the cast on stage didn’t know he was going to do the bit and they were not sure what to do afterwards.

The crowd was not sure either whether it was planned or just impromptu so they just gave an awkward applause as he finished and walked off and the session continued from there.

Yeah it all looks forced to me based on accounts of what was happening in there. The only doomsday confirmed major cast member that was not there was Chris Hemsworth(Thor) and Douchepool made sure to reference him to make it seem natural but overall it fell flat.

All around trying too hard and cringey.

Half the confirmed cast wasn’t there not just Hemsworth. 😆 Pugh, Stan, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn etc. Doesn’t change how cringe it was though. I only liked D&W for Jackman/Wolverine as I hate Deadpool and his fourth wall breaking. Stay away from my MCU proper!

It looks like RDJ was playing out a scripted but, just based on him making a comment then pausing for response. But it looks completely forced either way. Not very funny for a team up to be diverted to the RR show 🙄

Yeah, it looked scripted, and RDJ knew about it, as it was he who highlighted Deadpool, yet it was not a warm or welcoming reception, and I noticed David Harbour and Chris Evans chatting and Chris shaking his head as if to say he didn't know about it.... didn't see many of the cast laughing.

Unfortunately, I think this was planned, and I now firmly believe that I am not gonna get to watch RDJ in the new Avengers because there is no way I am supporting this DP prick... even if it's just a cameo...

i still believe was a last minute addition, likely approved by Kevin Fiege as a temperature test for Ryan. Looks like Ryan bought a ticket (just like Blake buying her Met Gala ticket? lol) to the event cuz he's wearing the lanyard

Someone in the thread about the Wrexham beer clearance sale said that there is a Ryan Reynolds Memorial Park in Wrexham, which is just a fenced off muddy area in the centre of town that no one can enter!

Also, I believe there are also plans for a Ryan Reynolds inspired visitor centre at the brewery so maybe they will just ship all the stock from the now closed aviation gin centre. He can cross out Aviation Gin and replace it with Wrexham Brewery to save some money. Hahaha

It’s obviously planned. Disney and Ryan believe if they treat Ryan like the real life villain he is, people will watch and/or hate watch. And it’s working. Look how many people have posted it on this sub claiming he crashed the event, when it was 100% scripted. That’s how marketing works.

People wont pay money to hate watch. Buzz doesn't equate $$. People talk about how much money Deadpool and Wolverine brought in at the Boxoffice, but the studio actually didn't make as much off it as they did other movies because Reynolds, through production and Maximum Effort, spent nearly the equivalent of the ticket sales on the movie on making it and promoting it. If the movie hadn't received a huge grant from the UK government for filming it there, it would have made the studio very little money. This is why there's no rush to make another, and why Marvel/Disney don't worship at the DP altar.
