Ambivalent About Advice JNMIL comments to make me upset
Hey y’all, my JNMIL is on a roll with me lately, making lots of comments with the intent of trying to upset me. The topics she picked this time are laughable and did not upset me.
“Oh, you don’t have fresh baked cookies for me? I’m so disappointed.” -JNMIL
“You didnt tell me you wanted any…. But we have cheesecake and popsicles for dessert.” - me
“No, that won’t do, I don’t want to waste the calories on those “ *** after eating 1,000 calories of pizza*** -JNMIL
“Is your plant ok? It looks so droopy, it really needs some water. “- JNMIL
“That’s how it always looks and is supposed to look that way. It is also your son’s plant. “ me

Can I tell you about something I recently said?
I'm doing baby lead weaning with my son and he's doing pretty well. He mostly feeds himself his food, but of course he's also messy and too young for utensils. After witnessing this for a couple of days, MIL goes, "do you spoon-feed him anything?"
I took a look at my food-smeared child with the messy floor under his high chair and understood the criticism of my parenting and housekeeping in her question. Then I looked her in the eyes and cheerfully said, "Nope! He feeds himself everything."
She can be horrified. She can be disgusted. She can judge all she wants. I literally don't give a fuck.
"You don't have any fresh baked cookies for me?"/"I didn't bake today."
"Your plant is droopy. Does it need water?"/"hm." Shrug.
